I suspect that Trump thinks that somehow Iran can be forced to order HAMAS to release the hostages by economic pressure on Iran as if Hamas is a ‘subsidiary’ of Iran, which it isn’t.
Hamas was set up by the Israelis to drive a wedge between the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, that it achieved. It is now giving Israel a good reason to bring Gaza into Israel. Israeli strategists will be patting themselves on the back.

To this day, Hamas enjoys the support of Palestinians in both Gaza and J&S. There has not been a single Palestinian who has stood up and said what Hamas did on the 7th October 2023 was wrong.
By the way, the Palestinians in Gaza who tried to flee from Gaza were shot by Hamas into burial trenches. There is no standing up to Hamas. Just like there is no standing up to the PA.
Hamas and the PA are utterly corrupt organizations given billions of dollars by the international community. What do they do with the money? Hamas built miles and miles of terror tunnels from which to attack Israel. the PA uses the money to enrich the leaders so they can live anywhere in the world and drive Mercedes. Neither Hamas nor the PA spend any of the money given to them on the people they are supposedly leading.

Assuming Hamas is under direct control of Iran, Iran is part of the BRICS parallel economy that Russia operates in. The U.S. has abused sanctions to such a degree that countries have taken actions to lessen their impact on their economies.
Hamas is now likely operating in revenge mode against Israel due to the 100,000 + dead over the past year. It is difficult to see if anyone can stop them now other than an Israeli peace deal which seems highly unlikely.

Do you know how many Gazan civilians participated in 10/7?
