I had the privilege, as a freshman in high school, of playing on our state champion volleyball team – all 5’1″ 88 pounds of me. I was obviously not there for my spiking prowess – 🙃 – but, I could serve.
My dad would have spent the rest of his life in prison if this had happened to me. My mother wouldn’t have allowed me to stay on the court, but she needn’t have worried, because my teammates and I would have walked off.
Where oh where are these parents!!!!!! Things have changed so dramatically since those days – and not in a good way.
My son’s little league team (13 to 15) was on the field when a thunderstorm snuck up. Within moments it intensified. I was sure they would pause the game, but they didn’t. I left the bleachers to speak to our manager. He laughed at me. I went to the home plate ump to request he stop the game. He refused. By now, people in the stands (including my ex!) were loudly laughing at me and booing. So I insisted that my son be removed from the game. He was understandably mortified.
(only forgave me when he managed his own sons’ teams)!
Well, God had the last laugh and released a gullywasher on those spectators, which finally forced an end to the game.
I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
And……as a postscript, two years prior to this incident, multiple players on a little league team about 20 miles away, had died from a lightening strike which hit the pitcher and spread out from there. Who cares about a bit of derision from irresponsible parents compared to that? 😥

A few (more) words about guns. I an blessed to have several good friends who happen to be women. Over time we have become close . . . almost like family. I know them well enough that I’ve taken the opportunity to ask them about personal safety. Having some almost Very Bad Encounters, I’ve become acutely sensitive to just how much more dangerous our country is becoming. So, with concern in mind, I began asking my good friends about their encounters that could have turned dangerous. What they reported genuinely freighted me.
So what is a Really Bad Thing? Finding oneself compromised in a Wallmart paarking lot by an aggressive male is a good example. All of my female friends reported repeated instances of this . . . they’d been “clocked” and then approached by individuals making false inquiries designed to put them at ease. I found that my friends were skilled at using loud voices and forceful demands to scare away potential threats. As they explained their experiences, I could tell they were very good and very successful at this.
But what happens if some bad guy decides to up the ante and become physically violent? With this in mind, I’ve begun advising my friends to consider arming themselves. For a lot of people this is a major step. I’ve found that most women are at first quite reluctant to even consider arming themselves and, even worse, defending themselves with a firearm. This is entirely understandable.
As a first step in meaningful self protection, I’ve encouraged my friends to enroll in a firearms training class. Gun stores and gun ranges offer these classes at modest cost and, even if you have never even held a gun, the experience will be instructive.
As the NRA often says . . . if someone physically attacks you, it really pays to have a gun . . .
Sadly, my women friends experiences with Really Bad Interactions is substantially more frequent than my own. In today’s society, women are simply more vulnerable than most men. My advice is take some classes and arm yourselves. There’s danger out there.
Went to gun range in tulsa recently on a Saturday, majority of folks firing were women!
I agree with you 100%, Garrison. The gun safety instructor that my wife and I used (ten years ago) was very good, which helped put her at ease with handling a firearm. He allowed her to progress at her own pace and comfort level (up to the point where two years into it, she fired his AK-47 on the outdoor range, just because she wanted to know what all of the hype was about. He also offers a “Ladies night” every Tuesday where only women attend the training sessions. These sessions are not just for the basic training, but to help women understand the dangers they face and how to neutralize them. They are also designed to keep the women aware of the need for self-defense and self-awareness of their situations at all times. Included are evenings dedicated to how to deal with an attacker with a knife. I think it is critical that women learn these techniques, even if they never intend to carry a firearm. Being unarmed doesn’t protect you… nor does being unprepared. Remember…. when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
Great observations Garrison. Many women would find that target shooting is a blast (pun intended) if they could get over their fear of firearms. The cure is education and training.
Firearms are indeed the great “equalizer” that people in general, and women in particular need. Also old geezers such as myself!

