Howdy Garrison! I am still Eastern Europe “enjoying “ the fruit of mindless EU regulations. For example some unelected Brussels bureaucrats decided that it will be better for the environment that the caps of the plastic bottles stay attached to the bottle. The results are caps that are much harder to open and a lot more difficult to screw back on.
Yesterday I decided to change the toilet seat. What is a quick and easy task at home turned out to be a job almost requiring a PhD. Took a friend of mine and I some time to figure out the needlessly complicated design and ended up having to do it backwards of what the instructions were. 🤣

European designs like the toilet seat or the cap on the bottle are emotion sensitive devices and will resist improper sincerity expressions. This is why you should never leave Texas. I expect that at landfall it will be a CAT III storm and be CAT II by the time the eye reaches the east coast.. Believe it or not it is supposed to peter out and become nontropical pretty quickly after it passes over Florida.

Milton is coming from a different direction than previous storms where Tampa was targeted. . The angle will shove 15 feet of water into Tampa bay. Remember I was the guy who said Irma, Charley, Ian and Irma all would not hit Tampa. Even when Gov DeSantis was saying it would ( Ian) . What you have to understand is this is like a big bulldozer in the water. Ian went in moving nne south of the bend in Fla which deflects the surge.
This is coming right at the mouth of the bay perhaps a tad south and coming from the southwest. In addition, the slightly south track ( 15 miles) is not going to make a big difference with what will be a BIG STORM.

Not a great night for me. They harvested the huge soybean field across the road from me today. That field lies west and north west of our house and predominate winds are out of WNW. So have kept the windows closed all day because of the massive amount of dust produced when they harvest those beans.

Biography: Felix Wankel is best known for inventing the Wankel engine, a type of internal combustion engine that uses a rotating triangular rotor instead of the more common piston design.

I had a coworker in 1987, in his mid 40s, who was in the process of divorcing his wife of many years. In the midst of it he bought a bright red 1987 Mazda RX7, a classic midlife crisis move.
One day three of us went out from work for lunch, he wanted to show off his new toy.
I had been in or driven several late ’60s muscle cars, big large block V-8’s or small pony cars with small block powerfully tuned V-8’s.
I was impressed by the Mazda’s rapid acceleration from any speed, and concluded that the RX7 performed as if it had more torque and power than any car I had ever been in. The car also handled curvy country roads quite impressively.
A few years later, I had changed work locations but heard thru the grapevine that my former coworker had some severe engine problems with the Mazda, and had traded it in on an ’89 model. IDK how that car / engine held up for him as he relocated to Savannah River, GA and we lost touch.
Back when I worked in dealerships, we had lots of the Mazda’s as trade ins.
Basically the “piston rings” wear out and it burns a lot of oil & may smoke out the tail pipe.
This does not really stop them from being driven but … running an engine out of oil is never a good or cheap thing if you never check/add it like most people.
Especially since they all had an oil injection system to lubricate the rings as I recall, so it is built to use some oil anyway.
We still generally put them out on the lot for sale (as is) instead of wholesaling them to the “buy here / pay here used car lot (specialists /s)
Wankel’s are a very torky & fun to drive ride, only thing that I think ever exceeded it was the GMC <Syclone’s> that came out that was a small S truck AWD with turbo 4.3 in it … at that time … it exceeded the Corvette times with the ?? C-3 ?? engine … that was the demo to our dealer principal @ the drag strip in Speedway IN.
GM took them all to the track to try it out for themselves, sold like hot cakes, Tony Hulman bought 6 of them to hand out to his staff. <envy>
Just from memory, aren’t those called “rotor seals”? A straight piece of finely machined (steel? Chromium? IDK) that was affixed to the edge of the main rotor that traversed thst weird somewhat triangular shaped chamber for each intake/ power/ exhaust cycle (revolution)?

