I’ve written about this many times here – understand that the people of Israel are not just the Jews of today, but the WHOLE nation of Israel, which is made up of 12 tribes. Many of us might not yet understand or realize that the verse by Samuel is just as relevant today as it was and will forever be…”….to be Your people forever.” That means was, is and will be. The “chain” is unbroken. 10 or so of the 12 are considered “the lost tribes”, which began some 3000 years ago when they were defeated by the Assyrian and were “exiled” into the nations. Today most cannot recognize themselves, and believe they are what their relatively short (2 or 3 or 4 even 5 hundred years) linage says they are. Most have no clue as to 2000 or 3000 years ago. However, if you are a person of truth, trying to come closer to God, have an affinity with all things “Biblical”, can identify yourself with some or more of the characters of the Bible, and have a keen interest in all things “Holy Land”, there is more chance you are a descendant of one of the tribes. This does not mean that you are Jewish (Judah), or even need to be, your credentials in your love for the Bible is an almost certain “passport”. When we become HIS people, we become Israel.

And…there are a whole lotta people who ain’t much brighter! IMO
Last night I put on my social scientist hat (anthropology, actually) and did some long-distance fieldwork based on the generally excellent live reporting avaliable for viewing. Here are are some at-a-distance observations.
The level of devastation is enormous—the fires have targeted the most wealthy areas of LA. There some sociology that’s relevant to what we’ve all seen happen.
The first observation concerns social structure. The decades old social environment has been effectively obliterated—essential social relationships, long term friendships, essential business relationships, vital businesses—the kind that provide essential services to the neighborhoods— the very social and cultural fabric of a great city is simply gone, along with the neighborhoods that they served.
This level of destruction will most likely prove to be virtually impossible to readily replace. Most likely it will be years if not decades before a sense of LA “normalcy” can appear. But what will that “normalcy” be like?
What happens in-between will involve a massive demographic change. The people whose million and multi-million dollar homes are gone are unlikely to stick around. California has been gripped with a demographic shift going on for at least a decade if not more—people are up and leaving for more accommodating states. Doctors, mechanics, teachers, shop owners—indeed the entire infrastructure of a modern city are most likely going to simply leave.
They’ll leave because—this is a bet on my part—the enormous concentration of wealth in Malibu and other fire destroyed areas will simply depart to more congenial locations. They can do this because they can afford to simply leave. The ripple effect of their departure will mean that the teachers, mechanics, carpenters, etc. will not stick around, either.
These burned neighborhoods, in all likelihood, will not be rebuilt to anything resembling what was there before. And what does actually get built in replacement will not look anything like the decades old urban splendor that once was there. This is an historic urban tragedy— An essential economic core, a creative dynamic that was an essential part of the city will disappear fairly soon. I don’t think LA will ever be the same again. This is a great loss for our 2nd largest city but also a great loss for America.
That’s a reasonable supposition.
That Pacific Palisades was a substantial enclave, a place NEAR to Los Angeles but not IN Los Angeles where professionals in film and other industries could afford homes.
That Malibu strip of houses along Pacific Coast Highway was far more rarefied, far more wealthy, but again appealing to professionals who want to live NEAR LA but not IN LA (not everyone can afford to live in Brentwood or Beverly Hills).
Both neighborhoods contained actors, movers and shakers, and upper echelon professionals in the film industry.
I’ve never lived in LA but got a glimpse of those neighborhoods on overnight stays transiting thru LAX. One friend has a brother in the back-end of film and another friend has a sister in upper-level management, mighta been Disney.
The brother lived on Fairfax, at the north end of Hollywood Boulevard where it turns up into Laurel Canyon. The sister overnight-hosted me when she lived up in Pacific Palisades and years later when she had purchased one of the homes in that Malibu-PCH strip of oceanfront houses.
So I got to see the lay of the land in those few places very briefly, just the briefest glimpse of how life went on there.
Pretty magic places, and I’m sure a lot of wonderful people.
A real tragedy
Those same wonderful, but none too smart, people voted for their destruction.
I pray they’ve reevaluated their support and have changed their ideological perspective on governance.

Personally I thought it looked like fun, if only the sheep could walk away on their own after the ride.
To me it seems people who live in areas where there is severe dereliction of civic duty by their elected officials have a very nice time until they realize they’re trapped and can’t escape the consequences of their ideology.
The silver lining is the wealthy donor class may realign their political support in favor of sane policy and hold the DEI crowd accountable.

