After a massive earthquake hit the region with epicenter in Myanmar, the death toll continues to climb. As far away as Bangkok (600km from epicenter), rescue workers are still trying to find the victims of a downtown high-rise collapse. The devastation is widespread.
BANGKOK — Myanmar’s ruling military said Saturday on state television that the confirmed death toll from a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake rose to 1,644, as more bodies were pulled from the rubble of the scores of buildings that collapsed when it struck near the country’s second-largest city.
The new total is a sharp rise compared to the 1,002 total announced just hours earlier, underlining the difficulty of confirming casualties over a widespread region and the likelihood that the numbers will continue to grow from Friday’s quake. The number of injured increased to 3,408, while the missing figure rose to 139.
Rescue efforts are underway especially in the major stricken cities of Mandalay, the country’s No. 2 city, and Naypyitaw, the capital. But even though teams and equipment have been flown in from other nations, they are hindered by the airports in those cities being damaged and apparently unfit to land planes.
[…] The earthquake struck midday Friday with an epicenter not far from Mandalay, followed by several aftershocks, including one measuring 6.4. It sent buildings in many areas toppling to the ground, buckled roads, caused bridges to collapse and burst a dam.
[…] In neighboring Thailand, the quake rocked the greater Bangkok area, home to around 17 million people, and other parts of the country.
Bangkok city authorities said the number of confirmed dead was now 10, nine at the site of the collapsed high-rise under construction near the capital’s popular Chatuchak market, while 78 people were still unaccounted for. Rescue efforrs were continuing in the hope of finding additional survivors. (more)

How horrible…tragic.
😢….. 🙏🏻
—————
So 9/11 was really an earthquake? 😳
The building that fell was not completed, and many interiors walls were obviously not finished. Which probably lead to its collapse. Its structural integrity failed, because of this issue.
Good evening BoboftheNorth. How are you doing? Hadn’t seen many comments from you since mentioning you were going to the doctor a while back. I’ve been praying for you.
The first part of a building always constructed is the structure, the lateral force resisting system, shear walls and gravity load bearing systems.
Interior partitions and fascade are normally constructed later and have nothing to do with building strength.
Concrete gains strength throughout its life with 28 day strength typically 75% of ultimate strength. Still, I doubt this was the cause.
My guess, inadequate confinement reinforcing of columns and shear reinforcing beams. Typical. I expect others will perform detailed analysis to determine exact cause.
It was Chinese built, all tofu and dregs of it.
Lord have mercy!
Terrible terrible.
May the Lord have mercy on those poor souls.
That was hard to watch…So sad 😔 🙏
Heartbreaking 💔
🙏 🙏
…and may He be with all those effected and in need.
Amen
Looks very grim. May there be miracles for those desperately needing rescue and those trying to find them.
Does anyone know if there is yet technology that can locate people trapped alive in gaps under collapsed buildings?
That building that came down was still under construction and unoccupied except for 40-50 construction workers. It looks like it pancaked all the way down, so probably not many survivors regardless of any gaps. Not an engineer, but have to assume the unfinished nature of the building contributed to it coming down the way it it did.
Those scenes in the video are amazing considering the epicenter is reported to have been around 750 miles away in Myanmar.
Best to come down before it was occupied. Unless the outside barrier was to have bracing of some kind.
Correct.
some news regarding situations in Myanmar andThailand. And from Singapore (from those who have families in Myanmar and Thailand)

There are no words to adequately describe the power of the earth.. we are but mere fleas in comparison.
I watch this video and think of all the brain dead Democrats that think that we can fight ‘climate change’ with their windmills and solar panels..
I see the amount of energy that just took down that tall building and wonder why they even bother thinking we could somehow change all that by driving electric cars– it’s hard to believe that they could be serious about such a ridiculous idea.
There are not enough windmills and solar panels to ‘change’ our weather. Our destiny is dust to dust and mortal man cannot change that….
“change’ our weather”
Some people want to play God, so they are fooling with it. There are patents to prove it. “Cloud seeding” & other things have been done for decades.

