Panama is violating its Canal Treaty by cozying up to China — risking US safety
Donald Trump has threatened action to end the outsourcing of Panama Canal operations to a Hong Kong company, which has given Beijing de facto control of a vital conduit of US maritime traffic.
This may be so, but I personally think that Trump is taking a “very un-diplomatic” approach to the issue. Many nations of the world are “co-stakeholders” in this Canal and in how it is being managed. These same nations were also “co-stakeholders” when the Canal Zone ran it. “Big Stick” is not the right approach here.
Diplomacy is not required in this case.
Enforcement of the USA/ Panamanian treaty is required.
China is running the fentanyl factories in mexico; not just being careless about what it allows to be exported, the PLA, that is Chinese Army Officers are overseeing the entire operations down there.
And, PDJT is going to go to war with China, although not kinetic, it WILL be war.

I downloaded five years of H-1B data from the US DOL website (4M+ records) and spent the day crunching data.
I went into this with an open mind, but, to be honest, I’m now *extremely* skeptical of how this program works.
Here’s what I found

As it turns out, these are ALL Indian companies that import H-1B tech workers en masse:

Infosys (61k)
Tata Consultancy Services (60k)
Wipro
Capgemini
HCL
Compunnel
Tech Mahindra
Mphasis
These aren’t American companies that needed international talent to fill critical roles. They’re foreign companies that appear to have been founded to place overseas tech workers into US companies as contractors.

I’ve spent my career in M&A and corporate finance, and I’ve been involved in a lot of budget and hiring decisions. Unless we’ve overpaid every developer and IT person at every company I’ve ever worked for, $80-120k for roles like this is NOT market (value).

You can see where I’m going with this. A casual perusal of the data shows that this isn’t a program for the top 0.1% of talent, as it’s been described. This is simply a way to recruit hundreds of thousands of relatively lower-wage IT and financial services professionals.
America needs to be a destination for the world’s most elite talent. But the H-1B program isn’t the way to do that.

I am one of these people, who despite my dullard culture, managed to get a Double Major Undergrad and a Masters from a top US university, become a published author, and finally wade through a sea of immigrants sent here to take my job and lower my wages, and made it all the way to a CIO of a Federal Contractor.
I had to watch the chilling effect all this had on wages for my industry. I started in the 1990’s in IT. It was pretty much all American. We had great wages and one earner families were common. Then around 2006 or so, the wage growth stagnated and very talented engineers had to start taking pay cuts to compete.
This is especially difficult in the area of Federal IT Contracting. I was involved both the proposal and execution of these contracts and let me tell you, we have to cut costs because we knew other contractors would be cutting costs by hiring H1-B’s…so we did the same. They were not cheap, but they were cheaper than their American counterparts. These H1-B’s had degrees from who knows where, but to the US Government, it was okay because it was a degree. Top US talent from Ivy League schools were just pushed aside.
I could go on but this spiral downward and race to the bottom has led us to where we are today. A lower standard of living and with that, the increased crime and drug use. It’s so sad.
Then what you said about my culture…the culture of fun, sports, friends, and cartoon…the culture that your parents didn’t seem to mind coming over and taking advantage of…the culture that allowed my to overcome so many obstacles put in my way…to hear you, of all people, denigrating it. That was a bridge too far.
