This is the first MAGA rally since the attempted assassination of President Trump exactly a week ago in Pennsylvania. This is also the first rally since President Trump announced his 2024 campaign running mate, Senator JD Vance (selected from within team Thiel/Musk). What you are reading is from Sundance who appears to have major butthurt sins his man wasn’t selected. I am surprised and disappointed that he is acting this way.
It’s probably fair to level some criticism on the grounds of myopia or simply having an impossibly purist standard. I think Sundance probably has to know we’re going to wait a long time waiting for perfect candidates.
But the stuff about Vance’s background and improbable rise in politics should raise eyebrows. I was neutral on him. Probably would’ve preferred Burgum, but Rubio was an absolute non-starter for me. I’m deeply bothered by Vance being married to a bay-area, Yale-educated lawyer. Her being Indian can either be an asset or a liability. I’ve known Indian immigrants to be very conservative, ultra-loyal, and traditional. I’ve also seen the opposite.

To his credit, Vance has addressed this directly. He said he was wrong, which is rare in politics. Doesn’t mean I’m not suspicious of his background and the authenticity of his America-First principles. But I’m not judging him on something he said in 2016. I couldn’t stand Trump in 2016 and only voted for him because I knew no matter how bad he turned out to be, Hillary was worse by an order of magnitude. I was wrong. Trump proved me wrong, and earned my enthusiastic vote in 2020, and again this year.

Hello. Fellow flip flopper here. I used to work for a guy who organized business conventions. he had a PhD is business and had authored a couple of textbooks. One day he told me how much he enjoyed watching “The Apprentice.” I said, “WHUT?! You watch THAT guy???!” He smiled and said, ‘You should watch it. You learn a lot about business.” Suffice it to say I have done a 180 on THAT guy since. It happens. People learn, change their thinking accordingly and we grow. I highly recommend it.
Oh please. Enough with the sanctimonious lectures. I have as many doubts about Vance as I had about Trump. Changing your mind and admitting you were wrong is a sign of maturity. I still have questions, but it’s certainly possible that he changed his mind about Trump – without compromising core values or being manipulated – just like half of the people who now support Trump did.

I don’t believe that it necessarily follows that a person is a Cassius because there is evidence of his being groomed by many people.
I have been in a profession in which I’ve seen a lot of grooming, albeit not for anything as lofty as senator or President.
I have watched career paths and career behaviors of those who I felt had been picked and groomed.
Conclusion: some of the groomed turn out to disappoint their groomers when it counts.

I would not say that’s the case. Never forget that President Reagan gave one of his many speeches discussing leaders of the governed. He stated clearly, never trust anyone and moreover don’t even trust him. So Sundance is simply stating that simple fact, verify whom you put a modicum of trust in. He went to private schools. Vance changed his name from that of the father who left to that of the grandparents who raised him: his mother’s maiden name. (btw, Gerald Ford, too, changed his name from that of his alcoholic father to that of his beloved stepfather). Obama changed his name to Barry Soetero after his adoptive Indonesian father, making Obama Indonesian; he has never become a naturalized American citizen. Nor does Vance have a ssn assigned to one Harrison Bounel of Connecticut as does Obama.

At the convention President Trump made it clear that he is the boss and that Vance needs to show his stuff before President Trump’s blessing is given (no hugging on stage and no throwing linked arms in the air).
Now, we need to keep our eyes on the ball, which is to get President Trump elected. We can judge Vance after that.
If Vance wants his own agenda, he’s in a bit of a tough situation. He must have President Trump’s endorsement in 2028. But Vance won’t get it — and won’t get our votes — unless he does right by President Trump and we the people.
It also just occurred to me that President Trump sent Vance to sit with the crowd, which means he is not with our President who connects with people back stage (and most likely plans things) before the rallies. So Vance was left out. This is another indication Vance will need to prove himself before favor is given.

