Israel Update:
I assume that some of you were hoping to see an update now, so here we go.
It looks like there is a hostage exchange deal. Almost final. But it’s not done until all sides announce. Right now Hamas is demanding something that was not agreed. That they will choose the names of which terrorists will be let go. No way that Israel will agree to this.
Anyways emotions are high, misinformation is high, huge differences of opinions as to what is moral and what’s not,
ie. Is this deal moral or destructive. I will try to skip the noice and give facts.
It’s all leaks and reports but not a final document aside for a leaked “possible document”, so some details may be a bit off, but not much and probably this is correct.
This deal was on the table in around May and Hamas rejected it but also Bibi refused to move out of the Philladelphi Corridor area between Gaza and Egypt.
The main change is that Trump put extreme pressure both on Bibi and on Hamas. We don’t know how the pressure was applied exactly and what was promised otherwise to make Bibi say “yes”.
First what we know about the hostage situation:
Originally 251 were kidnapped. This is in addition to 4 who were already kidnapped before 10/7. One Ethiopian Jew mentality ill who crossed to Gaza on his own. One Arab Israeli who came there on his own. Two bodies of soldiers from a previous round of combat in Gaza years ago. So it’s a total of 255 people. 117 returned home alive by a deal and hostage rescues. 76 were murdered or killed as we know at this time. 40 of the bodies were brought back to Israel by our soldiers.
Total hostages remaining in Gaza, dead and alive are: 98
(we don’t know how many are dead)
The first phase of the deal includes 33 hostages, we don’t know how many are alive but the living will be released first, only on the seventh day Hamas will release the list of who is alive and who is dead. This phase will take 42 days. Israel will release about 1,850 terrorists. (Some other reports say 1,300 and some say 2,000 so the number is not final). The 33 released Israelis will be all the women, a child and an infant, people who are 50 years and above and those who are defined as “ill/injured”. They will be released some 3-4 hostages weekly.
Israel estimates that most of the 33 are alive but Fox News estimated about 23 alive.
We may face hard times if we see the Bibas family’s infant and child dead or anyone dead.
The IDF will withdraw from Gaza and establish a 700 Meters (2,296 Feet) buffer zone in Gaza by the borders. In some places it will be 400 Meters (1,312 Feet).
Unarmed Gazans will return to North Gaza. Some supervision (not sure who, but not Israel).
This phase includes a withdraw from the large Nezarim zone (the area that the IDF built to split the North of Gaza from the South.) Also the IDF will withdraw gradually from most of the Philladelphi Corodor (the area between Gaza and Egypt). Not all of it. All of it is reserved to the second phase.
About 1,850 terrorists will be released on this phase. Numbers can vary based on how many living hostages will be released. About 850 convicted terrorists. 250 with life sentences (killers). Some did some horrendous murders. About 1000 terrorists who were captured in gaza after 10/7 and didn’t participate in it. Not convicted terrorists. Will return to gaza. The killers will not go to the West Bank but either Gaza or Turkey or Qatar. All female and minors under 19 years old terrorists who were captured after 10/7 not part of the 10/7 massacre will be released amongst those numbers.
It seems like the most Arch terrorists are not released at this phase (not certain). I see as I write that Hamas is now trying to still bargain to force the release of the Arch terrorists despite it not being in the deal. Bibi is holding grounds on this.
Rafah Crossing to Egypt: Will open after all the female Israelis are released. Wounded Gazans will go to hospitals in Egypt or abroad. Coordinated by Egypt and Israel as to who.
50 wounded terrorists with three companions will be able to cross daily.
All sick and wounded Gazan Civilians will be able to cross with Egyptian authorization.
Humanitarian aide: Massive increase in aide some 600 trucks per day in the beginning.
30 terrorists released per a civilian hostage. 50 terrors per female soldier.
On day 16 the negotiation on the Second Phase will begin which includes 850all the hostages and a full end of war and withdraw of the IDF from Gaza.
Third Phase: Returning all the bodies and beginning of the reconstruction of Gaza with the help of Qatar with UN and Egypt supervision.
Trump: Trump pressured all sides for this deal. He had his man doing the negotiations and pushed it through forcefully. A part of the deal with Trump is also that Israel gets the denied weapons/munitions released and shipped around Innaguration day.
Trump on the other hand also twitted that “he will work with Israel to prevent Hamas from controlling Gaza ever again.” Trump is signaling a shift of focus to expand the Abraham Accord peace treaties to Saudi Arabia and others. Also his Lead National Security Aide just sent a message to Israelis that they will get rid of Hamas, not to worry. Mixed messages and we don’t know what Trump will do next.
Qatar: Qatar is a main sponsor of Hamas. The deal allows them to rebuild Gaza on Phase three if we get there. They also built Hamas. If this happens it is likely that Hamas will be rebuilt at the same time rapidly.
Perception: Victory celebrations in Gaza, the Arab world , West Bank and world wide. Hamas flags and celebrations in Jerusalem Al Aqsa mosque.