Yes rotor seal hence the “piston ring” same purpose, to seal up the combustion chamber.
A common use of “rotor seal” is for the grease seal in brake rotors for the tapered wheel bearings which nowadays are sealed bearings with a CV joint going thru them if it is the drive axle.
Now if the new design Mazda Wankel gets approved by the EPA … is it still going to be called a rotor seal when it is installed in the block instead? LOL
Doubt I will ever know or care … too old to be bending wrenches nowadays unless it is in my own stuff.
Tho I have considered bending wrenches again, after 3 places in town have quoted me 2,500 for doing a clutch on my Subaru Outback.
Breaking it down … labor of 1 place is realistic but 300% markup on parts & they will not machine the flywheel only a new Chinese one installed.
Do I need to do a class on how to machine a flywheel for a new clutch on a Ammco brake lathe? SMH
Yes, they are obviously looking at reducing the labor but AFAIK Chinese steel has never been as good as American steel. But then IDK what stresses a flywheel is expected to withstand.
Although I have to consider, where does Subaru get their flywheels? Are they the OEM or do they buy them from China…
On a somewhat related topic, Electric Boat (formerly General Dynamics) in New London CT has a new contract and suddenly experienced auto mechanics are being scooped up and leaving automotive repair shops high and dry.
Well, at least it is subject to higher standards to make the cut for a Subaru OEM part designation.
My brother was tasked to get a different source of parts for his company when the China trend started. I don’t know if it was his idea or someone else on the team but China agreed to reimburse the company for all the part failures that were under warranty …. BIG mistake.
China paid the company almost as much for their warranty part failures as what the parts were purchased for from China. DOH
As far as I know, they are still sourced from China, I would think that quality improved if China wished to make money.
As for mechanics being scooped up IDK, been outta any professional repairing for 14 years now.
Most of the Master ASE mechanics in all of the Indianapolis shops across town got out of the automotive shops when I did …. I went to forklifts … I took 3 other master mechanics into the forklift business from my dealership over 2ish years time.
Only one of which went back to cars … but it was a 1 man shop that went to 2 with him & was 50 – 50 ….. GM policy was for dealers was cut to 85 – 15 of door rate.
What that does is forces mechanics to become thieves as we have always been paid by flat rate (piece meal) not hourly. So you have guys that sell you on say a brake job (that you do not need), they might slap pads on your rotors without machining them but get fully paid for doing it. Most customers will never know … even if you request old parts as some places suggest … those guys have lots of old parts to give back to you … just not off your car.
If Electric Boat is paying a big enough hourly wage for similar skills … word will get around quick, even my best friend (the one who went back to cars) and I tried to get into the Chrysler foundry to work on forklifts (at the time (mid 90’s) yearly pay with bonuses was more that 100$ an hour) but the foundry was shuttered a few years later & demolished to empty lot.
I have a local honest auto mechanic shop that has been very reliable, and we have let them know our appreciation for their honesty. More than once they have called us to advise against replacing a part/ parts that I thought were due and was ready to purchase. And they also have charged less than what they estimated many times. They have a loyal customer base as a result of their integrity.
The automotive shop in Groton that my daughter uses is of the same caliber, and that shop owner lost 2 mechanics to EB’s recruitment spree. He is probably going to be forced to raise rates to pay the salaries necessary to hire replacement, quality mechanics.
The EB jobs are mostly heavy welding; submarine construction-related. My guess is that those jobs will only last as long as ship production – per the DOD / Navy contract terms, which always have deliverable dates. Hourly wage / production jobs with defense contractors are generally always cyclical. But the pay is attractive in a NE state where costs of living are absurdly high due to long time corrupt state & local governments.
Sorry this may be a bit disjointed in answers.
Ya get it while you can … and when it ends … as a ASE certified master …. you are the proverbial 800 pound gorilla …. you can go anywhere and get a seat … last I knew there were only 10,000 of them, less than 1,000 dual heavy truck & auto masters … been years since I looked.
Lots of techs can get one ASE certification, we called it the badge of mediocrity with all the newbies we hired in my last auto shop having 1.
One of the things that was a deciding factor in leaving car biz (again/ the last time ever) was when they asked me to take the L2 drivability ASE test, why? … I don’t do / allowed to do drivability ….. our drivability guys have each taken it 6 times (150+ bucks a pop) and failed.
I said OK… but it will cost you 1K when I pass it (in writing) …. they declined … was waiting for them to ask again the next year … it woulda been 2K then but our dealership got sold to the Pontiac dealer as GM wanted all dealerships to consolidate lines .. Buick/Pontiac/GMC …. Chevy / Cadillac.
I went back to the forklift biz that one of the mechanics cherry picked (my first forklift employer) the good customers from the one that went bankrupt with a salesman owner that was clueless about repair work.
Most mechanics are not certified welders though, but with a bit of training most could do it…. I asked several times to be sent to GM’s welding classes …. they never told me no…. they just never sent me, still I could weld decently, it just did not look pretty .. hidden anyway by spray undercoating.
There must me more to it than welding … you don’t look/hire guys that have the space relations & understand complex interactions of moving parts … esp nowadays with electronic controls on everything.
It’s good to have someone trustworthy to fix your stuff, glad I can fix my own stuff, mobile HVAC works the same on A/C current as it does on DC on a car for my restaurant equipment & plenty of aftermarket parts off Amazon at a realistic price.
My brother consults with me via phone still on a few things, his youngest son is a part time race car driver & fixes his own stuff as a Utube mechanic … tried to get him to the forklift biz & told him my friends that are still in forklifts that a bounty is on his head if he gets hired & stays for 90 days or so… guess he is too scared to try. 1K bounty for the referral.
Average age for forklift mechs ~upper 50’s, & lots ready to retire due to hitting 62+.
I think they are forcing retirement to one friend, he’s 10 years older than I … ~67.
I worked for 6 years as a supervisor in a packaging & shipping department for the defense contractor.
We had a medium duty forklift, used to lift bundles of lumber into our bulk racks for storage, and also to lift heavy cabinets full of electronic test equipment that was made at our location. We also used it to lift the crates that we built around the test eqpt., and move them onto trucks for shipment to military bases.
The forklift seemed to need repairs every year or two; it was a vital tool we couldn’t operate without.
Ours was what we called a sidewinder – the forks could be moved left or right of center to lift awkward or ofd shaped items or to move them in tight spaces where the fork truck couldn’t turn or move sideways. You know what I’m talking about. It was electric (rechargeable battery) powered and much more complex and costly than a std. fork truck.
Rentals were never optimum and would often have issues themselves.
I can very easily understand how lucrative thst business can be if you’re in an area with a lot of mfg. and/or warehouse businesses.
Bingo … a Sideloader probably 72 volts (2 36v bats) generally either a Raymond or a German based one they had 2 companies making sideloaders.
That’s why I really liked the forklift business, they were ecstatic see you show up and fix their stuff no matter the cost … cars …. heh … my car broke …. its HOW MUCH!!?? … LOL
Statistically, a forklift that isn’t moving product due to breakdown is 1,000 bucks or more per hour in loss to company.
Yep. Down time=$$$$$.
We had a backup: our local minority-owned moving & storage company had two forklifts and two qualified drivers. They took jobs with other customers that sometimes required a lift truck & operator.
When our sidewinder broke down they’d rent us a regular lift minus the driver at about half the rate that other rental companies charged. That worked unless they had both lifts in active service on other jobs whereby we had to go to a much costlier rental company. Ouch, but…the show must go on..