-Apparently the Supreme Leader of Iran ordered the military to directly attack Israel and prepare for a possible regional war.
-On my social media it was reported that an official Israeli source said to expect a major attack from Iran, Hezbollah, Yemen. Iraq, Syria in the next 72 hours.
-Israel is sending Hezbollah a message that if they attack civilian targets we will be going to a full war.
-Israeli messaging through main media to Assad the leader of Syria that he is responsible to prevent an attack from Syria or Israel will attack his government and aide the Syrian resistance to topple him.
-US Defense Secretary said a couple of days ago that if Israel get attacked, the US will help like the last time. (Intercepting missiles and drones).
-The IDF just completed one of the largest drills in the north. The IDF is ready for Hezbollah. Yet, the Defense Minister and Chief of Staff are saying that “we don’t want war, it’s up for Hezbollah to decide”.
Note: This reminds me of the Six Days war when we were prepared for a massive war and were surrounded and Israel took a preemptive strike and won the war in the first few hours of the Six Days War. I doubt that Bibi will strike first as his line of thought is seeking world legitimacy. He needs munitions from Biden.
-Chief of Staff said in a talk a few weeks ago that we have surprises and technologies that have not yet been seen.
-A War with Hezbollah is much harder than Hamas aside for the fact that Hezbollah are not holding hostages which makes everything easier.
-Note: If Iran attacks there is a good chance that Israel will take out their oil fields this time. Their main money source.
This will cause oil prices to rise in the world. May just be the trigger that helps Trump win. American elections are influenced by economy, Israeli elections are influenced by security. Mysterious are the ways of God.

Calamity Jane
(1852-1903)
American frontierswoman, dies at 51
Biography: Calamity Jane was a famous figure of the American Old West known for her frontier lifestyle and her association with Wild Bill Hickok.
Martha Jane Canary, later known as Calamity Jane, took charge of her five younger siblings at age 14 after her parents died. She worked various jobs, including scout, ox team driver, and dance hall girl. Jane claimed she earned her nickname “Calamity Jane” during a military campaign in the 1870s, though this story is disputed.
Jane was known for her compassion, particularly during a smallpox outbreak in Deadwood. She claimed a close relationship with Wild Bill Hickok, but evidence suggests they only met briefly. Jane participated in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show and the 1901 Pan-American Exposition, showcasing her frontier experiences.
Jane was famous for her heavy drinking and habit of wearing men’s clothing. She once ended up far off course during a short buggy ride due to intoxication. Jane died in August of 1903 after an illness and was buried next to Wild Bill Hickok.

(1929-1977)
American spy captured by the USSR after his U-2 spy plane was shot down in 1959, dies in a helicopter crash at 47
Biography: Powers is best known as the pilot of the CIA U-2 spy plane that was shot down over the Soviet Union in 1960. His plane was equipped with a state-of-the-art camera intended to take high-resolution photographs of military installations and other sensitive sites from an extremely high altitude. As the U-2 spy plane flew and took photographs from the stratosphere, the Soviet Union initially lacked any effective way to respond.
Then in 1960, when Powers was on a mission already deemed risky, the Soviet Union launched a total of 14 S-75 Dvina surface-to-air missiles. One missile hit Powers’ aircraft and he crashed. Unfortunately for the United States, Powers failed to activate the plane’s self-destruct mechanism and the advanced aircraft was captured intact.
This proved awkward when the United States sought to inquire under cover, claiming that a weather plane had ended up off course. Powers was convicted by a Soviet court and imprisoned, admitting his guilt and apologising for violating Soviet airspace. As a result, the American media who initially portrayed him as a hero now implied cowardice.
Meanwhile, Powers’ wife in the United States was up to all sorts of shenanigans and, indirectly as a result of this, President John F. Kennedy approved a prison swap: Powers for KGB Colonel William Fisher.

