I’m watching earlier CPAC speakers and just finished watching Harriet Hageman. She’s not just not Liz Cheney, she’s great. Her speech was awesome and I encourage everyone to spend a few minutes listening to it. Here’s just one excerpt (if there are any errors in my transcription they should be very minor):
We are not just dealing with stupid comic books and radical anti-American leftist policies, we are also dealing with an obsession that has become so all-consuming to those on the other side that the toll of human suffering and property destruction cannot be ignored. As a devastating example, let’s look at the recent California wildfires. The cause and magnitude of those fires cannot be written off as an act of nature, because that is not what happened. Rather, a substantial number of fires in California are started by arsonists and homeless encampments, and that appears to be the case in terms of this recent conflagration.
Even setting aside the cause of the fires however, this catastrophe was years in the making with resource management, over-regulation, and failed water policies all finding their roots in a fixation on climate change and global warming. Ah yes, with Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass deciding that the threat of a one to two degree change in temperatures 100 years from now warrants whatever suffering may come about today.
Let’s start with the radical environmentalists’ decisions for the last several decades to fight every effort to undertake proper, effective, and safe forest and range management practices and to implement better fire-protection policies. In fact, one such organization fought to block a wildfire prevention project near the Pacific Palisades to protect a shrub called the Braunton’s milkvetch. We can thank this group for their efforts to protect this shrub, although such protections were clearly only transitory since they also burned in the November fires.
That last statement should not be ignored. The dipstick environmentalists lost their beloved milkvetch BECAUSE THE SHRUBS BURNED IN THE FIRES. Stupidity is profound in that bunch.

Man setting a time keeping device to any setting he chooses hasn’t a thing to do with natural time. The amount of actual daylight doesn’t change one iota and if moving the clock one hour enables children to stand at a bus stop in daylight rather than darkness, isn’t that enough reason?
I personally don’t care one way or the other. I’m a night/stormy weather type . The kids at school bus stops was the only reason I ever heard that made any sense.

The switch to daylight savings time is highly anticipated in my home. It is celebrated in fact.

So this could be fun, living life naturally and taking advantage of the seasons. We have all these remote people working without cubicles, let’s leverage it.
Today it’s mostly “Your work shift begins at 8a, and ends at 5p, and we will change the clock occasionally so that you can mostly be blinded by low sunlight every time you drive” and an increasing number of managers who never learned to manage other than by seat time want more seat time.
How about “you have X deliverables which are reasonably achievable within an 8 hour work day. We don’t care when you get them done. However since sometimes people need to confer you will be online or in an office between 9a and 4p (or whatever) in the timezone of your core work site. If you don’t get that work done, good bye. If you get more done well, you will be rewarded. It’s my job to make the carrot for doing better worth your trouble, not your job to outdo each other hoping there’s a carrot out there somewhere.”

No matter what time you set the clock to, there are still the same number of hours of daylight for a particular day of the year.

Daylight savings time was great back when the farmers needed the extra sunlight to bring in the crops, but it’s anachronism now.

Been around farmers, ranchers, hunters and fishermen for most of my life.
I don’t know of any successful farmer/rancher/hunter/fisherman that isn’t up and going most of the time before sunrise, and then keep after it until well after the sun goes down.
There’s enough light to work outside for about 45 minutes before sunrise, and equally as much on the other side.
Allegedly it was about kids in school and getting them to and fro in some semblance of order to allow for their share of the chores rather than telling the adults what to do. That obviously changed, if not by intent than by error.
Doesn’t AZ not follow this? Ask the residents there if it’s just fine to let the clock stay the same all year long.

I’m all in favor of the entire country moving to UTC, or Coordinated Universal Time, throughout the year . One time for everyone. Tell your sleepy kids that they don’t have to get up until 11:30 and I’m sure they will squeal with delight….(until they realize that the sun is just coming up at that hour.)

I know what you mean. I live in extreme northern Harford County, just a stones throw from southern York County, PA. It’s Trump Country up here. Mostly farms, some Amish, but much different than further south.
I’m in what used to be in the solid red 6th District here, from Carroll all the way out to Garrett County, including northern Harford Cnty and northern Baltimore Cnty when I moved here nearly 30 years ago.
But in 2012 the crooks in Annapolis gerrymandered the crap out of the 6th (too much conservative Republican representation I guess) and my area went into a blue district.
DemoRats – can’t live with them and could certainly live far better without them.
Between the 1st and 6th Distrcts, Maryland Republicans at least had some voice in government. That ended in 2012.

The men successfully changed voter registration information for about three dozen people in Delaware County and used it to cast fraudulent ballots for Hasan, the indictment alleges. But it wasn’t enough — Hasan lost the election to another Democrat, Mahabubul Tayub, by 27 votes, according to Delaware County election results.

My favorite was the little glow-in-the-dark holy-water bottle … you’d place it on your nightstand under the lamp and when you turned the lights out, it’d glow in the dark.
Again, I recognized the holiness and sacred aspects of the items, but a big part of me was simply enamored by the trinketry of it all

It is and has been since they started it, utter insanity.
Then again, it isn’t much different than many “practitioners” due with adults – “here, take this pill. It will suppress the symptoms” – be it sadness, or pain, or anger, or illness. Whatever you do, don’t address the root cause(s) and never, ever – no matter what else you do – actually provide a cure.

I had to send spreadsheets detailing my daily work in the private sector. My keystrokes and time online were monitored as well as my phone calls. I had productivity metrics. I could be fired without cause. This has nothing to do with ‘scolding’ , the reality is taxpayers should not pay workers who are protected from being fired or held to performance standards.
Federal Workers are in large part not being paid commensurate with any value they provide to society or the economy. Unelected bureaucrats who believe that they know what’s best for you and tell you how to live your life while exempting themselves and enriching their families. THAT is communism.
I was a CA state employee for 25 years. As an DDS, I had to give a weekly account of what I produced during that time period. A condition of employment.

Productivity reports are pretty normal in the private sector. It’s not “communism.” It’s accountability/earning your paycheck.
In the 80’s I was part of a group creating software for gathering geological data for the DOE. We had weekly status meetings where we were required to bring a written copy of what we’d done for the week as well as going over them in the meeting. If you screwed off we all knew it.
It’s the employer holding the employee accountable for their actions. And it’s probably a quick head count too. Recall all those Social Security claimants over the age of the oldest human ever recorded? What are the chances there’s a few phantom federal employees out there? Grandpa died 15 years ago, but the government still sends him his paycheck…….
I’ll be another scold. My whole working life I was required to turn in a written progress / status report every week.
There are some jobs where it doesn’t make much sense to do that — for example waiting tables or manning a cash register. Management has other ways of assessing quality and productivity in those situations.
But it’s pretty much universal for people doing project work to write weekly reports.

There is something that doesn’t make sense to me.