Government uses contractors whose employees are bound by iron clad non disclosure agreements, which is how they have been able to conduct this clandestine activity for so long.
Please don’t post that jackass here. He has a standing invitation to sue me. I wish he would. He wont.
They are up there in our skies every single day — bright sunny days are marred by the airplanes spreading lines such as those in the photos above. It feels like we are under attack.
Where are you?
We do not get a lot of that here in the Buffalo, NY region

surf’s up in the rooftop infinity pool

ah – I see there’s one in the posted X video as well?
anyone know if the building that came down had one? (a rooftop pool)
I see water sloshing in the video, is that the building that came down?
sloshing water could be a type of resistive momentum that’s not planned for in standard engineering design for the structure, it oscillates from a resistive to an amplifying momentum with respect to the rest of the structure’s momentum at any given instant
I can see how that would lead to shear forces that could initiate structural failure
but if those are 2 different buildings / incidents, then nevermind
for any fans of that Hangover series of films, there was a rooftop pool scene in the one filmed in Bankok (II?)
wonder if it was the one we’re seeing in these clips
Rooftop swimming pools can help reduce swaying in tall buildings, especially during earthquakes or strong winds.
thx, Ring
Where do you get that?
President Trump is our champion for several reasons, and his reaction to the empathy that he has demonstrated to PEOPLE HE DOES NOT EVEN KNOW AND ARE NOT CITIZENS PERPLEXES THE CORRUPTORS.
notice this. pay special attention to it.
down in your guts, there is nothing more painful than to watch people suffer pain and affection.
Donald TRUMP, a MAN who is more than just an American Patriot LOVES PEOPLE. notice this. let it becomes a reassurance to your own personal faith. Do your best. Bring up people who are hurting. Do the right thing. DO not harm.
notice the absolute silence of the demented corruptors, captures by their own vile evil self enriching suffering.
let them suffer. Godless people can do not good. avoid them, never allow them power. If they try, remove them from power.
boasTURDD, roberts, just a recent example…black robes who give two shits about the lives of innocent victims, preferring HOWEVER to advocate on behalf of HYPER VIOLENT CARTEL FUNDED TERRORIST.
pay attention to the differences.
Be good to each other is my prayer. I am proud to say I am an American that voted for and continues to support MAGA. we are more than just the racist, misogynistic white supremacists priviledges deplorables. they got it wrong.
WE ARE PROVING THEM WRONG EACH AND EVERY SINGLE DAY!
God Bless America
there is nothing more painful than to watch people suffer pain and affection
maybe autocorrect changed from “pain and affliction”?
Autocorrupted
me englash is akful
Auto Smell Stinks!
Thinking of what it would be like in Los Angeles and So and No Ca – skyscrapers everywhere – old and new – packed with residents and building tht will crumble good help us ! God Bless the people suffering in this earthquake – unimaginable
being that California was a leading locale for earthquake-resistant engineering and construction, I’d suspect California high-rises are pretty safe
We should offer aid.
we haven’t yet identified the CIA objectives that would accompany it
We may not have.
They generally seem to have mapped out advantages before every disaster we see.
There have been reports (which WERE considered newsworthy) that Myanmar has indicated they would appreciate international assistance, which is a change of pace for them. Some years ago, when there were disasters in that nation, international aid was flatly refused.
Buildings can be designed to withstand earthquakes. See the International Building Code, adopted throughout the U. S. But not used in third world countries.
Earthquake resistant design requires detailed engineering design and careful construction, with attention to details, not done in third world countries.
Watched buildings go up in Saudi Arabia.
It’s a wonder they resisted gravity at all.
totally correct. even shockingly correct.
I remember experiencing the San Fernando Valley, CA earthquake in 1971. I will never forget being thrown from the headboard to the foot of the bed. It was a 6.6 magnitude quake and that was bad enough. Since our house was 2 stories tall it had some structural damage. I remember a bunch of us sleeping on the floor of the neighbor down the street for a few nights after that in case of aftershocks. There were many. My brothers slept in cars parked on the street.
The helplessness is the worst part. These poor, poor people of Myanmar. Perhaps we can take the money that has been allocated to transgender puppet shows and transgender farming and use it to send aid to people who really need it.