I’m a Secular Thitd Order Franciscan about to take final vows after years of study and discernment. I don’t claim I know the workings of the Holy Spirit better than the next person but I place my trust in God. His ways aren’t our ways, nor are His thoughts our thoughts.

I heard one man (on either Fox or Newsmax) who had lost everything in the fire say that he was turning to faith in God.
If the rich, or not so rich, turn away from faith in material things because of a forced reassessment of priorities – isn’t that an example of Romans 8:28?
If you want to read my source material, pick up a Bible and read the book of 2 Peter chapter 3, verses 3 thru 14.
It’s all about priorities.
But there’s no “there” there. . . The essential social structure that supported the donor class’s essential relationships has literally gone. Nothing’s left. As I mentioned, will the donor-class really loyally stick around to rebuild what’s been lost?
My sense is that their loyalty is pretty conditional—they will go where they can make money — and for a long, long time, that ain’t gonna be LA.

I don’t disagree with your analysis. My belief is they will realign their ideology toward common sense governance and reject failed progressive policies.
We can only hope, love . . . But we’re dealing with a population that isn’t well known for its generosity, I fear.
If these victims of poor policy and malfeasance by elected officials were going to remain in denial, they could simply move up the coast to Santa Barbara or Montecito where they can reassemble their artistic and creative enclaves, Carmel is also conducive to artist colonies.
They don’t have to abandon their progressive California mindset. In those places they’d be surrounded by like minded indiduals.
If they do decide to leave, perhaps it’s in the hope of living in reality and sanity?

You might be right, but there’s a lot of people in the world with a lot of money who will be itching to acquire property along the Pacific coastal strip, property which has been all but unattainable, at any price, for decades. I think it will get built back in far less time than one would reasonably imagine. Thousands of people with desires and millions of dollars can work fast.
I understand the devastation, but I would bet less than ten years.
Whichever of us is right, you can be sure that the replacement won’t be the same. A lot of what you say will be gone, will, indeed, be gone forever. People who knew it before will hate it after. The people who never lived it before will think it’s wonderful.
My 2 cents. Again, you may be right, and given the effort you put into your comment, you likely are. Mine is just a gut feeling stemming from observing many ‘Phoenixes’ rising from ashes time and time again. All the best to all concerned.

I did not find this movie in full to share with you – there are several “best scenes” and ‘explanations’ and reviews of it done by others (even a discussion of Bowie’s never released soundtrack for it), but alas, not the movie itself.
Like any respectable cult classic, its impact is personal via so much nuance about the Human experience, so don’t take anyone’s word for it just see it for yourself.
I place this film… entirely underrated, imo… in the category of those few real gems that get better as its re-experienced at different times in different personal circumstances.
One of its themes – ‘having it all/ losing it all’ – fits with current events; fits with this 5th gen war we’re all enduring in fact.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

My ex-wife is a logistics manager for a major UK military industrial contractor.
She told me today that there’s something ‘big‘ brewing, a lot of ordnance is being moved / positioned for something that’s happening very very soon.
There’s so much armament being shipped, there’s a shortage of ships / containers / personnel to move it all around.
She’s under the Official Secrets Act, so she would not tell me where the arms are headed.
In mid December my brother’s wife, Joyce, joined him in Heaven
msIdaho dot substack dot com now has a few of my (inadequate) words about this wonderful woman.
Of course, I mainly knew her as Brother Joe described their life together. Her obituary revealed her many accomplishments.
I must make a confession. Every day (if possible) Joe would call to check on me. He mentioned that he and Joyce were praying for me. It just dawned on this feeble old brain of mine – it’s those missing daily prayers that have left the biggest hole in my life.
I just prayed for you, especially that many prayers would fill your heart with God’s love.

