Once we accepted “Everyone has a right to college”, admission standards were abandoned and college became high school.
That however was not suicidal enough we had to added DEI admissions to merit-based programs like engineering and medicine, ensuring that everyone went down with the ship.
Once we were ‘indoctrinated’ constantly that everyone has to go to college to be successful, therefore it became a ‘right somehow,’ standards fell and college costs rose greatly. Add in the federal govt. taking over student loan management guaranteeing those loans and college became basically very very expensive high school with failed results for the students and high debt left for them to pay off, I agree.
A lot of employers wouldn’t even look at a resume without a four year degree, for any types of “white collar” employment at all.
Even “blue collar” careers (police) started requiring that degree.
In certain big company warehouses, a two year degree will allow the person to advance only as far as supervisor. After that a four year degree is required

Actually, in Ohio it has been all Ohio residents have right to attend state university, but if the high school grades,etc are not at a certain level they have to attend a 2 year type of college, can’t remember what it is called to see if they can cut it at a regular university. Been like that for decades. Don’t know if it still is or not, don’t live there any more.

Many kids are shuffled off to “college” without any idea where or why they are going and without consideration of other options that may be more appropriate (i.e., likely to produce favorable outcomes for the student).
My nephew(Caucasian) and his computer nerd Asian buddies had some of the highest test scores in the County and State prior to High School graduation.
You would not believe how many scholarships passed them up that would have been sure bets for full rides just a few years ago. (The discrimination was worse for the Asian kids.)

But what does this mean?: Williams successfully entered a plea agreement, according to Houston Public Media. He is required to cooperate fully with any federal investigations in the future.
Does it mean he will not serve time or pay the fine? Or will that still be determined at a January sentencing? I feel like these crooks need to serve time and pay up, like ordinary citizens would have to. I hope this doesn’t mean that he walks in exchange for cooperating with the feds.
