You can’t pack it or form it to make a shelter in it and if your out in a blizzard of this kind of powder snow it will find the tiniest chink in your cold weather outer layer to penetrate. Normal cross country snow skies are not worth a damn in it. You need very long and wide skies and even moving in those any way but downhill is hard work in that kind of snow .
Although down hill skiing off pista (Off of a groomed slope) in such snow is a blast, it has it’s dangers. Stumps, rocks and even downed trees are hidden dangers you may find the hard way. But the most dangerous are crevasses in rock or ice that have been bridged and thus covered by the snow.
And only the largest type of snowshoes are worth wearing in it. And of course in a blizzard the wind pushes that very fine snow easily and so that kind of snow results in the worst white out conditions possible.
Thankfully it looks like they did not really have blizzard conditions. Just a lot of snow with relatively little wind. Those that got it will never forget it.

I live on the western Mojave’s edge. We often see cars looking like that after a heavy snow when people come down off the mountain. Admittedly the snow won’t be that thick. Sometimes we’ll see someone who’s filled the bed of their truck with snow for fun. Years ago I lived in the desert and worked up in a local mountain tourist town. Occasionally I had to drive in a blizzard. Once I drove all the way to my house in Apple Valley and my yard was under a foot of snow.
Don’t even get me started on the Cajon Pass.

Friends, have you ever been through a ZBB process? If not, let me give you my take. So, in a corporation where expenses are out of control, you have to put the entire company through a zero based budgeting process. It is one of the most painful things that people in a company experience.
You basically have to justify every. single. expense. And you also cut a bunch, and then only add back after you’ve gone through a proper ZBB cycle.
The US government is going through a ZBB right now. And that is necessary because spending is out of control. The complexity is so vast that I expect it will take AI to decipher.
You cannot tell me that a government that accidentally wires hundreds of millions of dollars to the Taliban has its finances in order. That signals an underlying disaster. That signals bad stewardship of resources.
In fact, it is a disaster. Over the last 20 fiscal years, the US government has made ~$2.7 trillion in “improper payments,” according to the US Government Accountability Office. Trillion! With a T! That financial management disaster was not caused by @elonmusk. And there is no painless way to clean it up.
Elon is doing what any executive would do walking into a giant mess. You ZBB and then build back.
So, I don’t believe that America is going to be on the wrong side of global right and wrong, as some are saying. I don’t believe that America is going to be permanently isolationist. I do believe that unwatched finances will get out of control in any human system, and that the GAO has been trying to ring this bell for years, and that scaled complexity requires scaled financial management.
Because the US has the largest budget in the world, it will now go through the single most complex ZBB ever undertaken in the history of the world.
Some states do ZBB, but it’s never been done at the federal level. President Jimmy Carter tried, but the bureaucratic systems were too complex, and President Ronald Reagan abandoned the attempt.
So, if there is one person in the world chosen to lead this Grand Canyon of projects, we would hope for the president to choose one of the best capital allocators on the planet. Better if that human is also one who can leverage AI and technical talent to manage the massive complexity.
Anyone who has lived through a ZBB at the corporate level will tell you that it’s hell and everyone hates it. This is why I feel really bad for federal workers — I have a lot of empathy for civil servants and people doing a great job every day for the United States. No doubt, the uncertainty is trying and stressful for many. It’s an unfortunate situation.
So, that’s my take. I don’t want to speak beyond what I know and can observe from the other side of the country. I’ve worked both in the private sector and the public sector — the cultures are different. And an Elon-Musk-style culture is going to be the most hard core of them all. No doubt, it’s jarring. It’s gonna be a lot.
But what I also know is that every time I have ever doubted Elon, I ended up being the one who was wrong.”
Congress has been derelict in its one real duty – passing a budget. As we are reminded, no real budget has been passed since 2008, everything since then has been a series of continuing resolutions.
Perhaps when DOGE finishes its work this spring, Congress will be forced to return to doing their duty instead of all these emotional theatrics we have been subjected to since the politicians realized they can get more votes by televised crying than by actual doing.

-The meeting between Trump and Bibi was nothing short of astounding!
The Israeli right can’t believe it, some say it’s an answer to prayers.
A. Trump said that he wants to “relocate the Gazans out of the demolition zone”.
Turn it into “a Riviera” (beach resort) and a thriving place. The US will take over.
The rich Arab nations will pay. 1.8 millions relocated into Egypt, Jordan and other locations, wherever possible. Basically eventually there will be various people living there including Palestinians after it’s flattened and renovated.
The left and radical Arabs are in shock!
B. About Iran he wants to use economic pressure and diplomacy to stop the nuclear program if possible. Basically he said a strong “no” to the nukes and if diplomacy won’t work then other options are possible. Pretty much what I expected knowing Trump, he always tries to make a deal before violence.
C. Pushing a peace deal with the Saudis. A wider look at the Middle East. As a note the Saudis are very good for the US economy. Hundreds of billions of dollars worth.
Also weakening the Iranian axis by the moderate alliance in the Middle East. We knew that.
Now, what he is saying fits to something that I picked up from an Israeli scholar a couple of weeks ago and I didn’t post here as I couldn’t confirm it from any other source and I have no idea where the scholar knew this from.
The man described a plan that Trump has that has a few steps:
~Relocating the Gazans in order to rebuild it.
~Using Saudi money and other Arab states’ money to rebuild Gaza.
~Make high rise buildings for residents.
~Some will return and some not. Depends on them. Those who will come back will need to be de-radicalized by education in order to be granted apartments.
~The economy will be based on, tourism, agriculture and High Tech.
Now, knowing Trump I would guess that he will want American control over the land to gain cash out of it all or at least use US companies to rebuild which will bring billions and billions of dollars into the US economy. Pretty genius.
The problem is that this goes against the Muslim and Arab soul. For them land is the most valuable thing after religion. Relocation is perceived as a humiliating defeat. Any Arab nation which collaborates with Trump will be looked upon as traitors and their leaders could be assasinated. So many say it is not realistic and the haters call him “nuts”.
But with Trump everything is possible. Even if this is not going to happen it could be a huge leverage against Hamas to pressure them to exchange hostages without an Israeli defeat.
But, if Trump is going to push it I wouldn’t under estimate his ability to work it out.
A real challenge. I love him for even trying. He could be entering Israel’s history on a biblical level.

