Her billboards are strategically placed on roads in brown space areas driven by blue collar workers who still have jobs, despite the presence of shuttered factories, or natives in a hurry who eschew the madness of high density traffic.
A sprinkling of Trump lawn signs, banners, and flags starts to appear in the approaches to better residential neighborhoods.. My interpretation of the placement of these items—on or close to the house and up high or in the trees– is to discourage vandalism or stealing. I see few to no bumper stickers for the same reason. The few vehicles I do see with Trump signs are all trucks, driven by men most people wouldn’t pick a fight with.
I usually receive at least a couple of Trump direct mail pieces every week, ranging from letters to full color ads printed horizontally on 8.5.x.11 heavy stock. I also receive a daily barrage of dunning texts, and now voice mail messaging, the latter characterized by a notably rude delivery style, script, and tone, by someone who needs to be told, “You’re Fired!”.
A note on safety concerns. In the 55+ years I’ve lived elsewhere, this city has seen a huge influx of third world people, nearly all of whose womenfolk seem to be pregnant, with 2 to 4 toddlers in tow Except for fast trips to some 100+ years and counting family owned businesses with unique products and skills, most natives avoid these neighbor hoods. Lots of Arabic everywhere, lots of mosques, de-commissioned churches re-purposed as social service agencies, etc., etc., etc. It’s not hard to believe these folks were brought here without consensus and likely under cover of darkness..
The text message might have been a false flag. The woman was trying to brow beat me into mailing in my absentee ballot. No way is the USPA getting their hands on it. I am delivering it in person on November 5 after making sure somebody posing as me hasn’t already voted, and seeing it properly logged in and dropped into a secure receptacle.
The only TV I watch is KLTV out of Tyler, TX for my local news and weather. This week they have had the Kam ads on. I only watch from 5:00 – 5:30PM week nights. I’m so far out in the woods that my local TV station is 110 miles away. But I like it like that!

Maybe something happened – some light got through, past all the nattering nabobs of negativity (h/t Spiro Agnew or Pat Buchanan?) that surround the current President.
I confess, my Mom and I played it repeatedly, that video on youtube where President Biden was visiting in Shanksville for the 9/11 remembrance – there were many supporters of Donald Trump there and one gentleman who was sitting down was wearing a MAGA hat – through a simple and congenial conversation, it came about that the seated gentleman handed his MAGA hat to President Biden who then put it on, on top of the hat he was wearing. The room literally roared with laughter, the warm and embracing type that just fills a room, along with a thunder of applause. The look on President Biden’s face was so amazed and amazing, like someone who had been wandering through a desert through days without a drink of water, coming upon an oasis, with people helping him to take a long sweet drink of water. We thought when we saw that that God knows what he has been subjected to in confusion and trying to hold his own against all the “advisers”.
No, I know about Biden and all the things we all know that he has done and enabled but in that moment, I thought of my dear stepdad who was also afflicted with dementia . . . but at least, he could live a simple and protected existence, at home, with us, we who would let nothing happen that would scare him. Yeah, he was a tough guy back in his day and could stand up for himself and defend a dame if he saw her being picked on . . . he was the one going through the house every night when we all went to bed, he checked all the doors and lights and it was very reassuring (there were eight of us kids when they got married, four of us at home still) . . . but in the later years, he was the one needing defending and protecting.
Dad tried SO hard to keep checking the doors and the lights every night at home as he made his rounds around the house . . . instead of trying to convince him anymore that he did not need to do that, that he had already checked 9 times, I went around with him while Mom went to bed . . . or we offered him a midnight snack of a bowl of oatmeal zapped in the microwave or a plate of scrambled eggs or Stouffer’s Grandma’s Rice and Vegetable Bake (we figured out that he was actually hungry again in the middle of the night because he did not really eat enough at dinner the way he used to eat for so many years). He might forget our names but he would remember them again, later – or call me, “whatchamacallit” when he asked Mom where I was when he was looking for me in the house (when I had dashed to the grocery store).
Having been able to protect Dad and keep him at home, we felt good that we knew what was happening with him every second of every day. Just basic human decency and love is what permeates through to the heart in spite of sickness.
