Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has initiated an emergency fuel service in the central and western Florida regions impacted by Hurricane Milton. Fuel is the lifeblood of all recovery efforts.
The program is for several areas to have tanker trucks that can pump directly to consumers. Each resident who can go to the fuel distribution center will get 10 gallons of gasoline free, either in their gas cans or into their vehicle gas tank. Distribution will be made in Port Charlotte, Pinellas, Sarasota and Hillsborough counties, with more on the way.
Additionally, 50 highway patrol vehicles have been assigned escort duty to assist fuel tankers getting quickly to gas stations in the needed areas. There are a few videos below outlining the emergency distribution:
.
Additionally, FEMA has extended the full reimbursement for debris removal to a 90-day window. This will help municipal areas quickly get their contractors working to remove debris.

Working hard to address the needs of his people. I can respect that. He dug a pretty big hole tho.
Hes been a good governor. Unfortunately, Casey got stars in her eyes.
She saw Dr Jill and wanted to be there. Envy.
He times out in this cycle…his best efforts are or seem to in State government…specifically, Hurricane/disaster response….he could fix a lot more if he chose to stay in Florida government.
Giving credit where it’s due, DeSantis is very good at emergency management.
Skills that, if he weren’t such a douche bag in character, he could put to good use in whatever field he chose, even politics.
Alleycats: Yup. Accurate.
Make him the new FEMA head then. That should keep him in check.
DeSantis has the potential to be great as head of FEMA.
Question is, can he resist the siren call of corrupt entities related to FEMA operations.
He sold himself to high bidder once…
He sells himself to the higest bidder every single time. He is a phony of epic proportions.
Yup, could see him as head of FEMA for sure.
The first things he should fix are all the b.s. he put in place to run. Revert back to resign to run. Revert back to Sunshine polices. Unsign that b.s. and tell the people you screwed up and apologize for stealing from them.
Anything short of that and he is and always will be persona non grata in the White House big boy chair.
He actually hasn’t been a good governor. Florida is an absolute mess. We have out of control homeowners’ insurance which has nothing to do with hurricanes but crony capitalism. We have car insurance that runs nearly 400% higher than the national average. We have stagnant wages, unaffordable housing and the local governments are working hard to sell off every last square inch of land in this state to build upon. We have corporate welfare going on where the taxpayers are paying to improve roads to raise the property values for corporate housing projects. We have the FWC which is completely bought into the global warming narrative regardless of DeSantis rhetoric. We have one of the utterly worse healthcare systems in the nation where the Governor and his handlers have turned over safe nursing staff ratios to the corporations that own the hospitals resulting in dangerously unsafe staffing in hospitals and a way to keep healthcare workers from earning a living wage in this state which they cannot. I can go on an on here with actual facts but it seems you are the one with stars in your eyes because he pissed off liberals over issues that won’t really matter as people are losing everything they own as Florida becomes more unaffordable every day.
He dug a hole????
A metaphor for making really poor alliances and using deceit in a presidential run wearing lifted fancy boots. Becoming someone unbecoming. He’s a good governor—4 more years in FLA and he would have been great for national limelight. Instead he rushed it, associated with jerks, and dug himself into a bit of s hole. Poor choices
I think he was pushed by his ambitious wife. Not good.
he owns what he did, not his wife.
And now JD is taking his place.
he actually wasn’t a good governor if you look at the metrics. Florida is a mess. Unaffordable, stagnant wages and out of control insurance.
Right, but perhaps he saw the error of his ways–maybe he reads CTH.
One can hope. Wold love to see an nRNA injection ban in his state.
If he doesn’t read CTH, he will remain uninformed.
Nobody wants to be a Gov. Cooper..
I’ll restate what I said on yesterday’s thread. If DeSantos would stay in his lane, big IF, he has the skill set to run a well executed rescue/recovery/restoration natural disaster mission and would be good running FEMA in President Trump’s administration.
Impressive
This is a terrific idea. That fuel could also be brought home to fuel generator sets giving much needed electricity to clean up efforts. Bravo!
What one governmental administration can do – when they want to.
maybe Ron could be over FEMA
After Elon cleans out the dead weight? He, Ron, certainly has disaster response down to a fine art.
DeSantis knows (and Elon would confirm) that FEMA is simply not task-organized to perform that which SHOULD be emblematic of an organization with such a name. I would stock for the flailing and gnashing of teeth, but the trimming would be massive. Please notice I didn’t re-organize into a different bureaucracy.
Ron DeSantis is having his moment, and this moment will reflect well on him in the history of Florida.
While the responsibility for safety and security begin and end with the individual,
Gov DeSantis is doing everything in his power to help the people throughout the state by restoring critical infrastructure.
And then some.
Trust God. Fear not.
Yeah A heck of a lot better than phony Rick Scott !!1
It’s not going to erase the outrageously out of control insurance rates, the stagnant wages and unaffordable housing.
He talked about pumping from the tanker trucks to the vehicles and cans earlier…awesome….those people need it…in a ‘gittr done’ mode. It seems like it is the gentleman he calls “Kevin”…seems like its his baby…
1.4 million left to be restored…thanking the guys from Alberta Canada…
Yes. That’s Kevin McGuire, Director FDEM.Good guy.
WHAT? No emergency chargers for electric vehicle owners?
Where’s the compassion? /sarc /sarc /sarc
For sure not a wise choice for a vehicle if you live near the beach… (video of fire after flooding from Helene)
“SIESTA KEY, Fla. – A family on Siesta Key survived Hurricane Helene but narrowly escaped when they say a Tesla parked in their garage ignited in the middle of the night. ”
https://www.fox13news.com/news/electric-vehicle-catches-fire-garage-destroys-home-during-hurricane-helene
What about fuel depots along the evacuation routes in northern Florida?