“Perhaps we can take the money that has been allocated to transgender puppet shows and transgender farming and use it to send aid to people who really need it”
Saved in a file I keep for particularly lucid quotes
I will never forget being thrown from the headboard to the foot of the bed
were you thrown in the air, or was it a simple sliding motion down to the foot?
if they pinpointed the epicenter of the quake on the news later, can you say whether your bed was perpendicular to a line from your house to the epicenter or in line with it lengthwise (head to foot) ?
was getting thrown the very first motion of the quake? or did you feel any slighter shake before getting thrown?
trying to guess which type of earthquake wave threw you, there are 3 main types
As I remember the motion jerked us back and forth (head hit head board and then body slid down until knees were over the foot of the bed). The aftershocks were mostly rolling types and less violent than the earthquake.
The epicenter was near the Magic Mountain amusement park. We lived maybe 3 miles away and east of the epicenter. The head of my bed was pointed towards the epicenter. Back then, where I lived was semi rural so they said it was near Sylmar or San Fernando so that the rest of the country would have an idea of where it was located.
There was no build up to the quake. It was immediate being tossed around like a ragdoll.
I hope that helps.
I remember that a crack formed that went all of the way across our cul-de-sac. It is still there today.
Oh, yes, it jerked back and forth, violently. The epicenter was Sylmar (or maybe not) – north side of the San Fernando Valley. We were living in Van Nuys at the time.
I can still “see” what it looked like as my husband and I “stood” in the hallway that ran to our preschool sons’ bedroom . We saw the diagonal angles of the walls and doorways (which, of course, are supposed to be vertical, not diagonal) violently and repeatedly changing perspective – at first being aimed at the upper left corner of the hallway–and then aimed at the upper right corner.
Absolutely jolting in every possible way. Nasty business.
–on another thought, I have no impression that the builders of Myanmar (formerly Burma, and presently involved in a civil war) have high priorities with regard to earthquake resistant contruction. That’s a couple of centuries in the future for them.
The head of my bed was pointed towards the epicenter
That and the strictly sliding aspect suggest strong P-waves (direct pressure waves)
They cause back-and-forth sliding motion oriented towards the epicenter and arrive quickest (“first arrivals”)
Secondary waves are named S-waves and they would have caused side-to-side sliding across your bed, still in a horizontal plane, if your bed was pointed to the epicenter
Last to arrive are Surface waves, these oscillate in a vertical plane and can be observed as the landscape visually undulating like ocean waves … these have the potential to toss you vertically if strong enough
Seismic wave – Wikipedia
the last kind also have the motion you see when burly bodybuilders are in the gym and holding these big ropes and waving the ends up and down and the ropes show wave trains like big snakes
“On February 9, 1971 at 6:01 am PST, a devastating M6.6 earthquake struck the densely populated metropolitan area of Los Angeles, leaving death and destruction in its wake. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the vicinity of Magic Mountain, about six miles northeast of Sylmar, at a depth of about seven miles. The shock was felt for 300 miles along the southern California coastal region and as far inland as Las Vegas, Nevada. The greatest damage was in the San Fernando area northwest of Los Angeles. The earthquake resulted in 65 deaths and more than 2,000 people injured. Property damage losses totaled more than half a billion dollars.”
this was written in 1969 so it would have been about an earlier quake, I think the songwriters lived in “the Valley”
This old earthquake’s gonna leave me in the poorhouse
It seems like this whole town’s insane
On the thirty-first floor a gold-plated door
Won’t keep out the Lord’s burning rain
“Sin City”, Flying Burrito Brothers, 1969
Awful. May the dead rest in peace, and the injured heal.
I pray for the people and their pets. I don’t know how they can live in cubicles. May God bless them.
A lot of those pictures seem to show a lack of reinforcing. If the concrete is not tied together. Failure is guaranteed.
Cutting corners seems to be a repeating occurrence. It doesn’t matter the race, the country, nor the money.
I’ve read else where that this building was being built by a consortium lead by a Chinese company.
I pray for the victims.
May God have mercy on them.
Amen.
Prayers for all 🙏🏻🙏🏻
How soon before someone or some group blames this on Trump.
Climate change, or something…
Sky News already did…

