I’m wondering if DOGE is considered essential or non-essential, in case Schumer succeeds in shutting down the government?
They’re unpaid so I don’t think it matters.
If I were heading DOGE I’d publically announce we’d use any shutdown to go into every nonessential government offices to go through its records and spending without obstruction.

I do not believe the DOGE employees are unpaid. There has been ~$40 million, by one report, allocated to it from federal funds and several of the employee salaries are public. Musk is advisory – so he is unpaid.
Theres a lot of confusion as to what DOGE is.
My understanding is EVERY dept. of the Fed. Gov. has a 4 person DOGE team, made up of an IT ‘whiz kid” an administrator, and can’t recall what the two others are…
and these teams were put in place soon after the election, I think.
Ironically, and yet factually, which causes more irony, Schumer and most of Congress are non-essential!
And that is true, since most are loyal to their bank accounts, rather than to Freedom and the persistence of Freedom in The United States of America.
Maybe PT should force a recess during the shut down and get some more winning done.

Last week, Bill Murray was on the Joe Rogan Experience. Their conversation eventually wended to Murray’s departed friend and Saturday Night Live co-star John Belushi. Murray discussed Bob Woodward’s book about Belushi — Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi — and said it was a tsunami of fabrications. Murray even posited that since Bob Woodward’s journalism played an integral role in the demise of the Richard Nixon administration, it’s entirely possible that unseen forces were at work to depose Nixon.
I wrote a book about Watergate — The Truth About Watergate: A Tale of Extraordinary Lies and Liars — in which I demonstrate that the Tom Brady of journalism, Bob Woodward, is an unabashed liar and ethical eunuch. If he were Pinocchio, his nose would have a length that rivaled the elevation of the Chrysler Building.
It is clearly documented that the mostly CIA Watergate burglars did super stupid things to intentionally get caught.
The first time they tried to get caught it failed because the security guard they CHECKED IN WITH at the front desk, five guys in suits signing in at midnight to go to the Federal Reserve office on the eighth floor when the DNC was on the sixth floor “had the IQ of a like an avocado, 15 or 16 working neurons.”
That didn’t work, so burglar McCord made sure they were caught the 2nd time because he had one of his confederates call the DC police.

Nixon says he just wanted to strengthen the CIA by getting rid of some of the deadwood, 1/3 of the CIA manning and they KNEW he planned that, but instead, he says “Unfortunately, it (the CIA) was castrated in the post-Watergate era.”

Richard Nixon did an extremely long and detailed series of interviews in 1983 with his former aide Frank Gannon, who also became a TV producer. All, or most, appear to be on YouTube — they’re fascinating.

President Trump believes in “regular order” when dealing with the legislative and judicial branches of the federal government ……. that would be “Constitutional Regular Order.”
President Trump’s oath of office demands he “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Somebody’s not Trusting The Plan, I see…
Same goes for my homeowners and auto insurance and property taxes!!!! The valuation on my Texas house keeps going up in double digits each year and the resulting double digit increase in property taxes are about to push me out!!! Am I going to end up in a double wide or a single wide is the question??? Something has to be done about property taxes in Texas!!!

Yes, the people can look at the budget, but we’ve all seen by now that a budget doesn’t tell the whole story.
Here in PA my county they raised the property taxes 20% across the board. Home insurance went up over $900 and car insurance on 2 really old cars went up $120.

Property taxes are levied by local governments, so yes.
I live in a city so I get taxed by the city and the school district. The county gets a share of the sales tax and so does the state.
It varies how different municipalities handle taxes.

We searched and found a well known insurer who has saved us approximately $4,000/year. We had to jump through a few hoops but dang!!
Fortunately for us, also in Texas, our property rates are frozen as we are seniors. And the reductions passed by the Texas House in election year helped, or we’d be forced to move. Tarrant County appraisers are the source of monstrous increases in our area. The whole system is run by corrupt money grabbers. Do we own our home, we are often asked on certain documents?
No mortgage, but the honest answer would be ” No, we rent it from the state.”

Consider his point above about Canada’s anti-farmer tariffs, which he claims rise to 250% to 390% of various US dairy products.
Well, no, in 2024 Canada did not collect one single Canadian dollar or US dollar or even plug nickel of tariff revenue from US dairy exporters of the four leading dairy export products—fluid milk, butter, cheese and skim milk powder. That’s right, the tariff on US dairy exports of these four products was zero, nichts, nada and nothing, respectively.
And the reason for that lies in the so-called TRQs (tariff rate quota) that the Donald himself negotiated with the Canadians in the course of attaining his ballyhooed USMCA deal in 2020.
These TRQ arrangements, of course, are Rube Goldberg devices of the kind that anti-free market government bureaucrats love to tinker with, and the Donald’s were no exception. So what they negotiated was a “tariff free” amount of US dairy exports up to a specified quota level, after which the huge Canadian dairy tariffs the Donald referenced in his rant would become effective.
These TRQs, in turn, were to be phased in over six year—so as of 2024 we were almost there. Yet on the four leading dairy products listed in the table below, US exports did not reach the quota level in any of them. Therefore, no tariff was applied to nearly 71 million pounds of US dairy exports to Canada, meaning that the Donald was ranting this morning about a problem he had already fixed!
For instance, consider the largest category, which is fluid milk right off the cows’ teats: The Trump quota was 91.9 million pounds but US exports in 2024 amounted to only 34.7 million pounds or 37.7% of the allowable amount that can come in tariff-free. And in the case of cheese, the ratio was much closer at 95.6%, but still no tariff cigar; and so on for butter and skim milk powder, as well.
In all, the Donald’s own quota amounted to 136.9 pounds in 2024, but US exports only reached 70.5 million pounds or half of the quota on these four products. So the remaining headroom under the quota for Wisconsin or New York state dairy farmer supporters, as the case may be, is considerable.
And yet, this isn’t even the half of it. As it happens, the average value of these US dairy exports in 2024 ranged between $0.50 per pound for fluid milk, to $1.20/lbs for SMP, $2.00/lbs for cheese and $2.50/lbs. for butter. The long and short of the math, therefore, is that America’s tariff-free dairy exports to Canada in these four categories amounted to $83.7 million in 2024, which, in the scheme of things, is not even a fly on old Bessy’s ass.
As it happens, during 2024 total US goods exports to Canada totaled $349 billion and goods imports from Canada were $413 billion, leaving a merchandise trade deficit of $63 billion. So the dairy piece of the picture is a mere pimple. The export figure for the four products analyzed above amounted to just 0.02% of total US exports to Canada.

What you and Stockman are both ignoring is the cumulative trade deficit that has occurred with Canada year after year after year.
If you look at only goods traded over the last three years the deficit number is $205 billion.
Forget about the milk battle. Think about how you make up for that deficit trend , then call me back.

That means by allowing trade deficits, the US missed out by choosing one option over another. They obviously made the wrong choice. So, the US will never recoup that cash.
