No, the issue is the unique and special position of trust he held when he decided to walk away from his soldiers, his unit, and his nation. I’ll explain.
So Walz retired when he was allowed to and ran for Congress instead — what’s the big deal, right? Well, had Walz been some slug E-8 holding down some clerical job in the 34th Infantry Division Headquarters, counting his days until retirement, and had he opted to take a lawful retirement rather than go to Iraq, no one would care. But that’s not what happened. Walz was a COMMAND SERGEANT MAJOR (“CSM”), and that makes all the difference in the world.
A CSM is the senior NCO in an Army battalion. He is the battalion commander’s most trusted adviser. He is the standard-setter for every other NCO and junior enlisted soldier in that battalion. All eyes are on him. He is as close to a god on Earth as a soldier could ever be. The rank and position of a CSM are exceptionally hard to attain – very few NCOs ever make it.
NO ONE is more important than your CSM. So yeah — I understand the impact of Walz’s cowardice better than almost all of the other people on this planet.
Someone asked me in good faith whether or not Walz simply left one kind of service for a higher level of service in Congress. I thought long and hard about an appropriate analogy as an answer to that question and finally came up with one: What Walz did is the moral equivalent of a mother dropping off her five preteen children at an orphanage in the dead of night so she could run for Congress. Yes, it’s that bad.

I feel the same as you. If people have never had this type of injury, they cannot understand how painful it can be just to get out of bed and take that first step.
From what my foot doctor told me bone spurs are a result of neglecting a planter fasciitis injury. He said it is the inflamed tendon constantly rubbing on the foot bone. He described it like a callous on hard working hands. He also told me that fifty percent of planter fasciitis injuries occur in car accidents where you jam the arch of your foot down on the brake pedal causing the muscles and tendon in the foot to lock.
He was a little concerned because I ignored it for years and the inflammation was so bad he was afraid it would rupture so instead of doing the therapy exercises my doctor gave me a series of three cortisone injections in my heel. When that medicine entered my foot, it burned bad. I had ten years relief. Ten years later it came back, and he gave me another series of three cortisone injections and told me I could have no more. It would be surgery. I am glad to hear you have gotten relief.

My GP ran blood tests a week later and discovered a B12 deficiency, which likely caused the attack. Easily corrected.

My 1st full time job was in a plywood mill and while the vacillating IWA bullied its own workers at times, the Health & Safety assistance the Union provided saved lives and prevented serious injuries. But even that assistance did not prevent 3 brutal deaths over the 3 years I worked there. One newlywed who had just returned to work, died when his head was crushed under a panel press and another died when his arm, shoulder etc was ripped off by a Green Chain chipper. In both cases, prior to the deaths a foreman was angrily scolding the employee due to lost production. (Lockout procedures were not acceptable and Master Stop buttons were not installed then) Lunch and 10 min. coffee breaks were stop watched by your area’s foreman.
I could go on & on but the point is Unions and even strikes had legitimate & grateful roles in worker’s lives when I worked in those early production jobs and even beyond. But in my experience times changed-besides ensuing I had skills that were in demand-most companies were wiser and treated their workers with respect etc. I would be a hypocrite if I didn’t admit I participated in a few strikes, including wildcats-early in my work life but they all involved safety etc.
Something to watch out for with increasing fascism and corporations running government is increasing impotency in enforcement. Workers will be on their own if they don’t cooperate, either via ad-hoc work groups or union representation.
I saw the gamut in the 70’s in oil and gas and agriculture. Happy to still be vertical and have all my appendages. You can guess what I was exposed to in those industries. We still have a few plywood plants where I live now, though lumbering has largely died in Oregon. Tough work.

My 1st day in the Plywood mill was disturbing when I noticed several of the older employees were missing fingers. The mill had several long bladed dry clippers that occasionally became blocked. My 1st instructions were-“Never put your fingers under the blade. Always use a piece of wood to clear the blockage.” I had bad dreams for a few days about forgetting his instructions.
Unfortunately, a young worker of my age lost the top of 3 fingers just above the length of his “little finger.” A company rep convinced him to return to work early even though his hand was still bandaged. He was told he would only do very light work. It was a con as he was laid off after a couple of days. I never knew how he made out after that.
Note to above– According to the IWA Contract with the Forest company; employees could be laid off or fired without any Union support like a Grievance objection and so on during their initial probation period of 3 months. The young fellow had worked less than that time so he was easily discarded. Making some occupations decent and safe was a hard struggle at times in some industries.
I would just comment that not all union jobs are inherently unsafe.
I don’t begrudge workers in dangerous industries the right to fight for workplace safety. I thought that was the reason for OSHA.
I doubt that Trump was talking about strikes over safety. Most of the shop closures come when the successful strikes raise wages and benefits beyond what the company can sustain.

Each decade was different. Reasonable early demands for a livable wage and safe job conditions etc. were often followed by ludicrous demands by some of the more radical and politicized unions and the affected companies that could move, would move.
Some employers were brutal to their powerless employees and later some well paid and well treated lefty union employees hated capitalism and the companies even though the company’s investment provided them with a good job. Harris will be forced to make her case in her own words. My guess is that voters will be shocked by her inadequate communication skills.

5th Circuit: Dragnet Warrants Unconstitutional-
The Fifth Circuit, the court that found geofence warrants to be unconstitutional, fields cases from Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. It issued the landmark ruling in connection with a case called United States v. Smith that focused on the 2018 armed robbery of a U.S. Postal Service truck. Police used a geofence warrant to identify the suspects.
The Fifth Court found that geofence warrants are general warrants, which place almost no limitations on the search or arresting authority of law enforcement officials. General warrants are prohibited under the Fourth Amendment. One of the considerations that factored into the judges’ decision was the large amount of personal data police sift through when examining location data from Google.
The search giant associates the location data it collects from a user’s smartphone with a so-called device ID, an identifier unique to that handset. Geofence warrants compel Google to hand over all the device IDs that appeared in a given location around the time a crime was committed. The warrant issued in the United States v. Smith case covered an approximately 0.3-square-mile area around a post office.
The initial dataset of device IDs that Google hands over to authorities is anonymized. Law enforcement officials can ask the search giant to provide “additional de-identified location information for a certain device to determine whether that device is actually relevant to the investigation,” the Fifth Circuit’s ruling detailed. If relevance is established, officials may request the names of the device’s users and their email addresses.
“Geofence warrants effectively ‘work in reverse’ from traditional search warrants,” the Fifth Court’s ruling stated. “This court cannot forgive the requirements of the Fourth Amendment in the name of law enforcement.” The decision tentatively makes the use of geofence warrants unlawful in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
Digital rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation welcomed the ruling in a statement. “EFF applauds this decision because it is essential that every person feels like they can simply take their cell phone out into the world without the fear that they might end up a criminal suspect because their location data was swept up in an open-ended digital dragnet,” the group stated.

I went out of town today and took a different route than usual. On the way, I passed a house whose residents were obviously giddy and avid supporters of Kamala Harris. There must have been 20 flags, 30-40 yard signs covering the small front yard. To me, the most disturbing signs were the ones that said “Christians for Harris”.
How can one be a follower of Christ – a believer in the Bible who can cheer on the Democrat agenda of abortion until birth, consenting to pedophilia, the trans agenda for children, forever wars, criminal illegals?