My oldest Granddaughter is going through an internship to be a psychologist. She’s smart as a whip.
My younger Granddaughter is 9 y/o and just got put in the National Honors Society. She is reading so far above her level they have to give her a special test for it. I can’t believe her vocabulary. She smokes math and has a propensity for learning new languages.
Both of them spent their younger preschool years with Grandma, my Sherry, and were well ahead of their level before they even entered Kindergarten. Both learned how to learn and enjoyed it very early on.
I give full Credit to my wonderful wife for all of that.
Could you please ask Sherry what materials she used to teach them to read and at what age? My daughter turns 4 next month. I bought the Hillsdale college K-12 literacy program and I am underwhelmed. My father taught me to read at 3 1/2 but he is gone now and hard to ask him how he did it.

Yes land is more important than wives and daughters and sons. As I was told by a Palestinian when I was attending college..he could always get another wife or son but he could never get that particular piece of land.
It is an interesting proposal.
Some comments on other forums are that the President would use the strip of Gaza land that has been so decimated by death and destruction as a permanent US military base alleviating the need for such US bases in Turkey, Qatar and other ME locations.
My questions – aren’t the ‘Palestinians’ basically the nomadic heritage, no permanent place they call home? And are they still easily in tune with which of the various nomadic tribes their ancestral heritage comes from, and
if so – cannot the people who call themselves Palestinians re-align with their natural tribal affinity and have the different ME nations claim a tribe and give that grouping a new home area they can settle in, and do their thing?
And once in a new location the scholars of their religion of peace step up and begin the process of dispelling the over-emphasis of external jihad so they, and their religion, can evolve to more modern acceptable ways of living with others without wanting to hurry up and create their paradise by killing off everyone else?
Complicated business for sure – and at the least, this creates an opportunity for many to turn the imaginations of these people of conflict to begin the process of building from scratch a livable future instead of trying to relive grievances of the past.

I don’t know the exact composition of the Gazans, Gaza is an ancient place, many arrived there from Egypt, Saudia and other places. By their last name you can tell. Many arrived in 1948, the War of Independence of Israel when Israel was attacked and won and a few hundreds of thousands of Arabs from inside what is now Israel fled. Some of them are nomadic and some have been there for generations. I don’t know the exact %. Most likely that the migration from Egypt and Saudia after WW1 when the Turks(Muslims) lost to the West and the Middle EAst changed it happened. Also Israel had a demographic change when a relatively small number were there forever and many immigrated to Israel. . But jews were expelled and came back, so it’s a different story.
I doubt that Gaza can replace Turkey and Qatar for US bases but it is not impossible. I once saw the maps. The US is in some 20 locations in the Middle East. Located strategically. Realize that the area by Qatar and Iran and Saudia is where they feel they should be because all the oil fields are there.
But yes, their main bases are in Qatar and Turkey which are Muslim Brotherhood strongholds and believe therefore in an Islamic World by all means. It would be wise to move out and come to Gaza or Israel.
As to having the Palestinians change their frame of mind, this is why I joked about you being “logical”. brainwash from infant age is not so easily undone.

I’ve met a few of the brainwashed that had emigrated to the U.S., brainwashed is a pleasant way of describing what I saw;
the question on tribes is because we met, through a business acquaintance, an Egyptian and his wife who could trace their family lineage back to Libya for 1,000 years – and what was surprising is the anger he expressed in mentioning a family memory of something that happened to some distant relative over 500 years ago.
It reminded me why this, our United States, became a new world – people were expected to come here, drop all baggage of the past, and become something new, and in that one conversation with the man and his wife, realized, it’s sometimes healthy to be the mutt when it comes to creating something new, no shadows of the past need be carried on the shoulders anymore, and that freedom to be is a priceless and precious gift.
This inability to drop the past is what the ‘illegals’ that cross our borders, and cling to their old heritage, do not understand, this is a land that requires new approaches to life. And – think this just answered my questions Is it the blood memory of the land itself that will not let the people be free to evolve?

Hard to watch but we can’t close our eyes. The Hamas is not destroyed in Gaza and the population are not “kidnapped by Hamas”. Biden secured some 9 billions for them. WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
