Just being alive is a gift worthy of continuous gladness and thanks.
This is my favorite Holiday, secular though it is; Christmas kicks my butt every single year because of the contrast between what should be and what is.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, hopefully at home or with friends and family, I hope we all will say a prayer for those who lost EVERYTHING in the floods that came as a result of Hurricane Helene. Many of them, including families with small children, are living in tents in sub-freezing weather. May Jesus comfort and protect them all.

Giving thanks is the soul and purpose of the day!
If any wise guy uses the phrase “Turkey Day,” a phrase possibly invented by a sportscaster deeming himself witty rather than stupid, annoying, and nearly sacrilegious, you have my permission to smack him in the chops! “Hate” is only the beginning of my reaction to the idiotic phrase!
The day does not honor a bird!
It honors the ideas and virtues of hard work, courage, persistence, and Faith in Divinity, from which those virtues are derived and strengthened.
It honors The Family living those virtues, even though families will always have troubles of some sort: on Thanksgiving, we try to forget those troubles, and give thanks for the happiness which we have found, be it even the tiniest smile amid a whirlpool of worries and doubts and chaos.
And so, once again, Happy Thanksgiving!
I suspect you’ll hear that phrase less and less. I’m hearing from people in the grocery biz that more people are taking the free ham or buying beef at Thanksgiving.
I raise my own turkeys, turkey day was 2 weeks ago, that’s when I butchered them. Turkey day is also the beginning of turkey week. It takes about a week to process them into meal size packages for freezing, canned soups, stock and meat, along with making dog food and treats that spoil my pups.
