According to media reports, President Trump has removed the entire leadership structure of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), previously run by Samantha Power.
This is not necessarily a domestic issue. Those who walk the deepest political weeds well understand that USAID is the cover agency for the interventionist efforts of the CIA. USAID is the agency silo that coordinates the meddling in foreign elections, organizes the revolutions and political opposition of those deemed out of alignment with global democratic norms, funds the NGOs who do the ground operations, and generally seeks to replace foreign leaders.
President Trump has just removed the entire leadership structure of the USAID enterprise, approximately 60 government officials. You can bet that nationalist leaders of foreign countries are smiling now while Brussels (EU Commission) is left wondering who will pay for the foot soldiers.

All the President appoints is his liaison with that agency (director). Our taxes pay their core operating expenses but they generate operating expenses through other means.. Not only are there independent federal agencies, but there are also U.S. corporations (USAID runs one), Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), and I’m sure others I haven’t learned about yet.

No. It was created as an “independent” agency (independent of other agencies but still under the Executive’s authority). Over time it developed a corrupt relationship with State but then so has the CIA. The CIA is an INDEPENDENT agency of the executive branch. That means that it works directly for the President. It does NOT fall under DOD, or DOJ, or State. In an org chart the D/CIA’s line goes directly to the President, the same as the SecDef, SecState, Attorney General, etc.
Congress has oversight of ALL Executive Branch agencies via control of funding, including the CIA. Congressional oversight of the CIA is via the House Intel Committee (HIPSCI) and the Senate Intel Committee (SISCI).
All CIA operations are undertaken in the name of the President. Covert actions require a “Presidential Finding,” a document signed by the President spelling out details of the operation, goals, risks, and funding.

I know at least one union, the NTEU (National Treasury Employees Union) sent out an emergency email last night, urging members NOT to sign the offer.

It’s actually NOT an offer to resign and collect 8 months severance pay. It was an offer to allow the employee to resign, effective September 30, 2025 and not be subject to return-to-office requirements (i.e. they can keep teleworking). If they agree to resign, they cannot change their minds and must agree to keep working through that date as a dedicated federal employee. I just read the email that was sent out from a friend who is a federal employee. The media is misrepresenting it as a severance offer for no work, which is definitely not the case.

I have personally been harping on this Voice of America (VOA) video showing Greta Thunberg meeting with President Barack Obama during the first administration of President Donald Trump. The video was created soon after the United Nations appearance of Greta Thunberg where then-President Trump totally ignored her and walked on by . . . while she glared at him with such hatred.
This video shows the meeting she had with Obama following the UN non-meeting-glaring-at-Trump episode.
Look there on the video, you see the logo for Voice of America – VOA – on the video –
so what bothered me then and since is that apparently Barack Obama had advocates at the VOA who used US government funds/resources to produce this video, which is clearly from an angle of undermining the current President at that time, Donald Trump and using VOA resources to present the former President meeting with a person from a foreign country to discuss environmental policy? To show that Obama is in sympathy with Ms. Thunberg’s environmental concerns.
I hope all the VOA people who produced that video are also gone and will not be back!
VOA was originally under State and the War Department (IC elements), then USIA/USICA (1953-1999). In 1999, USIA was dissolved and returned to State with the exception of media elements like VOA which were handed over to the newly created Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG now USAGM). At that same time, elements were pulled from USIA and IDCA to create USAID. ACDA was also dissolved and added to State. That being said, nothing is ever truly abolished/transferred and State still has control over numerous sites worldwide and their Public Affairs branch is still heavily involved in media elements (as we obviously see).

The extremely competent people will take the deal and go work in some private industry, leaving the dross to handle the government affairs. Ironically, it’s the dross PT wants to get rid of. Difficult to do under current law. Trump is trying to get that law changed but it takes time. Trump is trying to rid the bureaucracy of the unAmerican elements, some of whom are competent and all of whom have support from the Leftist Industrial complex giving them job opportunities.
In my opinion, the competent fed workers, i.e. hard-working and diligent, would have made it a point to show up at the office these past few years. Given that only 6% (reportedly) do so, there appears to be a very small contingent of such people.
Agree. I used to be one and I enjoyed my job. I was well-paid, enjoyed the company of my fellow office workers and, if I were still working, would still be there. It is not good that people were allowed to work from home. It abets sloth, inattention to the work, and unhealthy for the person.

Unless specifically prohibited, they can still remain in communication with subordinates and other stakeholders, while “on leave”. Remember, the overwhelming majority of federal government are set up for “telework” now, this transition could be seamless.
