Huntsville was where Aerospace, specifically the Apollo program , located headquarters back in the 60’s and 70’s. My father was a quality control engineer with McDonnell-Douglas and he was often away, flying out to Huntsville for nspections. Loomer’s timing was really catastrophic. Why do this so soon to the inauguration? She does this kind of thing constantly.

Lost in the weeds, due to the manner in which Loomer’s concern was initially reported (her article is scrubbed from her website) and her X posts were problematic and volitile… as were Musk’s responses. The entire episode was embarrassing and damaging… but is sparked off discussions that should be had.
In my opinion the larger issue has been perhaps lost – The Problematic or cautionary warning about the appointment is two fold:

Food,Cover,Water. Plant native flowers,shrubs,vines,trees. I live in the South and my huge Loropetalum where I hang my feeders near, provides the cover they need, and later nesting. A common mistake many people make is putting their feeders & water out in the open. They have to be near cover. Your state Audubon Society/Native Plant society would be great reference for the proper plants. Native Evergreen’s are key as they provide cover all year. I landscaped my yard specifically for wildlife. Its much more than a “hobby” to me. Endless enjoyment. If you need more assistance I am at your command ma’am.

If I put my bird feeder near cover, I’ll be feeding the squirrels all winter. I don’t think cardinals like far northern Wisconsin.
You have to plant them close enough that the birds are safe and comfortable but not close enough that they can jump from. I use the Pole system from Wild Birds unlimited, they sell various extensions of different lengths, you can add arms, etc. Being far enough for them to jump, but close enough for cover, with a baffle and an extension if needed, they can’t get to it, its all good. I throw the cheap sunflower from Tractor Supply on the ground for the ground birds and the squirrels do get some but they can’t touch my feeders. Its a trade off, they do plant trees so they do some good. Up in your area you would have a high probability of getting some really cool Canada forest birds like Grosbeaks,Crossbills,Repolls, etc
You could probably end up telling us some way cool bird stories friend.

We moved to MT 7 years ago so not familiar with much of anything really…clouds, weather, birds, wildlife are so different from our midwestern previous life. The O1 Exceptional Visa is very difficult to get, it takes time and it is expensive. it’s not one you just jot down some achievements etc. You have to be sponsored by a USA employer, there has to be a contract submitted with the application and a plan for the 4 year period that the individual will be in the USA. It does not lead to a Green Card or Residency and at the end of the visa period, the employer is responsible for either, a renewal of the visa (only a minority are renewed ) or reporting that the contract has been terminated and therefore the visa holder must now leave the USA.

First, as a design feature of everything USAID does, our staff are trying to draw in local change makers. Local change makers, who are the ones who will keep working toward progress long after a USAID investment, or an American investment, or a donor investment ends. Many of these local changemakers are, in fact, on our own team, on our own staff. I often say that USAID’s superpower is our Foreign Service Nationals. Citizens of our partner countries who make up the majority, by far, of USAID’s overseas workforce. We’re talking about two-thirds to three-quarters of our teams in every country where we work. These Foreign Service Nationals bring decades of experience in local government, academia, and the private sector, and they are invaluable in understanding the shifts that can create truly sustained change in their communities.
Over the past few years, we have undertaken a concerted effort to create more opportunities for FSN leadership and advancement across all of our missions. This past week has been a tough one for many citizens…every night I worked, we lost one to two patients in the ICU…many families are grieving now…
If you have loved ones in nursing homes…keep an eye on them and if they seem ‘not right’ or getting sick…speak up….it seems whatever bug is out there, hits fast and furious. The common denominator so far is being in a nursing home. And like covid, the standard treatment, in this case, cardiovascular support and ventilatory support, is not working….and am seeing a pattern and timeline, again.

Funny you should ask, I’ve been investigating the fraud in the F-1 Student Visa system too.
It’s just as big of a rabbit hole as the H-1B stuff and the two are very interconnected. Buckle up because this one is something.
Here’s the game. Students from India fake their undergraduate degrees and just apply straight to Masters programs. The reasons for this relate to H-1B reqs and other things but also because colleges have gone full woke and stupidly don’t have any way to verify the undergraduate certificates. So they just accept them most of the time. Canada is much worse btw, they have actual diploma mills with like 80k Indian students.
Once the student has been accepted for their masters the fun part begins. They pay people with masters degrees in India to do the work for them and they have people within the masters programs themselves who are complicit (that whole nepotism thing again) to help them. This means they can skate through the masters program without getting caught. While they are “at school” they drive for uber/doordash for money.
Once they “graduate” and finish their masters they are now here illegally so it’s time to defraud the H-1B system. Enter the Indian H-1B consultants.
The grift is basically this. The employee is a “subcontractor” working for the consulting firm and being subcontracted out to one of their clients. The problem is they don’t have a Visa. So the consulting firm just fakes an H-1B Visa. Since it’s the consulting firm’s job to check, the company is none the wiser that they are actually using illegal labor.
Obviously the “contractor” has no idea what they are doing so this work is also outsourced back to someone in India that the H-1B consultant has set up.
The payment is made to the consulting firm and the worker is paid under the table. From what I’ve been told these are very predatory agreements so it usually means the worker has to still drive uber etc.
Once the first contract is finished. They now have real experience to put on their resume with a real reference and everything. So they begin the process of actually applying for their H-1B.
The consultant once again manages the whole process, commits a ton of fraud to get through the lottery system. Finds a company who needs a permanent IT hire. Company then sponsors the candidate and voila. They’ve committed like 10 instances of fraud but the person is now legit, has an H-1B and can work in the US.