I wanted to write a post that uses my own experience to explain the number of people I know in my professional career who started off young and full of ideals, who were courted by “elders” whose REAL goals were not perceived by the person they took under wing nor even by others for some time.
I know many who succumbed and I know many who after a few years said, “They were good to me, but I don’t believe in the things they believe” and who went their own way.
I am remembering all of them.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all to find that Vance himself KNOWS that he was plucked from his perch precisely because of his background.
However, consider that the minute military recruiters saw his ASVAB scores (likely taken his senior year in hs), his file was marked with “GET THIS KID. IF he’s not in shape, MAKE HIM WORK UNTIL HE IS IN SHAPE.”
His Wiki bio lists his service in the Marines from 2003-2007 and his graduation from OSU as 2009. Something is missing there as one doesn’t usually graduate from a four year school in two years. From OSU he went to Yale Law.
The point is, the Ivies were looking NOT just at recruiting minorities of color at that time but also at young people from disadvantaged parts of the country.
Having met and talked with at length many military recruiters as wells as university recruiters over the decades, I understand that he was just what they were looking for. He recognized it as well. He knew which people got brownie points for “getting him there” and he’d be mindful of the others he’d meet after he graduated.
There would be no shortage of groomers.
As he aged, we can only hope that at each step in the process, he learned something about who wanted what and why. Was it good for him and his new family or just good for the groomers? Would his future be bleak if he turned some away with a “Thank you, but no”?
A lot of doors have been opened for him since he left the military. He’s no dummy. He knows they all want him for this or that. In this way, as an intelligent guy, he is probably a great deal like Donald J. Trump, who understands enemies can become friends, friends can become enemies, opponents can become allies, never feel you can’t solve a problem, keep your eyes and ears open.
At 39, I’m going to say he’s probably intellectually open to new ideas but not to changing VALUES.
He is Scots-Irish. They are tenacious. (We know another guy who is half Scottish). They value family and loyalty and while they hope people are sincere, they know pretenders abound.

It seems to me that some readers are forgetting the atmosphere of the RNC convention of 2016.
PDJT had to bring in Paul Manafort to try and get a handle on even winning the nomination. The bitter anti-Trump core were very much in command.

I listen to less than 2 minutes of MSDNC yesterday. I absolutely understand Sundance’s concerns about JD Vance and freely admit that I now view his story a bit differently after realizing how similar it is to Obamas, just from the other side.
However, public speaking is an art form and not everyone is good at it, especially in the beginning. I’m disappointed with JD’s speech is so far just because they’re very choppy and he seems nervous. I hope that someone on his team will help him, quickly!
PS – my kids did competitive speech and debate for several years and I was one of the coaches. The presentation sometimes matters more than the content, unfortunately, which is why someone like BHO was able to be so successful!

As one who worked California Corrections for over 20 years, an ‘client’ presenting MULTIPLE name changes usually aroused an interest in their background. Most were obviously to conceal nefarious actions, considering the environment I worked within. Some Presidents have highly relied on their VP for a good percentage of their decisions.
Yet what many forget is Heaven forbid that if for any reason Trump cannot fulfill his term of office Vance becomes President. As president Vance would not have Trump or any of his people keeping Vance in line as many who are not sure of Vance claim will happen .
Listen carefully to JD Vance. He promises that as long as he is in the leadership group, conservatives will have a place at the table. I was under the impression that patriotic Republicans were essentially conservative people and their principles conservative. Look what happened to the Conservative Party in the UK. They have proved to be a disaster – in fact Labour lite. With so many unprincipled Republican Politicans in the party and especially the senate, it is a party I would not trust. I believe that even if President Trump does certain necessary things for the good of Americans that he will have this millstone around his neck of politicians in his party draging him down. I fear JC Vance may also prove to be a millstone.
I just listened to a Forbes video of him as he “Discusses Christian Faith, Meaning Of ‘Grace’ At ‘God And Country’ Breakfast.” His ignorance of Biblical Christianity and its main tenets were on full display. I wondered if he had ever read though the Bible even once and pondered the teachings of Jesus. I do pray God will open his eyes and those of his wife so he will discover that grace is the undeserved kindness of God to a sinner which a person experiences and understands when he repents of his sin and puts his faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour.
You do realize that JD Vance is a Roman Catholic? If you are of a different Christian faith you might have a slight dogma difference.
