Something that this chat does confirm that Americans won’t like, is that, at the highest level of the US govt, it has just been confirmed that destroying an entire building in order to get one person in it who is a designated target, is official US policy.
This means therefore that if say Iran ever has a need to get a target in say, Tel Aviv, then according to this series of chat messages, it’s OK for Iran to destroy an entire say, apartment building, in order to get them. And whoever else is in that building at the time, doesn’t matter. Per official US policy, as confirmed at the highest level, by every single official listed in that chat group, including the VP.
And that can be taken to the bank at the UN Security Council, and tabled, as evidence of being official US policy, if the US happens to be bringing a resolution to said council, condemning Iran for destroying a domestic residential building in Tel Aviv, and killing X number of innocent civilians, including X numbers of women, and X numbers of children.
Iran, if it wants to, can give the fingers to the US, if it attempts to do that in the UNSC, at any time in the future.
Iran of course, would not do that, because unlike the US or Israel, who have both done exactly that hundreds if not thousands of times in the past, unlike Israel and the US, Iran has ethics and is a civilised society. I think people are missing the obvious. This was Jeffrey Goldberg’s treachery as much as a grand mistake. However, any patriot – in the same circumstances, would inform the sender that he was erroneously included in the email chain when knowledge of its subject matter became apparent. A patriot would ask to be removed or ignore it given the gravity of the subject matter and potential adverse effects for our national security and the confidence of our allies. Instead, Goldberg, the self-aggrandizing self-serving a$$ published the contents of the exchange to the world at great length with great detail and potential damage. I hope that at least some subscribers to The Atlantic care about their country – above their party, and will recognize this.