Hamas fighters (terrorist) coming out with weapons in Gaza and celebrating with crowds.
A video with children and adults screaming with joy “We are your soldiers Muhammad Deff”(ex-Hamas’s military leader who was killed). Video of Hamas vehicle with armed terrorists celebrating, one is a chid. The “children of Gaza and the civilians”.
Perceptions that terrorists won. That Israel was defeated. That it’s good to attack Israel and kidnap Israelis. A wave of Sunni Jihadists, Syria, Gaza, West Bank, Turkey, Qatar.
Lessons of the past: Statistically about 40-50% released terrorists return to terrorism.
Sinwar was released in an exchange, Ismail Hanya was released from a prison and many others. We are sending more than a thousand terrorists into Gaza and the West Bank.
More Israelis will die as a result.
Jewish Morality: One of the highest religious duties in Judaism is the “duty of saving hostages”. One of the highest religious duties of Muslims is dying in Jihad (religious war).
A bad combination of moral codes. Note that most of the biblical examples of this Jewish religious duty is done by force and not by giving the abductor what they want. But the duty is regardless of how.
The hostages and their families:
467 days in captivity in Gaza under some seriously savage terrorists. Inconceivable pain of the families and friends, many of them have already lost family. A nation is pain.
The views in Israel and politics: From reading comments on main stream media I see mainly anger and despair, talking about it as “we lost the war”. As “the soldiers died for nothing”. As, “for such a bad deal we could have done it long ago.” “Who would ever want to live by that border?” Politically this deal will pass with a vast majority. There is only one coalition party that opposes it. But this party has said that if the war is ended without reaching all its goals they will quit the coalition. This may throw Bibi into elections that he will lose. But they can be outside the coalition and vote against going to elections. As they are right wing and don’t want the other side to win either.
On the real right there is rage and a feeling of betrayal. Bibi and his party may be greatly weakened. Voters may shift to more extreme parties on the right. Bibi is controlling his own party as to votes in Parliament. it’s hard for Israelis to vote against releasing hostages. They have to face the families of the hostages. I just heard a quotation from a Senior Ranking IDF Officer in Gaza: “Everything we fought for went down the drain”.
The rest of the hostages: It is unlikely that we will reach the second phase. This leaves about 36 dead bodies behind, 9 foreigners, 22 Israelis that we think may be alive (Soldiers and young males that they consider as soldiers).
Conclusion: There is no sugarcoating this. It’s a terrible deal. Thousands of terrorists for maybe 25 living hostages. Loss of strategic locations that we paid for with blood, bad perception that gives back wind to other terrorists. No sugarcoating.
If Bibi will resumes the war and achieve the goals of the war which are
A. Defeating Hamas so they are no longer in control of Gaza. B. Returning the hostages. C. Securing the future so no such thing ever happens again.
Then we saved some hostages and will pay with blood but the government and military are responsible for the disaster and are obliged to bring them home.
It can be justified as it’s a superior value in our society.
There is also talk about a change of the way Israel will resume the war that will be much more powerful and effective. So it can be somewhat justified.
But if this is the end of the war, then we lost the war and we will see a surge in terrorism that will endanger the future of Israel. In the Middle East perception is a very important aspect.
This will signal the end of Bibi and his government for a long time.
This will signal that terrorism is a good idea and will expand the problem dramatically.
But, and you may not like it, but Trump himself is on test. He either will be the man who forced Bibi to do this deal and made Israel lose the war and seriously damage the Jewish State or he will help us win the war and expand the peace.
I know that he is very tempted at the financial potential of the Saudis.
But I am not sure that he understands the Islamic culture.
They are not money motivated. You can’t force them to make peace with Israel in the current atmosphere. And only the strong get peace in the Middle East. If Israel is not winning then forget about peace. I just hope he is not going to now try to shove a Palestinian State into Israel’s face to satisfy the Saudis and get them to the table.
Also their demand from the US to have their own nuclear operation is a disaster to Israel.
A few days ago Trump re-twitted a video of someone who blamed Bibi for the US war in Iraq and called Bibi “a dark soul” (something like this). The main subject of the tweet was not Israel or Bibi but Trump did post it. We may have a real problem in this relationship. Not good for Israel. Bibi is flawed in some ways and one of them is, he leaves behind him a trail of haters who worked with him before. Anyway I will not keep speculating but those are valid things to know.
But let’s not worry and just see if and how it goes. And pray that it will work out and we both get the hostages and defeat Hamas afterwards and then get the rest of them.
So we are at a turning point. May things turn for the better.
May our leaders do the greatest good for both our nations. May Trump stay on the side of Israel the way that helps defeat the terrorists.

