I forget the family name but the Dixie Crystals heiress owned a plantation-equestrian facility years ago…the developers where after it big time…I rode there a few times, it was peaceful and first class…for the times…early 80’s.
Your horse-riding place sounds very cool, Aggiegirl! 🙂 The one I visited in GA was a Bed & Breakfast ranch where they kept older horses and let them live out their lives in peace rather than send them off to the glue factory when they were too old for trail riding. If you dared, you could go inside the fence with them at your own risk and get pretty close to some. Others, you stayed near the fence for a quick exit if need be.

The female Olympic boxers wear 10 oz gloves. Men wear 10s or 12s depending on weight. Not much padding, not much weight to slow things down. Even with headgear, a headshot can rattle a boxer’s brain. Most nurses are women…and every hospital and corporate type health care organization that relates to the performance of patient care stipulates in the job description for applicants applying that one must be able to physically do the job…some times saying ‘must be able to lift 50 pounds’….the lingo varies but well, all y’all understand.

This is the DEI/affirmative action/ “equitable result” problem.
We just had a near-tragic outcome on July 13, contributed to, at least in part, by DEI policies.
Without a blush or a bit of insight, seems like too many are decrying the negatives of having a size-matched woman boxing a man, without taking the thinking further to the far more important issues, which are not sports/playing/games, but, the insanity of pushing for “equitable” percentages of e.g. women Secret Service Agents or police officers or military combat. (Although I notice that feminists aren’t clamoring for more women to be mud loggers or lumberjacks.)
It can’t be both ways.
Here we have a near-perfect test of the equality idea: can’t complain that a 5’4″ woman is up against a 6′ man, or rationalize that it’s merely a size difference. Can’t pretend that it’s about training, or finding the few women who are really good, because this is the Olympics.
But even more, here we have a guy with apparently 5-alpha reductase deficiency or similar birth defect who, like Brittney Griner, thought through childhood (until somewhere post-puberty, at least) that he was a girl , as did everyone else around — so the excuse of “socialization” (see swimeasy’s comment) is proved to be nonsense.
While I most assuredly would not want men in my grandaughters’ lockerrooms, let alone to get punched in the face by one (or, actually, by anyone, this woman boxing thing is nuts), I also see a silver lining here.
I am fine with absolutely equal opportunity. I am fine with making sure that standards for jobs (Aggiegirl’s pointing out a weightlifting minimum, e.g.) are reasonable and bona fide job requirements.
But I am NOT on board with the push for an artificial “equity”. And I see a good opportunity here to undercut the nonsense.
Aside, re those weightlifting requirements. Back in the 80s, I was GC for one company that had to fight off the EEOC regarding its loading dock requirements, and also that it paid these employees more than what the feminists alleged was comparable work (filing cabinet clerks). (We won.) Among the evidence that came out was that there were many women who could lift boxes of 50 pounds. But there were none we could find who could do it over and over and over again all day in the summer heat.

My dad used to watch boxing on tv when I was a kid. He would get really involved with the televised fight, moving his head to avoid an incoming jab, lifting his hands up like he was ready to fight. He really loved watching boxing and probably was involved in a few fights as a kid.
But me? Never interested in boxing at all. And although I like sports and participated in sports, boxing is an unusual choice for female athletes, imo.
It is a dangerous sport as well if you fail to train well enough to protect yourself.

Now, it’s listed last name first, so would be RC. I want you to note how many times, how much each donation, total in the year AND who/what it was donated to.
Then I want your take on what you see. No, I don’t know what it means or I’m not blaming someone. It’s right there for all to see. I want this to be independent inquiry with independent results.

On another note, Sept.6 is the start of voting for the Nov. election. That is ridiculous. 2 full months before the real Election Day. I suppose it still will be ok to count ballots found three weeks after Election Day too. Madness.
Exactly, we need to make Election Day a holiday. Heck, make it a 4-day weekend in order to prepare for the holiday season: Thanksgiving and Christmas.
No early voting and absentee ballots for persons (government employees) on temporary assignment outside of the US. You don’t get to early vote or get an absentee ballot is you’re going to be on a cruise, skiing, traveling Europe, etc. Being home on the first Tuesday of November once every two years is not much to ask.
We’ve been doing mail in for years. Semi small county, have to re verify after every major election year, check signature and address. Can check status of your ballot online. Works great.

