We need a decent U.S. highway and railroad to Alaska.
The construction season in the further north geographical areas have a duration of about 2 months – and that is pushing it (due to permafrost in the ground etc.)
Keeping up with maintenance of existing facilities is a challenge too.

The daylight is about 22 hours long in July (nice advantage) and the high temperatures are moderate.
Yet, there are still the low temperatures.
The nighttime darkness is about 22 hours long, in January.
All of that does seem to help to sustain the natural environment – and reduce crowding.

You could cheaply and easily run wiring for 12 volt, only, through your garage and or house to various light fixtures running 12 volt bulbs. A small homemade windmill turning a car alternator or generator would charge 12 volt deep cycle lead acid batteries. This would be an el cheapo system without need for any government assistance. You can buy 12 volt adapters and charge your laptop and cell phones. I would screen in the windmill blades to protect bats and birds.
Virginia offgrid tiny-house minimum is a 2200W diesel generator charging 8x DC31 batteries.
Solar equivalent would need 1000sqft (33x 4ftx8ft panels) and maybe 30x batteries for summer, double in winter.
Nothing compares to diesel for heat in the winter, but 50% waste heat can be harvested from the generator.
