The fox squirrels that visit my feeders are putting it away, but they sure don’t look like that.

We have rock squirrels here – they are very destructive of automobile wiring and insulation etc, but don’t live in the trees and don’t bother the bird feeders.
They do burrow underground and can be a hazard for our burros.
It’s mice and chipmonks that are destructive around here. The Fox squirrels and red squirrels/Pinies are not destructive.
This looks like the chipmunks at the bottom of Pikes Peak. 🙂

We have cute little chipmunks, but it’s the rock squirrels that dig deep holes and tunnel systems- equids can step in them and break a leg! Life threatening. 😟
We’ve managed to trap dozens of them and relocate to a river/ dry wash a few miles away. Fortunately, they didn’t return.

Trying to avoid becoming hysterical about the potential for historical cold weather plunging through the Plains next week, but every model update just gets worse.
You do know it’s Winter?
Tell that to NOAA, the IPCC, and all those that create and make these weather models which consistently don’t show the cold coming until it becomes so obvious that they can’t avoid it. Joe Bastardi, using the old tried and true forecasting techniques, was telling people this was coming two weeks ago. There are people here that appreciate a heads up that they aren’t getting from other sources and when it comes I feel free to show that what he was saying and I was passing along from previous posts was correct.

Just to make sure you understand the map. Those are temperature anomalies or IOW the amount below the average for time for a particular area. They are NOT the actual temperatures. So for example, if you live in the area of the panhandle of Texas the model shows the temperature will be 35 deg F below the average for that time.
Thanks for the explanation. I do have a weather station so I keep an eye on the barometer. My AccuWeather app helps but the station that reports the forecast is 30 miles away and not very accurate for my location. I just try to combine all the data I have and make educated guesses.
Our little businesses are affected by weather. I appreciate the heads up.
I like seeing around corners as much as possible for planning and control purposes.

The pitfall on the open thread or presidential is when folks start feeling that they or their “group” own the thread or even the forum.
We’re all just single shareholders in a great forum with an outstanding and very tolerant host and administrators.
Each and every comment by anyone who chooses to post a comment should be judged on content alone and not who posted it.
That said some of us have long memories and have formed a picture of some of our posters character and place greater weight on some comments than others. Still it’s content and logic that matter.
Lastly it is extremely easy for miscommunication to occur.

BTW the ICON model updates 4x a day and some others every couple hours. Further there can be a considerable difference between a single control model run and the ensemble. And finally, the models images I shared today along with his comments are from Dr. Ryan Maue who has a pHd in Meteorology.
The cold I can deal with, it’s icy/snowy highways and streets that freak me out.
Are you a southern gal? Fact is, as many road miles as I have behind me driving in such conditions down south is a far more hazardous adventure than doing so up north in general. Now I say “in general” because up north here it can be almost as hazardous when it is the first time there have been slick road conditions in the winter that the road crews can’t keep up with.
That first time up north it is like the more hard headed have to learn all over again how to drive in such conditions.