I am on the list as having requested early ballot, I KNOW when its mailed, when to expect to see it in my mailbox, and when to call if I haven’t and request another.
I fill it out promptly, seal and sign it, and habd deliver it to the County Recorders office or an early, in person voting location, where I show my I.D.
Hence, they can not pull “sharpiegate”, or broken machines on election day, or even the changed zip code, request ballot in my name trick.
I figure me n mine are doing everything we can to insure our vote is counted.
Here is a thought: Paper Ballots only counted by real people with an equal number of party affiliations counting. Ballots received after Election Day are not eligible to be counted. Results reported the same day as election.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed to Fox News Digital that “out of an abundance of caution” it has temporarily paused the issuing of advance travel authorizations for the program — which allows up to 30,000 nationals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela (CHNV) to travel into the U.S. each month and enter legally under the administration’s use of parole if they meet certain conditions.
A congressional source had told Fox News Digital the pause came in mid-July after an internal report unearthed large amounts of fraud in applications for those sponsoring the applicants. DHS said the pause was occurring as it reviewed sponsor applications.
The internal report found that forms from those applying for the program included social security numbers, addresses and phone numbers being used hundreds of times in some cases.
Parts of the report shared with Fox News Digital by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), a conservative immigration group, showed that 100,948 forms were filled out by 3,218 serial sponsors — those whose number appears on 20 or more forms.
It also found that 24 of the 1,000 most used numbers belonged to a dead person. Meanwhile, 100 physical addresses were used between 124 and 739 times on over 19,000 forms. Those addresses included storage units. One sponsor phone number was submitted on over 2,000 forms, and there were 2,839 forms with non-existent sponsor zip codes, according to the leak.

“Trump Jan. 6 case to resume after presidential immunity ruling.
Former President Donald Trump’s election interference case is set to resume as early as Friday in Washington, D.C., after sitting dormant for months while the Supreme Court mulled presidential immunity.
The case’s anticipated revival could pave the way for dramatic pre-trial court proceedings in the coming months, serving as the only remaining case out of Trump’s four criminal prosecutions to see significant activity ahead of the presidential election.
The Supreme Court issued its decision on presidential immunity on July 1, and the high court’s order, known as a “mandate,” will be turned over to presiding Judge Tanya Chutkan on Friday.
Chutkan, an Obama appointee, will probably not hold any hearings immediately, but the judge will likely provide expectations about what will come next through a scheduling update on Friday or in the coming days, according to legal experts.
The Defend Democracy Project, a group comprising Trump legal critics, said in a statement that Chutkan’s next moves could lead to a “mini-trial,” which would involve a series of court hearings in which special counsel Jack Smith and Trump’s defense team closely examine and argue over actions in the former president’s indictment.
“Whatever Judge Chutkan does on Friday opens the door for a possible mini trial around Trump’s participation in the attack on our country on January 6, 2021,” the Defend Democracy Project said.
The Supreme Court ruled in its landmark decision on immunity that actions presidents perform as part of their official job duties are protected from criminal prosecution. The high court said certain actions in Smith’s indictment, such as Trump’s communications with his Department of Justice, are therefore off-limits from being used against Trump.
The Supreme Court did not spell out every action of a president that is immune from prosecution, however, and instead ordered the lower court to sort through Trump’s indictment to determine what items in it are no longer in alignment with the immunity decision.
The ruling was a massive blow to Smith, and it may force Smith in the coming months to excise key parts of his indictment and dramatically weaken his charges against Trump. It also almost certainly postponed any full trial until after the presidential election, especially given that any decisions reached during the pretrial phase would open an opportunity for Trump to pursue drawn-out appeals to the decisions.
But a silver lining for Smith and those hoping to see Trump stand trial is the prospect of forthcoming hearings that could shine a spotlight on Trump’s behavior in the aftermath of the 2020 election.
Trump at the time spread unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud and engaged in several unsuccessful legal battles as he attempted to overturn his election loss. In Smith’s view, Trump also allegedly made illegal attempts to change the election results and incited the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, said Smith has been “very motivated” and Chutkan has seemed inclined to move the case on a “rocket docket” to hold a full trial before the election. It is unfeasible to maintain that pace now, Turley said.
“Pre-trial motions already presented a considerable challenge,” Turley told the Washington Examiner. “[Chutkan] will now have to review the charges and evidence under the standard set forth by the Supreme Court. The problem with pulling out the stops for a pre-election trial is that Judge Chutkan created little record on these issues.”
The potential mini-trial that some, such as the Defend Democracy Project, are anticipating would not produce a verdict, but it would allow for witnesses and a review of evidence, similar to what is presented during a full trial.
“Make no mistake: This isn’t the full trial Americans deserve,” the Defend Democracy Project said. “A mini trial, however, could still provide extremely helpful information for the public — and outline Trump’s alleged crimes to the American people.”
Trump’s other three criminal cases will stay largely inactive ahead of the election, meaning Smith’s case in Washington, D.C., is currently Trump’s only major legal hurdle before November.
Trump is still set to face sentencing in New York in September for his hush money conviction, but the trial phase is over and Trump is raising several challenges to the verdict. In Florida, the classified documents case was dismissed and Smith is now working on filing an appeal, which in itself can be a monthslong process. Finally, in Fulton, County, Georgia, the next movement in that case is not scheduled until December, when the state’s appellate court hears arguments over whether District Attorney Fani Willis should be disqualified.”