Israel Update:
The IDF has now officially announced that Muhammed Def, the Military Commander of Hamas, the architect, initiator and planner of 10/7, the founder of the tunnels doctrine, is dead!
It was published along with a short video of the assassination that took place a few weeks ago. Hamas is still hiding this fact of his death.
This adds to the assassination of Ismail Hanyiah the Political leader yesterday And the Chief of Staff of Hezbollah.
We are on a momentum.
I have to mention that with all those strikes that Hamas received recently and we are not seeing any rocket attacks on Israel as a revenge. Anyone thinking that the IDF is not winning this war should see this fact. For decades rocket attacks were the sword on Israel’s neck. They lost this ability, lost their lands, losing their command and tunnels. Lost Rafah , the main oxygen line for smuggling weapons from Egypt, they lost a large % of the buildings in Gaza. Israel is killing tens of terrorists every week, i get to see the videos on telegram. Bodies of terrorists everywhere in Gaza on a daily basis.
They are still able to launch some attacks on the soldiers in Gaza but it is diminishing. I see every few days more and more tunnels and structures blown up. Their manufacturing of munitions and rockets is close to zero now if not zero.
The only thing they have is hostages and lies on the media. Using Al Jazeera to paint an imagined picture of victory.
By the way even Al Jazeera is serving as an arm of Hamas and this week their lead journalist who instigate the Hamas propaganda was killed in Gaza. They called the 10/7 massacre “The Al-Aqsa storm”. That storm, “victory” looks like the destruction of Gaza and Hamas, quite a “storm”. The IDF is able to mobile forces now to Lebanon. While Hezbollah is stronger than Hamas, in Gaza our hands were tied because of the hostages and in the north will be easier to go full blast.
At the end Israel should emerge safer and stronger.
As a note. I see that the Washington Post reported that US NAvy has mobilized some 12 Ships and a carrier to the area. The War with Hezbollah and Iran is imminent. The US is showing strength.
I also read that more than 70,000 Israelis are not in their homes in the north because the threat from Hezbollah is still pending. We should keep a prayer vigil for their swift and safe return to a normal life.
Yes. That is the reason why there is a high likelihood for a full war in the north. It is the duty of the government and military to return them home and return safety. There have been daily attacks from Lebanon since 10/7.

Anyone who drives on the streets of this nation is familiar with traffic signs, among them the yellow diamond-shaped notices about what lies ahead. These may warn of speed bumps, falling rocks, steep hills, or divided highways. The really important signs are in red. While you may pay little attention to the yellow ones, the transportation department wants you to be alert. However, ignoring red signs increases your peril.
In 1 Corinthians 16, the Apostle Paul is offering his closing thoughts to the believers at Corinth. “Be on your guard” is how the New International Version renders the start of today’s verse. In the Greek, his words sound like a military command, barked out by the drill sergeant.
British theologian William E. Vine said, “These four exhortations have a military tone: the believers must be as sentinels on guard, must maintain their position, must manifest courage, and must become strong.
And the exhortations were evidently needed against insensibility to spiritual dangers, against desertion from the truth, against moral weakening.”
Theologian Matthew Henry says that Paul uses the present imperative to be on the alert because “a Christian is always in danger, and therefore should be ever watchful.”
The alertness of believers not only applies to outside forces, but to those that are internal and can interrupt communion with God.
Colossians 4:2 reminds you to “continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”
Keep yourself alert and awake by praising and thanking the Lord. Things are happening.
God is working!
Heed His warning signs as you see them. And follow the last of the commands given in the next verse, “Do all in love.”
Pray that members of Congress who are conducting investigations into numerous matters would be alert and aware, and receive the ability to discern truth from the Lord.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

HOLD THE LINE and NEVER SURRENDER.
God is going to strengthen you if you let Him. This is a time of warning God has warned us about. This is a time you have to put on your armour every single day. Also plead the blood of Jesus…In the Name of Jesus I thank You Father God that we have the BLOOD COVENANT with You…the Blood of Jesus Christ, that I am delivered, set free, healed, made whole, I’m protected. I plead the blood of Jesus over my family, household, vehicles, finances…Plead the blood over everything that you have. The Blood is for your protection.
The enemy can see the blood and he cannot pass that bloodline as the angel of death did not have power to go through the doors that had the blood on them. Focus on how big God truly is and what He has said in the Promises He has given in His Word…He is faithful to perform His Word and that covenant He will NOT break…Jesus destroyed the power of the enemy. He destroyed the curse….the enemy has been disarmed…
When we walk out of love, get irritated…we walk out of that protection. God doesn’t expect you to be perfect…if you’ve fallen down God is saying get up from where you are. Start putting back on your armour, pleading the blood of Jesus, start realizing you are in the Army of the Lord, you are a child of the Most High God, you are loved by God and you are not defeated…KEEP your focus and attention on God…He is still the Answer. Jesus is our Victory, our Deliverer…start seeing yourself the way God sees you, not as the world sees you. See yourself as the child of God, a person that is victorious, as the person God is saying that you will rise above all the tests, trials and adversity…He’s given you all power, authority and dominion…