I had an ‘epiphany’ (a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something) when I read Joyce’s obituary yesterday. As you may know, I have been encouraged to write about my very unusual and interesting life.
Then I read about all the (more) interesting things Joyce had done (not the least of which was caring for Joe),
I took a deep breath and looked around. Near me I see a number of living beings who are worthy of a spotlight. I intend to learn what I can about them and feature them.
Your post is spot-on. There is little competition – but there are some truly Good Human Beings. My new ‘mission’ is to go find them and write about them.
What a fabulous and meaningful endeavor❣️

The research network in medical care is in shambles and trust is low. It is hard to find good science or science willing to ask important questions. Hello Doc … Just yesterday I saw my primary care physician for the “annual.”
He’ll be 85 y/o next month and has been caring for me 25 years.
We shared a few words about current medical care, and he simply shook his head, saying there aren’t many good doctors left. He feels it deeply.
The medical field is his “calling” and it’s so evident to his patients.
I love him so much and dread the day he’s no longer my true physician friend.
You’re lucky you’ve got an old school doc, Miss Della.
When I was a tyke, we had one, too. He’d been my mom and grandma’s doc.
He was the only Doctor in town that didn’t believe in injecting Penicillin for every little ailment.
I’m grateful, sunny!

Yesterday I had a squamous cell carcinoma removed from my leg. Between the time I first went to my dr and she referred me to a dermatologist and finally the insurance co gave permission to remove it about 8 weeks had elapsed. The dang thing both hurt and itched.
Since I had to wait so long to get care I decided to try my own remedy. I got out my ivermectin gel (horse wormer) and twice daily I swabbed the cancer and then covered it. It turned the top layer of the cancer white and it was obviously dead. Every couple of days I was able to peel off the dead tissue.
It stopped growing larger, the pain left and so did the itching. It was slowly getting smaller. I say slowly but I only applied the ivermectin for about 3 weeks before seeing the dermatologist. When I went in for the 1st visit I told him what I had done. He told me to discontinue it so I did. Darn thing started getting bigger again and the pain and itching came back.
Two weeks later when he cut it out he began telling me about a study he had read online at the mayo clinic. Apparently someone had come up with a quick, cheap and easy way to get rid of some particular skin condition. He wanted to share the article with some other dermatologists but when he went back to the mayo clinic online he found the article had been scrubbed from the site and he could not find it anywhere else. He was stunned. He said he had never seen peer reviewed studies just disappear like that. He is not a young doctor, I would put him in his 70s.
He told me that he was aware of ivermectin’s effectiveness against Covid but had not heard of the cancer help. He shared that he believed Fauci should be imprisoned for life along with a number of others because of those who died unnecessarily for lack of effective treatment and those who died/were harmed by the vaccines..
Apparently he spent some time online reading about ivermectin and cancer. He asked some pointed questions about the cells dying and turning white and about me peeling off the dead layers. Too bad I didn’t put them in a baggie and freeze them so he could see for himself.

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,

Heavenly Father, as I lie down to sleep tonight, I pray that You would guard my sleeping and protect my mind from wandering thoughts and unnecessary planning. Teach me to wait for Your perfect timing and not to try to plan my future in my own strength.
Lord, I know that You have scheduled every day of my life. Help me to trust You in all things and rely on You to lead me along the straight path and guide me in the direction that You would have me to go.

Afternoon Treepers. I’ve been on the threads. Its the end of a slow snow day and about to head home. It is hard to keep emotions and hope with respect to work going, and today, for no reason, the choice for joy is harder. I am missing and desiring more time with family, friends, and fellow sojourners for Truth.
I’m grateful for the journey of discipleship and recovery that gives me tools to see clearly through the lies and arrows of the enemy.
I come to this thread often, as I do today, for strength, inspiration, and a sense of affirmation for where my hope lies. At CTH, the context is mostly about the political landscape of the nation, but the blessing of surprise when I found you around 2015 was the wisdom and inspiration among the Treepers. As a lot, you are wise, yet humble; you express where your faith and hope lie in an inspirational way, but also with humility and honesty – enough to express doubts on difficult days.
Today, with no proportional reason, is a difficult day. Our country, the world, and the political and economic landscape is rapidly metamorphosizing, at a level and rate faster than I can wrap my brain around — much less my heart and spirit.
Your honesty and transparency provided reassurance that I am not alone. Your wisdom provides guidance. Your faith and the transparency by which you work through it each day gives companionship for the journey.
I tune in to you all scattered on the branches, sometimes as if we were passing in the hall or on the street. Sometimes we sit down and have coffee together.
There have been times that several of you stepped out from the leaves and nurtured me through hard times.
You reflect for me the love and strength of God, just as the Word became flesh and walked a while among us, and you give me tangible connection to God when I don’t have the ability to reach him myself.
Thank you all.