Ask Sky News where the UK is. Where is Australia? Perhaps other countries need to do more. We are near bankruptcy here. I know they want to destroy our country, but while we are attempting to reverse that, perhaps they could do more than b*tch about the end of “USAID” — which is spelled SeeAyeA!
🥰 they are on the way . . .

Israel will send a delegation of experts to Thailand to assist in search and rescue efforts following a major earthquake in the region.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the move, in coordination with the Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry, a statement says.
The team, led by Col. (res.) Yossi Pinto, the commander of the IDF’s reserve national search-and-rescue unit, will include another 21 members.
They are set to depart on an El Al flight tonight at 10:30 p.m. [Israel time]
The statement says the delegation will assist with “building an intelligence picture” for search and rescue and engineering efforts at sites of destruction, and work to rescue those trapped.

A team from Israel arrived at the site of the earthquake disaster in Thailand with equipment that can ‘see through walls’ to locate survivors.
Xaver systems operate using UWB radio wave technology, enabling the precise detection and location of living objects beneath rubble, even in complex environments and without line of sight.

Psalm 6 -2,3,4
2 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. 3 My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long? 4 Turn, Lord, and deliver me; save me
The 1996 earthquake in So. Calif was the scariest of all the ones I’ve experienced. This one was unnerving because it was uplifting and not the usual swaying back and forth type. It registered 5.3. so I only imagine how bad a 7.7 can be. 🙏🏼
Please be assured I don’t mean this as insensitive.
But this is exactly what happens when you leave things to third world engineering. It is known here that I am an engineer not practicing in the field now, and I don’t do structural work. Given that disclaimer, I expect that the building had the all structural reinforcements installed as the sections were erected. The remaining features were likely just curtain walls.
Can’t imagine the horror of the families near the roof top pool. At least that building was correct enough.
Talking to you Chrysler, Boeing, and several others I could, should, name….
The practice of outsourcing US engineering projects to third world sources is nearing epidemic levels, including H1Bs.
My son is a barely 30 year old Director of Engineering for a company building valves for nuclear facilities world wide. He finds it hard enough to find good engineers, and good engineering, in the US. He’s not too concerned about Asia surpassing us, should we get our act straight.
Just one more thing, don’t ever buy a condo in a high rise precast building even in the US, particularly near salt water.
We were in Bangkok in the middle of February of this year, right near the marketplace where the destruction took place. You see the buildings collapse, I see my memories of the people we saw face to face there.
This horrible disaster is what USAID is supposed to deal with not transgender mice experiments!
I’ve been laughing at all the “scientists conduct research on trans animals” news stories
… asking:
“How do they know the animals are trans? Do they wear that garish light-blue eyeshadow and run around in little Freddy Mercury mustaches?”
Turns out – the scientists CREATE them !
By castrating males and giving the female mice little mousey hysterectomies!
And then overloading them with opposite-sex hormones (estrogen, testosterone)
Then they overdosed the little “trans” mousies with date-rape drug GHB, ostensibly to study how trans boys and girls will react to getting their drinks spiked out at the nightclubs.
To quote Angry White Dude: “I crap you negative”
