You would think the people of Detroit would have dumped the Demonrats yrs ago when they all found out how corrupt Mayor Coleman Young was and how corrupt the police department was in the 80s.
It’s sad driving down 75 and seeing whole blocks completely empty of all houses except one on a whole block and they can’t even give houses away it’s so bad.
For a brief period in the mid-’60s, Detroit was the Model City. Newspapers and magazines from coast to coast wrote admiringly of its young, progressive mayor, interracial civic committees, anti-poverty programs and apparent promise. Then came the disastrous riot of 1967.

In 1960 Detroit was arguably the 5th or 6th largest city in the country. It’s auto industry was populated by people with roots in Appalachia, whites and blacks from the Deep South, and first and second generation immigrants from Eastern Europe. Detroit’s working and middle classes were doing pretty well. It was a great sports city. The big fly in the ointment was the boredom of assembly line work.
“Detroit City” by Bobby Bare remains one of my favorite oldies from that era.
Michigan govenor George Romney met Saul Alinsky. Detroit riots soon followed. Create a crisis.
The Model Cities Project quickly became the odious Projects.
They were the ‘smart cities’ of the time; the Projects are what the ‘smart cities’ of today will become.
Obama tried to sell off the last Chicago Project to the Olympic Committee, because it was owned by his father in law; Valerie Jarrett had already sold off her portion.
That Project was where Obama learned to “community organize”, Altgeld Gardens.
They probably wanted to, for those who endeavored to vote. But, elections are rigged everywhere. They must fix that first just like we need to do in our own areas.
I lived in and around inner city Detroit for a while. If you get past 8 mile road, it gets better as you go north. But, below that, not so good.