We have barely had gas since Helene, say nothing of Milton.
Hopefully, this will help somewhat.
In that they won’t be diverting fuel from other areas to the really stricken areas.
I remember a few years back when our local NE FL Aldis was out of nearly everything.
I asked the workers there what was going on and they said a lot of stuff had been diverted to areas of Texas that were trying to recover from a hurricane.
Kinda makes sense to do that, even tho it *was* a PITA for us in NE FL.
I could see them doing that with fuel if they had to. So…..
The widespread flooding begins Monday in my area. The river is projected to be almost 10 ft above flood stage. It’s difficult to find fuel to mix to put into my John boat in case I have to boat to the grocery to look at all the food they don’t have.
Can you imagine the poor people in MN. with Gov Walz during an emergency?
ugh. I shudder to think about it.
And it gets damn cold up there in the winter
So Sundance do you see any role for Desantis in a Trump administration? FEMA?
Hopefully fema will be closed, and emergency services given back to the states, where it belongs. The federal government is way, way too cumbersome and bloated.
A slimmed-down FEMA, no longer in “Homeland Security (which WILL be shut down), would have a coordination role. Strip it of non-operational bureaucratic staff.
Homeland security and the patriot act both need to go.
ummm…okay,so I am not opposed to disaster relief money being spent.
but can we please STOP CALLING IT FREE !!
damnit.
God Bless America
I am adamantly opposed to the federal government picking my pocket and then arbitrarily picking winners and losers. Good government is government at the lowest levels with each individual taking responsibility upon themselves for most of their own security and well being.
Disaster relief should be at the lowest community and state levels as in reasonably attainable where the needs are best known and best managed. If you expect a large centralized government to bail you out of every calamity encountered then also expect that government to take a large part of your income and wantonly abuse the distribution of its coffers.
Disasters such as this would bankrupt small communities so your comment is the essence of foolishness. 99% of the money put out by the federal government should be stopped. Disaster relief is not one of them. Good grief you people haven’t a shred of common sense. You want to throw the baby away with the bathwater. You don’t need a “large centralized” government to be able to help people in a disaster. How about we trim away non-essential things first. People like you are literally just as ignorant as democrats.
To bad he’s a Dolphin island surrogate!
He does crisis management pretty well based on common sense approaches.
He’s just not a high profile guy, just like Ted Cruz.
Which is why the dolphin island billionaires sunk money into both candidates
Sea Island, Ga.. Dauphin Island is beside Mobile, AL, Ms65
These decisive actions following cohesive strategy are examples of why I thought he is more effective and necessary as a governor. He seems to excel at complex detailed problem solving and that’s not the way the job of the President works. But by golly thanks be to God that he is there now, being a great governor and an example to others. Much of his talent is good given, but training and hard work make it possible.
Other states should take note of Florida’s well developed emergency management system and improve their own emergency management agencies.
FEMA at the federal level has morphed into a political illegal immigration slush fund it should be disbanded with extreme prejudice imho.
really? Let me know when he does something about the insurance companies price gouging us for homeowners insurance pretending the hurricanes are impacting their windfall profits. Then let me know when he addressed the unaffordable housing, stagnant wages and substandard healthcare system. He is an atrocious government where it counts. As far as irritating liberals he does great. We need a bit more than that in a leader.
My Fla home is insured through a mutual insurance company, so no “windfall profits”. Perhaps you are unaware of what’s been going on in the re-insurance market. Though I suppose you could take a look at Warren Buffet as Berkshire is big in that business.
As far as FEMA, it looks like they were drafted to run the “Shelter and Services Program” set up by Congress. So Congress is where you need to go first. I can see that for a given head count at FEMA people working on SSP aren’t available to work on other things so that is an impact. It looks to me like this “Shelter and Services Program” is a way to funnel money to grifters at NGOs.
So there can be problems at FEMA, but I would look at things like what contract vehicles do they have in place for quick response? As far as budget authority, DHS/FEMA are shooting themselves in the foot by using this as an excuse to beg for a supplemental funding bill. Yes, there will be a time for that later but not now. The Pres and Director of OMB could get Johnson and Schumer on the phone today and work out a deal to reprogram funds from the continuing resolution if necessary.
Downstream this will be a hit on the NFIP, and that is already a battle over how flood insurance should be priced.
Florida shows agility and resourcefulness….what a beautiful thing!
Cooper should take notes..NC
Excellent idea! Good you, Governor!
I was thinking just the other day, and several times since, that NC and TN are gonna’ need way more than a 10 day or 90 day window for debris removal. Both are probably totally unrealistic.
He is taking care of his state.
Within 72 hours, the number of customers (households/businesses) without power dropped from 3.5 milion to 850K. I know Floridians are used to picking up the pieces after a hurricane, but this is an impressive achievement and excellent leadeship! Give credit where credit is due: nice job, Governor DeSantis.
DeSantis had absolutely nothing to do with that. Good grief
I am posting this as often as possible until it get reported…my sister has a very close friend that remains stuck in Ashville. She just contacted my sister who reported the morgue and multiple freezer trucks are full of bodies. Coroner estimates 1000 are there. No news is covering this. I believe the Dems are concealing this. I recommend you contact the county coroner for direct confirmation.
Please share with as many people as possible. There will be thousands of deaths.
Who know how many were preventable.
