UASs are often referred to as drones, while AAM involves the use of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to move people and cargo between places not easily served by other modes of transportation. Both UAS and AAM technologies are being developed rapidly by government and military agencies and private industry and the testing corridor will help to safely integrate them into the national airspace.
The availability of the UAS/AAM evaluation corridor between Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (JBMDL) in New Jersey and Dover AFB in Delaware allows AMC and USTRANSCOM to rapidly assess technical and operational concepts for UAS and AAM, and to develop measures of value in operational scenarios. What makes the designated airspace a “dual use” corridor is that the CRADA facilitates the launching and landing of civilian craft from non-DOD sites within the corridor, including the NARTP. “They said they were the size of a car and they weren’t far off the stern,” said Smith. “I called the Joint Base and talked to the commanding officer there. We have the capability with DoD to ascertain where it’s coming from, or even bring it down, but they don’t have the authority to do it.”
Coast Guard operations in Ocean County come under the jurisdiction of Sector Delaware Bay, and Shorebeat has reached out to their representatives for more information.
An Ocean County Sheriff’s Department officer told smith he observed “over 50” drones approaching the beach from the ocean on Monday night.
“There’s probably a ship that is launching them,” Smith said, before the interview shifted to a potential response from the Pentagon.

But that “one man” is a U.S. Coast Guard commanding officer, another is an Ocean County Sheriff’s Department officer, and there were others who saw the same things.
We know from what Sundance posted that these things are real.
But it is disingenuous for the writer to dismiss what those people said they clearly observed.
If they don’t want people talking about them, how about testing them in unpopulated areas of the country 🥴
Plenty of isolated places to run tests – with no one finding out. They set up this corridor in arguably the most densely populated state NJ and metro area NYC in the US for a reason. There seem to be potential added benefits for the gov.

An optical spectrometer might be useful to determine what is going with it, but people are not normally going to be carrying those around with them everywhere.
Around 1980, I saw ball lightning up close and personal, when lightning struck very close to the metal shack that I was working in.
The video above doesn’t look like ball lightning to me. It looks like a star or Venus being filmed with a deliberately unfocused camera. The atmospheric turbulence in the line of sight creates the variations which are interpreted as “spinning”. You get the similar effect in a telescope viewing stars at night when the atmosphere is turbulent. It is the effect that makes stars appear to “twinkle”.

Reminds me of a breakthrough that happened about 30 years ago from a researcher working on Keck on the big island. using laser to tackle the problem of atmospheric distortions when using ground based telescopes to capture distance objects without the distortion. Pretty amazing invention.
Also there is a big difference in rendering images from a digital CCD versus analog (non digital old school mirror/glass telescopes). One specific phenomenon are the development of “artifacts” these are transient errors that the CCD produces depending on a number of conditions. It ranges from pixilation, loss of pixel, incorrect pixel supposition, and other strange distortions of the rendered image. Only really high end sophisticated error correction software can mitigate artifacts.
these artifacts are well known….for example back way back when it was phosphorous flashes and fixed aperture wooden housed cameras, it would be quite common to produce images that seemingly suggested that there was a ghost image of the person slightly beside the person. Apparently, this phenomenon is related to a type of artifact that results from the flash reflecting back from the subject (at light speed), before the aperture closes, thus producing a second image, but ghostly because it is being reflected back from the flash of the phosphorous flash. Kind of like a mirror but only reflecting a certain part of the wave length, and because the film material is not well adapted to the full range of that spectrum, the image appears to be shadowly, undetailed, ..hence, a ghost.
the same thing can happen with the human eye in certain conditions. in very bright light saturated conditions like a full blown snow storm; a white out. A particular high spectrum of light is directed toward the eye from many angles, at intensities that eye cannot resolve, overwhelming the senses literally. The eyeball is an interesting organ…But it is mostly the brain that “fills in the blanks”. For a really interesting study, check out what color blindness really is. Fascinating stuff

The ones on a flight path behind my house were much lower, moving a considerable distance in a short time.

The FAA has issued a Temporary Flight Restriction valid from November 25th through December 26th for the area over the Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County, New Jersey. This TFR restricts all UAS (drone) flights, unless the operator is “IN POSSESSION OF AN APPROVED SPECIAL GOVERNMENTAL INTEREST(SGI) AIRSPACE WAIVER;” Which means, basically, no drones over the Picatinny Arsenal unless they’re our drones. I wonder if Picatinny is the source of the flights.

One of the problems is ignorance. Drones are a lot more versatile than the layman thinks. They’ve already transferred into the entertainment field and just using that as an example, what you think you see isn’t necessarily what you are seeing. A better way to explain that is to suggest you search out LunaLite Show. I caught one of their shows in Japan, and it was absolutely fantastic…also, a bit unbelievable.
A problem larger than ignorance is malfeasance. People do not trust what government says or does. This problem is magnified when government feigns ignorance. The official word across multiple agencies and offices is we don’t know anything about this observed activity. Our airspace system is regulated and controlled. While you are free to fly through most of it, you can not fly in it, especially over populated areas, without somebody knowing what’s going on.
That’s the thing, they (the federal government) are so cavalier about it – like, “so what are you going to do about it?”

Reminds me of the “our border is secure”, “immigrants taking over apartment complexes is in your imagination” nonsense we heard leading up to the election.
