God morning, again! I am compelled to share something with you. (Aren’t I… always? LOL)
In a book I was reading, it discussed the practice of writing a letter to yourself from God. Don’t think – just do. Grab a pen and pad of paper, pray to God, clear your mind of all thoughts, and then stop… and listen. Write down what He says to you in your mind.
It is a new practice for me, something I’ve maybe done half dozen times now. When God speaks, it is not audible so someone else can hear it. It is an inclination. Sometimes it can be rather specific and I’ve learned to not question, just do, just go, just GO! This practice has never served me wrong and very often when I am led in The Spirit so to speak… I have never regretted the “just GO” part. It has led me to approach strangers and randomly begin conversations with them and it has blessed us both in the camaraderie.
God will always reveal Himself to us. Always. Give it a try. It can soothe anxious souls and those seeking answers. Here’s my letter from this morning:
“Dear (JWoo),
I Am The Lord your God and none come to The Father but through Me! I Am He Who gives and takes away. The Alpha and the Omega, beginning and end. I determine the end of your days and I still have use for you. I know it feels as though you are just a pawn, but you are important to me. I need you to do My Will.
I want you to have a strong and productive life. It may not be every comfort you could wish for, but the day is coming when you will have to ask no more!

The little fur balls had worked their way into one of our couches and was crawling up the side of it from the inside. (Yikes!) We were sure to smash one if we accidentally sat the wrong way. Spent the evening turning the couch upside down and replacing the paneling underneath. Fortunately had a nice bed sheet that was same color and used it doubled up as a thick panel for the underside. Yay for staple guns!

Kiddo found her baby book, so we were reminiscing those 18 years ago. The cloud data storage will never replace the tactile luxury of a baby book or photo album. She started to drag out all the photo albums, but I had to call a time out as it was 11 pm and this girl needs to get to bed.
Thank God tomorrow is Friday.
Camping next weekend. Preparing all the gear. Can’t wait. I need stars and camp fire in my life. Kiddo wants to take the really BIG tent. I don’t think it fits in our car! One of the downfalls of home delivery… one doesn’t get to test if it fits in the car… even with seats down. Lol.

The article does a good job of laying out the ramifications of that raid but I would add one other note.
Later in the war Major General Curtis LeMay then commanding the 21st Bomber Command of B-29s in the Marianas was of course fully aware of disaster the low level Ploiesti raid had been. But despite that he made the decision, against the advise of all of his staff, to have the B-29s go in at low level at night to fire bomb Tokyo. The raid, carried out March 9-10, 1945 turned out to be the deadliest air raid in history, destroying 16 square miles of the city killing 80,000 and leaving another 1 million homeless. The same mission profile would be used again and again to reduce 50% or more of several of Japans largest cities to ash.
Because of that previous intimate understanding of risks, I contend that Le May’s decision was one of greatest profiles in courage of an American commander in US history.

I’ve told you before my dad was a B29 mechanic on Tinian (also India and North Africa) and he loved that man. Always said – he had guts!
The B-29 was by far the most complex machine mass produced up to that time. Each aircraft had 40,540 parts and required a million rivets. The 18 cylinder Wright R-3350 Duplex-Cyclone engine the most complex engine produced during the war. It took 9,000 machine cutting tools to produce an engine. Due to the bugs in such a complex piece of machinery there were 1,000s of modifications made before the first wartime production engine left the assembly line and there were 1,000s more made over the course of the war. Many modifications had to be applied in the field by the maintenance crews.
Crews working day and night to get their aircraft ready for the next operation under very difficult conditions. During the dry season the dust from the coral runways was a constant blown by the winds coming off the nearby ocean. The men had to work wearing googles in the sun in temperatures of 90 deg. or more. That dust also caused problems with not just the aircraft but with the machinery needed to work on the aircraft. During the wet season they worked in rain and it got so humid that about everything that could mildew did. And it would bring a near biblical plague of frogs. Sleep was not an option when their particular aircraft was not ready to go.
They lived in tents with wooden floors until temporary buildings could be erected which they did themselves from kits. In the latrine the guy sitting next to them could read whatever a guy was reading. Permanent showers did not exist. If lucky they got a water truck with a sprayer or the had a trough to was up in. But many a whores bath and shave was taken with cold water out of a helmet.
To get a cold beer they would load cases into the unheated portion of an aircraft being test flown that would go to high altitude to get the beer cold. Enlisted men did not have a hard liquor ration as the officers did and so they distilled their own.
When their aircraft left on a mission they waited for it’s return. Looking for their bird as the aircraft landed. Then the pilot would fill out a form and brief the crew chief of any problems and they would go to work and not stop until the aircraft was once again deemed serviceable or in the case of an engine change, ready to be flown with slow time to break in the new engine(s).
And then, they may get a break if it was a while till the next mission.
My dad gave me almost that same description. He stayed with “his” plane wherever it went because of the very complexity and difficulties you enumerated.
Dad always said that the pilots of his plane were so appreciative of the mechanics, they often shared their ration of hard liquor with them
And, they did indeed, often stay up overnight to replace the engines that were notoriously unreliable at first.
Also they would dig a large hole, pile in the beer, and light it up! When the flames were out, the beer was cooler, not cold.
In India, he and his friends would take a bus out to a smaller more rural area to have a drink because the enemy had adulterated with poison the alcohol they thought GIs would drink.
On Tinian, the Japanese still held fully one third of the island and shot at them throughout the night, so they carried a .45 on their hips while working.
They were dedicated guys: most younger than your average college student. God Bless Them.

