I have read that when a fire gets bad enough, water at that point doesn’t make much difference.
If you don’t make the mitgation efforts ahead of time, your chances at containment are very low.
My friend “hardened” his home against fire last March when AllState Insurance cancelled their fire insurance. He bought a pump that draws from their backyard pool into a firehose that attaches to a whirling “bird” standing device that is like a tall sprinkler. This runs on a generator and he soaked his roof several times before evacuating. He sent me the video he took of the retired fireman that trained him on how to use. It’s impressive. Another friend of mine’s house was saved using this method though she doesn’t have a pool but the neighbors did and the neighbors saved their home and the two on either side of them in Alta Dena.

A thought crossed my mind yesterday, after seeing the topography and location of the burned out areas.
The Olympics are coming to LA, and the ‘specs’ probably included a clause about a secure ‘Olympic Village’.
How more appropriate a place could there be than a spot which can only be reached by two egresses in and out — where security checkpoints could be handily placed to protect the athletes from across the globe from any harm?
Additionally, the ‘shopping point’ did not look especially burned out in PP, thus yielding a ready-made Olympic Village center to be structured at.
Seriously would like to see who is on the Olympic Planning Committee and the plans that heretofore have been laid out.

I check at our local grocery store. We offer a recycled material, 2.5 mil reusable plastic bag. I offered one to a customer and was told no, we have too much plastic in the environment as it is, as she removed her wallet made of fake leather made of plastic, from her purse that had a fake leather bottom and material most likely made of plastic textile, dressed in clothing that looked like it to was some form of polyester.

It’s an unfortunate reality that young American troops in Japan behave really badly sometimes. However, having dealt with more than one of these underage situations when I was stationed there, 90% of the time, the girl was deliberately lying about her age. Doesn’t make it okay, but it happened a lot. Every time we had a dorm inspection, there would be at least one or two Japanese girls living there with their boyfriends. When the parents find out their daughter is dating an American, that’s usually when charges are filed. Again, it’s NOT OKAY, but it’s not usually intentionally malicious.

There is an aspect to the war that is not talked about very much. The Ukrainians don’t like to brag about it, the Russians don’t like to admit it. It’s one of the few asymmetric (para)military capabilities in the arsenal of the Kiev regime that is genuinely worrisome…
We have covered that topic a few times before, but a new, egregious case has just come to light. I am talking about the scam call centers, which have escalated to total blackmail terrorism. Dozens of elderly and teenagers have been scammed & blackmailed through various means by Ukrainian call centers to “donate” their life savings, or commit petty acts of vandalism & arson. There was a particularly large wave of these acts in late December.
You are all aware of how phone scams work. They’ve become a fact of modern life. And many, many people fall into these traps. The arsenal of scams ranges from the classic “Hey it’s the police we need your help” and “it’s your grandson, please, I need money for bail” to long-term, complicated blackmail and entrapment schemes.
The Ukraine, and the city of Dnepropetrovsk in particular, have been a gigantic hive of these scam call centers for decades. In peacetime, they were happy to just scam Russian boomers out of money. In wartime, this entire criminal endeavor has been taken over by Ukrainian intelligence. The SBU provides resources, lists of targets, technology, etc to the scammers, and in return they fulfill quotas of certain missions. During last year’s Presidential election in Russia, there were a handful of attacks against polling stations. Victims of these Ukrainian scams (usually they first scam people out of money, and then they blackmail them into committing crimes to “get their money back” — of course, they never do, but desparation makes people behave in very stupid ways) would try to set ballots on fire or pour ink on them, etc.
In late December, a new wave swept Russia, this time it was mostly attacks against banks and ATMs. The perpetrators/victims were mostly the elderly, who are, for obvious reasons, more likely to fall for these tricks.
The young guy in the photo is Pyotr Vetchinkin. He was a first-year student at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. He became a victim of identity theft through a Ukrainian call center. They took out several loans on his name. They sent out letters to various people in his life claiming he was a member of an extremist organization. They threatened to murder his family. What’s to be done about this?
I believe that every call center that can be identified — whether it’s one of the large operations in Dnepropetrovsk with hundreds of employees or a smaller one run from an apartment — is a legitimate military target, and deserves a visit by your friendly neighborhood cruise missile. Or ten.
I believe that there needs to be a cost associated with this behavior. Humanitarian concerns need to take a step back, and cities to which call center activity can be tracked should have no electricity.
I believe that this is just another data point among hundreds, among thousands, proving just how depraved our enemy is, and that he has no limits — no limits AT ALL, and, thus, cannot be reasoned or negotiated with until total submission is achieved. They must cry blood.

This actually happened to my Best Friend’s 89 yr old father. Thankfully, he was wise enough to call her before paying. I have another friend in her 70s that has been scammed out of $Thousands, calls were from India. It’s just sad.
My late dad got such a call and believed it; fortunately my sibling was present, checked on the grandchild and dissuaded him from acting on it.

Just read a story last night about a young Chinese actor who was finally rescued after his fans in China kicked up a stink. After he was safe he said that he was being held in a place with 50 other Chinese nationals…. the article went on to state that this was a major problem that no-one wants to talk about.
