There were a number of articles last year (?) that delved deeply into the topic, initially using various areas of Texas as the case study. It was determined that the assessed value of property and resulting taxes had nothing to do with actual values, but was based upon the local budgets. They created the planned budgets first – then used that to determine what they need to raise from property tax – then gave those numbers to the assessors, who adjusted values accordingly.

My appreciation friend. One of the old gang of criminals scams was to use the Open Space Fund that was supposed to be used to purchase green space, to offset their budgetary hijinks. They use the county budget as their own slush fund. After a big storm knocked out power a local citizens spotted one of the criminals running a county generator at their house instead of a traffic light where it was supposed to go. There is story after story like one of them using a County vehicle and county gas to drive to their other State Government job that was over 100 miles a day and he had done it for years. Another one became a mayor and had to give up their town health & safety position that paid over 100,000 (plus they had a paid county position) and felt so entitled they demanded the town council give it to his wife! This finally got so over the top with his antics they quietly removed him. Their entitlement to rob and steal from the taxpayers is beyond belief to most Treepers. I could go on and on. It certainly could be argued that PDJT has “re-branded” the Republican party in a most spectacular way.
However, he started out with a Republican party that had been branded as the party of the wealthy, of White middlecand upper class; that was the image and brand.
The Dem party starts out in a much different place, with a far more negative position to overcome.

So, if they try to rebrand themselves as grandads Democrat party, is anyone going to believe them?

And, just as obviously it will require honesty, as those doing the rebranding admit, TO THEMSELVES, just how far off the rails they went.

It’s important to keep in mind the things that the President can do independently of the other branches and the things that require the cooperation of the other branches. Regulations written by executive branch agencies can be changed by the president single-handedly. US federal law requires Congress to change or Supreme Court to rule unconstitutional.
The schedule of drugs is US law and requires the cooperation of Congress to re-schedule.
But the idea that marijuana is Schedule I and opiates (including fentanyl) are Schedule II is ridiculous. Schedule I means there is no accepted medical use. Chronic pain — hmm, which is less damaging, marijuana or opiates? Which of the two enriches pharmaceuticals?

The Controlled Substances Act did establish ‘schedule.’ However, the determination as to which drugs and why were left up to the DEA and FDA.
Those 2 agencies have in many instances arbitrarily assigned substances into schedules that violate their own protocols.
So while disbanding or amending the statute would require legislative cooperation, the actual implementation of how it is interpreted and implemented is certainly under the full purview of the POTUS.
Theoretically, Trump could order independent studies, or even alter guidelines for scheduling, and thus reclassify some drugs higher on the schedule, or alternatively, schedule or remove other drugs all together, ie Marijuana.
It can be done without Congressional oversight, approval or cooperation. The question is, will it be done?
As much as I agree with the sentiment regarding Marijuana, I have an equal or more problem with other drugs being scheduled way below where they need to be and moreso with the harmful pharmaceuticals that are even allowed to be used even with a prescription.
That is the hypocrisy of the whole thing.

But then you have a classic examples like the 30-something woman, whom my wife has been trying to help recently as a volunteer.
This woman has 6 children by 3 different “fathers,” one of whom she barely recalls: she knows only what his first name “might” be.
The children do not attend school on a regular basis: two older teenagers were in school for c. 60 days out of 187. (Both were promoted.)
Worse, the woman had finally found a full-time job cleaning rooms at a local hotel, after years of part-time jobs.
However, when she finally started receiving Social Security benefits via her recently deceased second husband (dead of cancer at 42)…
...she quit the job!!!
It did not strike her that keeping the job AND using the benefits wisely would improve her living conditions!
So now she stays in her filthy house all day with her new unemployed, chain-smoking boyfriend.
Does she bother to clean the trash scattered throughout the house? Does anyone in the house bend over to clean anything?
Does anyone bend over to clean up the trash and garbage outside in the yard and drive-way?
Does anyone take out the overflowing garbage cans to the curb on pick-up day, garbage cans which have been overflowing for months, perhaps with debris from the previous resident of the house?
It does not take a high I.Q. to understand the difference between filth and cleanliness.
Such people, of course, vote for DEMS, to keep the checks coming!
It is no wonder that the children do not want to work in school, given the lack of adult examples of thrift, diligence, and competence.
And so the cycle will continue into the future: my wife is trying to counter-act their environment with her visits and counsel, but, so far, it is the work of Sisyphus.

Do I want any child deprived of that magical aspect of childhood? Absolutely not…!

When I moved to the desert southwest nearly 30 years ago, I would drive out to the Mojave Desert and see the Milky Way. Even from my suburban backyard, the sky sparkled with stars.
Last night, I looked at the sky ( dark by urban standards as my community tries to follow “dark skies” protocols) and realized that I was looking at the international space station, a drone monitoring a multi year freeway construction project, and untold numbers of satellites. I could still pick out Orion and the Big Dipper, but recognized with sadness that my kids and grandkids will never see the sky uncluttered by human ingenuity.

I have sat back and allowed myself time to assess the current episode revealing itself in Sanford, Florida involving the shooting of 17-year-old Treyvon Martin. First of all, if all that has been reported is accurate, the Sanford Police Chief should be relieved of his duties due to what appears to be a mishandling of this shooting in its early stages. The US Navy SEALS identified Osama Bin Laden within hours, while this young man laid on a morgue slab for three days. The shooter, Mr Zimmerman, should have been held in custody and certainly should not be walking free, still having a concealed weapons carry permit. From my reading, it seems this young man was pursued and there was no probable cause to engage him, certainly not pursue and shoot him….against the direction of the 911 responder. Let’s all be appalled at this instance not because of race, but because a young American man has lost his life, seemingly, for no reason. I have signed a letter supporting a DOJ investigation. I am not heading to Sanford to shout and scream, because we need the responsible entities and agencies to handle this situation from this point without media bias or undue political influences. This is an outrage.

My mother also died in May 2020, after battling dementia for several years – I was not allowed to visit her once the time the nursing home was shut down on March 16th, but because she had already been designated as a Hospice patient, I was finally allowed to go in once she was determined to be “end stage” which was six weeks later.
I got to spend the last five days of her life with her but she was already nonresponsive at that point. My brother, my husband, and her grandkids were NOT allowed to come in (although the facility let my younger son “sneak in” because he really wanted to say goodbye, which I greatly appreciated.)
She, like Walter Kirn’s father, did NOT get a funeral – I waited for a while, hoping to be able to do something outdoors in the summer but all of her friends were locked down and terrified at that point, so none of them would have come anyway.
However, I did notice that St. George of Floyd got FIVE funerals that same months so evidently C0v1d doesn’t spread amongst the criminal class nor among pandering politicians (but I repeat myself)!

When we landed on these shores in 2006…I after twenty years away in Wales, my British husband for the first time, he was employed within a week at a dealership with a very high end marque.

Will Russia take out the Ukrainian grid, will it deploy another Oreshnik or could it decide to attack the US base in Poland? Whatever the Russians decide they will be concerned to retain the support of allies such as China, India and other BRICS countries. There is no legal constraint on Russia’s use of the IRBMs since Trump pulled out of the deal restricting their us back in 2019. Under the circumstances, there appears to be no legal constraint on Russian attacks into Europe which, some would argue, is de jure and de facto at war with Russia. It is not clear whether NATO’s article 5 has an application here (see below)