My cousin, Buck Hodgeson, was a B-24 co-pilot on the Ploesti raid. They flew out of North Africa and had some ground fire damage but felt they had hit their assigned target. During a family gathers years later, I asked him to talk about it and he shared a secret. After the raid, which he described as the most scary flying he had ever done, they had become separated from their group and were very concerned about the solo flight back to North Africa and German fighters, the crew decided to turn west and fly to Switzerland, knowing that if US pilots landed there there, their were “interned for the duration” in a hotel, at U.S. expense and on full pay, including flight pay even though grounded. They turned west and after about 20 minutes the ball turret gunner came on the intercom and announced “bandits”, setting the entire aircraft on edge, followed a few moments later by “d–n skipper, they are ours” P-51s out of Sicily asking if they needed directions? Needless to say they were grateful for a bit of fighter protection, but he confessded, hotel food and soft beds with a bathroom was a dream far better than tents and the mess hall they went back to. He ended the war with two Bronze Stars and never spoke of it again.

A friend told me a WWII war story. He was a bombardier on a B24 on the Ploiesti raid. When I told him I knew how tough that fight had to have been, he said it was less so for him. There was a high level group of B24’s that he was in. He said the high level bombing run made all the difference.

HE GOT A RELEASE DATE! Billy should be released this Wednesday, July 24th. He will be going to a halfway house, we are not sure how long he will be in one but are ecstatic that he will be out. It has been a long 3+ years. He is over the moon excited to see and spend time with his wife, kids and grandkids. Also, to get back to doing normal stuff, eating normal food, and feeling like a normal guy again.
We have been trying to find a place of his own with no success so far, any donations would help dramatically and be so appreciated through this transition as we are preparing for him to come home. We are still stuck with lots of storage bills for all his things.
Thank you to everyone who has kept us in their prayers, thoughts, and people who have donated. You all have made this time a little easier for his family and him. I will update when we know more.

This is sort of tech related but also ties into real estate, & I just want to sound the alarm somewhere…
So recently looking at rental property in SW FL. Most of the properties have been bought up by a handful of companies who then rent them out directly. That’s likely not a good thing in itself on looking ahead.
But when you attempt to contact about a home, they direct you to their websites via a bunch of automated emails. They then want you to register & do these “self-tours”.
After spamming many requests back, I finally! got to speak to some “agent” in a cubicle somewhere far away… I confirm that no, having an actual agent meet & show you the home is NOT an option!
What’s creepy is they want you to provide a license, a selfie! (for biometrics), & some even request a cc! WTH this is just to view a property, not apply! What if I decide I’m not interested… Why the heck do I want my most personal info in your stupid system forever!? Get off your butt & do your job!
So to ensure I wasn’t being overly paranoid, I asked a 16/35/62 year old their take- all 3 were like that’s weird, sounds like identity theft 101- in things not to do! We even consulted a couple out of state realtors- neither had heard of such a thing (yet).
So I did get out of the person I spoke with, after expressing my concerns on the absurdity… these companies are using this Rently program to “streamline” the process “remotely”. She even told me to google it, like it’d somehow make me feel better 🙄!
This is multiple companies all using it, & it’s on the majority (if not all) the available properties.
I assume they’ll be doing so on properties For Sale sooner than later, & Real Estate Agents will be replaced by bots & this stupid program entirely!
Idk what clueless millennial thought this up, but I’d love to smack them upside the head!
