Florida man’s DIY strapped down house makes it through Hurricane Milton unscathed
The efforts one Florida man went to in order to batten down the hatches and prevent his home from being damaged by Hurricane Milton as it roared across the state earlier this week, appears to have paid off.
In a photo that went viral, homeowner Pedro Casares of Orlando had the wild idea of strapping down his family home in an attempt to prevent major damage as the category 3 storm pummeled the area.
Despite skepticism from those who saw the picture ahead of the storm, Casares’ forward planning looks to have saved the home from any significant damage.
Casares spent $22,000 for the cement anchors and specifically made-to-order straps that lined the rooftop of the family home which are said to be able to withstand 5,400 pounds of weight.

I keep my boards in the garage. I made them myself and they use clips that allow them to be placed quickly and taken down just as quickly. It might take 10 minutes to setup all of my windows.
My friend in Houston has them for her house and her mother’s house.

One of the relief organizers in East Tennessee talks about not only FEMA not showing up till 10 days in, but then going in and taking all of the donations that were in schools. Unfortunately they didn’t avail themselves of their local sheriff…or others. What they did do is not give up, moved operations to a church’s warehouse, emptied a large portion of it, and reorganized things, and continued the relief effort.

I have family in Zephyrhills, FL. Employer (manufacturer with office close to west coastline) made them work all day Monday. On the long drive home, there was no gas to fill car. No gas in the middle of the night–they tried, hoping for refueling at stations. Tuesday they were stuck in place. Insult to injury, told to work from home. They wanted to evacuate but had to keep job. Employers should have some accountability. Yes, family was in danger and they lost power for 5 days.
“Employers should have some accountability.” They do. Employers have nothing, can’t run their companies without their employees, *but* those employees must hold them to account. Yes, just like citizens must hold their leaders to account.
That’s why unions were formed. So the sheeple could band together effectively to hold the employers to account. Yes, some can stand up for themselves, as we saw during the Covid fiasco, but sadly the courageous are few and far between.

FEMA and the Federal government (aka Harris/Biden/Mayorkas) did nothing. The American people in the area – did anything and everything they could and continue to do so for their fellow human beings.

When Superstorm Sandy left millions stranded in flooded homes FEMA pushed paper, but that’s about it. Two hundred families with children were displaced from our school district alone.
The snows came, the spring came and summer came, and they were all still homeless.

These are the road closures in NC. There still remain large sections isolated due to washed out and blocked roads. The government is doing nothing – it’s all private volunteers and people using their own equipment and hands. The only route into NC from the Tennessee side open as of this evening was 19 E from Roan Mountain. Note that every other road is closed AT the NC border. It’s almost as if they are intentionally keeping the areas isolated. Also note that many of the closed portions of road (like several at the NC border) don’t show up on this zoomed out view.
This is an example of why significant areas are still cut off. This is near Boone, NC.

That article sounds like pure propaganda. If there truly are armed residents challenging outsiders, it’s obviously in response to looters, not those who come to assist.
In my town, after Sandy, there were streets where residents cordoned off access and placed signs warning that trespassers would be shot on sight. Since the residents were displaced and electricity didn’t return for weeks and months in some areas, there were no lights on at night. This is a looter’s paradise.
