Since the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act was signed after the onset of the Great Depression, it could not have caused the economic downturn. At most, critics claim it worsened the Depression—yet this claim is unsubstantiated.
Impact on Trade After Smoot-Hawley
U.S. imports dropped from $5.3 billion in 1929 (4.2% of GDP) to $1.7 billion in 1933, while exports declined from $4.4 billion (5% of GDP) to $1.5 billion in the same period. However, foreign trade represented only a small fraction of the U.S. economy during 1929–1933. Notably, the U.S. trade deficit actually improved, shrinking from $900 million to $200 million. In other words, the U.S. was losing less money after Smoot-Hawley. UAVs come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes. For those we first started seeing (essentially very large RC planes) missiles are more than adequate. These newer, smaller ones are more of a problem unsuitable for missiles as it would be more like shooting at a swarm of bees with a .22 rifle. Not really effective.

This is unsurprising. VERY Sad that my ship, CVN-69, participated in this failing attempt. I have ZERO doubt, however, that this current administration ordered them to NOT do the things they wanted to do and likely even reduced their supplies deliveries.
The threat of UAVs of a wide range of configurations are the primary, low cost, most damaging and the least likely to lead attackers to their own death.

The A10 equipped with very strong guidance and targeting systems could probably do a better job than US Navy fighter jets against UAVs depending on their configuration. I also know there are still other anti-UAV tactics and weapons for both destruction and capture operations in development and testing.
Are we completely ready for the 21st century warfare? It “looks like” no, we are not. But the tech is there and we know our military is being intentionally weakened.
If any of these weapons are found flying over the US? May those who have weakened our defenses be hanged by the neck until they are dead.
Admiral Miguez’s (USS Eisenhower) candid comments suggest that in real life, commanders are very concerned about missile and drone attack, even by cheap systems used by Houthis.
Bottom line is that aircraft carriers are likely very vulnerable. US should invest in less expensive platforms suitable for the era of smart missiles and drones.
If the cheap missiles and drones used by the Houthis caused this much stress and risk for the USS Eisenhower and its battle group, what will happen when they have to face state of the art ballistic and cruise missiles fielded by peer competitors like Russia and China, or even Iran?
Wargames in N. Atlantic or W. Pacific these days feature USN carriers fleeing the scene to avoid being sunk. I believe the situation at this moment is that Russian/Chinese antiship missiles outrange US weapons.
Or imagine the Russians/Iranians give the Houthis actual state of the art missiles/drones and targeting coordinates. This is a possible tit for tat response to UKR long range missile attack (NATO hardware) vs Russian targets.

War ships are not being used as they should be in today’s warfare for sure. A war ship should never be within range of anything the enemy has. The smaller craft need to have anti-drone countermeasures in place not limited to mini-CWZ and flak cannons. The strength of a carrier group (what we called it when I was on the Eisenhower… so you can guess when I was there) lies in how far they can see. Every member of the group expands the radar picture and is able to track an incredible number of targets often with triangulated accuracy to form a complete and 3 dimensional map of everything going on.
The ability to launch attacks is important, but in the case of defense, it’s even more important.
They have the ability to use that to create a floating “iron dome” if they were so inclined. Care to guess why they wouldn’t? (and I’m not saying they aren’t…)

So yeah…if they use the classical tactics, you can expect a lot of loss. Failure to adapt will always go that way.

DHS designates Electoral College vote count as special national security event
Homeland Security on Wednesday officially designated the Electoral College vote count and certification as a special national security event, putting the U.S. Secret Service in charge of security surrounding the process. The move comes in response to the 2021 count, which saw a mob storm the Capitol to try to head off the count that certified President Biden as the winner over former President Donald Trump.
The vote counting joins other major events such as the national nominating conventions, presidential inaugurations and the president’s annual State of the Union address. But this is the first time the Electoral College counting and certification has been designated. The move is largely of bureaucratic significance, putting one federal agency in charge of forging and carrying out a security plan that’s followed by other federal, state and local agencies.
“The U.S. Secret Service, in collaboration with our federal, state, and local partners are committed to developing and implementing a comprehensive and integrated security plan to ensure the safety and security of this event and its participants,” said Eric Ranaghan, special agent in charge of the Secret Service’s Dignitary Protective Division.

I’m on well water. I installed a sub-panel to my main breaker that I can plug a generator into. It will power my well and a few circuits. I also installed a small off grid solar power system that can also plug into the sub-panel and do what the generator does.
Very recently I had a $14.00 electrical component go out in my well’s control box. I bought a new box and a spare component. It was a weak link in my home’s emergency preparation that I had never thought of. I’m glad it happened now and not in the winter when ice storms knock the power grid down for days.

Biden will not, nor will she if elected. Muir mocked Trump’s reference to Springfield, Ohio’s 20k Haitians as if it were not true; this was Candy Crowley-style debate interference; it is true.
Neither she nor Biden ever called the families of the thirteen killed in Afghanistan on their watch, nor have they ever reached out to the families who have lost loved ones to the mounting numbers killed by illegal migrants. They want the millions of illegals to come to guarantee their permanent power and do not care what havoc they cause American citizens.
Perhaps the “event” that most revealed the character of Kamala Harris was her despicable treatment of Brett Kavanaugh during the made-up-out-of-whole-cloth phony accusation from Christine Blasey-Ford harking back to high school. Harris treated this fine jurist like a criminal without an iota of proof. Her behavior was exactly like Biden’s when he sought to humiliate the great Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearing. The two of them, Biden and Harris, are soulless, empty people, easily corrupted, and who lie whenever it serves them well. Those who bought her utterly fake performance in the debate as successful and choose to vote for her are a serious threat to the country. If she were to become president,

Retired Magistrate here: I just got back from getting my hair done. My stylist has family who lives in Springfield; they have lived there for years. Family members told my stylist that it is as bad or worse than is being portrayed by the alternate media. Housing prices have skyrocketed so the average Springfield resident cannot afford to buy or rent a place to live, traffic accidents abound caused by the Haitians reckless driving and yes, the Haitians are going to the local park, catching ducks and geese, breaking their necks, plucking them and taking them home to eat.
People are scared and no one is doing anything about it. I asked my stylist if her family members intend to stay in Springfield; she stated yes, because they were born there and it is home. However, if it gets much worse they will leave. And that folks is how the illegals are taking over the U.S.; by approval of the government: federal, state and local.
And that is how everyday Americans will end up fighting the foreigners to protect their children, homes, pets and property.
That is why even a century ago Americans would run groups of Chinese out of town when the showed up.
They knew the foreigners would take their jobs by undercutting them.
They knew the foreigners would bring crime and degrade their society with prostitution and opium dens.
They knew the foreigners did not have the same morals or faith.
