It is legal immigration, but it has decimated entire industries in terms of American workers. Especially the H1-B Visas – I’m one of the few American developers working on a massive, mission critical application for a major corporation. Virtually all of my fellow contractors and co-workers are H1-B Visa immigrants.
I would be keenly interested in any sort of solution for scaling that back and getting more American’s back into the technology workforce.
First we have to fix the schools to transistion them from an indoctrination system back to an educational system.
That will take years and many battles with unions.
Eliminating the DOE would be a great start.
Fixing schools and the visa system are two distinct issues. One doesn’t have to wait for the other.
Respectfully, we have plenty of Americans who took all the right courses (America is where many of the H1B workers were educated as well) and either can’t get hired or, as with Disney, get kicked out of the jobs they were doing to make room for foreign workers.