Was Milton not only artificially created out of (literally) “thin air” (approaching the Yucatan peninsula), but also was it re-directed northeastward and intensified by artificial means? Our government has the technology & equipment to do all – create, steer, and intensify. They ALSO know how to reduce an existing hurricane’s strength. but that has proven more difficult than intensifying it. IOW, once created, the monster doesn’t like giving up….

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

My Lord. I cannot understand how anyone with morals or claiming to be Christian could work for or patronize any of these three corporations.

This morning is the best in 8 days. Coughing much reduced. Sore throat much better. Green cast to sputum almost gone. Done with the Musilex.
Did the 3 Ss, badly needed. Went out and walked with Steve as he walked Cooper the Beagle in the back field. The longest I have walked in 8 days. The weather and sun were delicious.
Breakfast is Fruit salad. Cantaloupe, Honey Dew Melon, Watermelon, Pineapple, Strawberries, white grapes, and red grapes with a small banana cut up over it all. Excellent. Have baked chicken to work on later and home made Cole Slaw to go with it.
Life is worth living again!

There is a story on Citizen Free Press about a pup who was tied to a post and left to die off I 75 in Florida. By the time this sweet dog was rescued by a Florida State Trooper, the water was up to his chest. He was scared and barking, but that Trooper persevered. ❤️ 😢 🐕

Never experienced a hurricane before in my part of the world. Anything above 55 mph and we think the roof could blow off – can’t begin to imagine 160 mph winds. Must be an absolute nightmare. Of course the nummies will bow to their “religion” that teaches them (poor souls) that it’s all because of global warming, and hence our fault – thus the obligatory indulgences due by us, in the form of “tax everything more.” Nonsense naturally, but there are many lessons to be learned here in the way we as humans interact with nature, or rather fail to integrate with nature. Much of the destruction and loss IS a result of our greed – forgetting that we are PART of, and must live in harmony WITH what God has provided us. Our thoughts go out on the wings of the Eagles – 3 flights.
I’m unsure which is worse, a hurricane or an earthquake.
Not having personally experienced either, both appear rather terrifying