Thank you. Yes I watched the video of Brigadier General Amir Avivi before I did the update. He is one of my sources. He tends to be right wing but moderate. He did forget to mention that Bibi also agreed to things that he didn’t before, that is the withdrawal from most of Philladelphi Corridor on Phase One. The deal is definitely due to Trump. But the future will tell if Trump should he appreciated or the opposite in this regard. If we are cornered to surrender to terrorists or it’s just a step in the overall battle. As I said I pray that it’s the second scenario. For sure I will be happy to see the hostages reunite with the families. Trump gave access for families of abductees and ex-abductees and took it personally to help them. They are the winners of this all. But we still have the others who may not return if the war resumes and we choose to meet the goal of eliminating Hamas off their power in Gaza.

My question comes to the disparity in the number of Israelis being returned vs. the much higher number of palestinians; why such a big difference in the numbers is the only question I always have?
It is a given that the Hamas side of things will lie and not keep their word so this latest delay where it is said the hamas people are wanting to make changes before signing the agreement and actually returning the Israel citizens comes as no surprise.
It makes no sense and it’s unjust that so many terrorists for each Israeli. This is what they ask and it’s because we agreed before. It’s a shame. In fact all those killer terrorists should have been executed.
But our progressive courts are expected to oppose so Bibi didn’t even try. To some degree it’s his fault as he should have at least try to push it but he opposed. So now we get injustice and hostages.

Could use one of those around here before you hit town after coming off the mountain pass, about 3 years ago a trailer had lost its snow load downtown (he was sitting @ side of road just beyond the loss) & was snowing rather briskly, my Subaru hit the snow & ripped my front fascia off & stuffed it under my vehicle.
I immediately pulled off into the nearby gas station & he took off quickly before I even understood what happened.

We’re having a heat wave. 29 F and still rising!
According to NOAA, we here @ 7,100+ ft are going to hit 40 for the next few days, has not been above freezing for about a week & dipped to below 0F for a few nights, barely staying 60 degrees upstairs overnight as this 50 year old building, that I do not own, is rather breezy when the wind blows.
I have bitc..d … er .. complained about it across 3 owners in the last 8 years but they were not investing in resealing of the windows, paint or anything else & neither am I, it’s easier for them just to pass the increased gas bill along to the tenant’s.
Someone is building a strip mall across the road from wally world & depending on price, this place might empty out to get new construction for what it currently costs for a building that was not designed as a strip mall location … it was converted to it, poorly at that.
I have three windows to replace and then every window in the house will be high efficiency double pane, and less than 10 years old. Two of the windows that have yet to be replaced are small windows. They’ll be done this spring or summer. Got an insulated metal back door with new jam and threshold installed during the additions and renovations last year/year before last. That leaves the front door to replace, which is inside a entrance alcove with an ornamental steel security door outside.
My 30 year dimensional shingle roof is 12 years old. All gutters are in great shape or new and covered by Leafguard.
HVAC is a new TRANE and installed last summer. All the doors in my heated garage are insulated.
The only thing I have left to do to improve my insulation would be to have some new cellulose blown into the old walls from the top. Over time the cold cellulose settles leaving a gap with no insulation at the top of the exterior walls in the older part of the house. Blowing some cellulose on top of the old will take care of that. That’s about 100 linear ft of wall that needs that done.
I could install new crawl space vents that have the insulated plugs included but it is much easier to just cover those vents from the outside during the late fall with styrofoam plugs that friction fit over the vents on the outside and that I make sure they stay in place by putting a castle rock to hold them. There is a crawlspace vent that opens into my new attached garage that allows heat to flow under the house.
Almost all of the plumbing is now Pex. Got rid of all the galvanized steel pipe though there is still some copper pipe down in the crawl space. I guess I could go down and put styrofoam tubes on that new plumbing, but I have never had a pipe freeze so that would probably just be overkill.
When that’s all done, it’s all done.
Yep, we’re supposed to hit 60 today here in north central Mississippi. I’ll be able to go without my long johns today.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Grew up with one of those sinks (stood on a chair till the water handles and faucet could be read). So easy to keep clean too!
I still use one of those sinks. It is the one with the drain only on the left side. It was from my moms aunts house. When they remodeled the kitchen 30 years ago I got the sink, the large cupboards that were up to the ceiling and the cabinet that was under one side of the sink. I love that big old sink.

Well, it is looking like Jan 22 (Wednesday) will be the coldest day of the coming Arctic blast for most of us. I’m talking pipe freezing, battery killing cold for us in the coldest area relative to normal. Trump’s inauguration looks to be the coldest in 40 years. Reagan’s was colder but with less snow. JFKs was warmer but with more snow. Temp 18 F, windchill 6 F.
I assume you all know how to read an anomaly map by now.
The Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) is now forecast to move from mild La Nina conditions to neutral (La Nada) conditions. This is exactly opposite of what the long range forecasts have been showing and will change our weather when/if it happens. This is just one reason why seasonal projections are not really worth much IMO. Too many variables being forecast that can change to come up with them and the SOI is a big one.
