Four servicemen have used makeshift rafts to traverse the river and reach Russian positions, RIA Novosti has reported
A group of Ukrainian soldiers have braved the waters of the Dnieper River in a bid to surrender to Russia, RIA Novosti reported on Sunday, citing security sources and sharing a video.
Black-and-white footage apparently taken from a drone at night shows the four men swimming to the opposite side of the river. The clip then shows them coming out of the water with their hands behind their heads as Russian soldiers are already waiting for them on shore.
According to RIA, the Ukrainians used makeshift rafts made of empty plastic bottles to cross the Dnieper. The sources told the news agency that the four soldiers surrendered in the Kherson Region. The former Ukrainian territory officially joined Russia in autumn 2022 following a referendum, along with neighboring Zaporozhye Region and the two Donbass Republics.
The four soldiers had previously contacted the Russian military via a special Telegram chat bot and stated their desire to lay down arms, RIA reported, adding that they were able to discuss the details of their surrender with the Russian side in advance.
The news comes as Kiev is struggling to replenish heavy losses sustained in the fighting with Russia. Announced by Ukraine shortly after the start of the conflict, the major mobilization campaign has been marred by widespread draft dodging and graft, as well as attempts to flee the country.
The draft dodgers often brave perilous conditions in their attempts to escape. Ukraine’s Border Service said in June that more than 45 Ukrainian men had died in rough terrain while fleeing the country, adding that a significant portion of them drowned while seeking to cross the Tisza River, which flows through southwestern Ukraine, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Serbia. Ten people were confirmed to have drowned in the river in May alone.
Kiev’s forces also continue to suffer heavy losses on the front lines, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The Ukrainian military recently lost some 13,500 servicemen in just one week, it said in a report on Friday.

A crazy thought passed my mind about the absolute insanity of Gender Fluidity , Gay Pride celebrations, men in women’s sports and our education system advocating Gender Fluidity.
If a teenage boy decides to identify as a teenage girl and must be identified that way by society, does that include Auto Insurance? Insurance cost for teenage boys is usually much higher than for teenage girls. So do the teenage boys that have identified themselves as girls get the lower auto insurance rates? And, if they don’t, can they sue the insurance company.
Probably a dumb question, but considering where we are today with all this nonsense, thoughts like this are probably not uncommon or I’m just going crazy.
People have been referring to their pets (cats and dogs mostly) as their “children” for quite a while now. Can they now legally claim them as dependents on their 1040?

Why did we allow gender discrimination in the insurance industry to set higher rates for some and lower for others?
Is it “fair” to have the same high rates for everyone? After all, there are no differences, and anyone can be anything now.
Actually, no.
It is “fair” to charge by risk. Historically, “men” (whatever that means) were impulsive, passionate, prone to speeding and competitive behavior. And that behavior led to higher accident rates, which is higher cost to the insurance agencies, therefore higher rate to the consumers of insurance.
But these are individual traits. Not all men behave this way, which is why we use other factors like high school grades, accident history, and job history to rank risk for new drivers. This should be the same for men, women, and whatever combination thereof society wants to invent.
If you don’t want higher rates, behave more responsibly. Pay attention in school, drive safe, and gain experience by driving a couple of years (the 25yo rules).
I remember talking about this issue with some of my co-workers years ago. Male co-workers. I believed that the insurance companies had too much power in America, and that we were probably all being ripped off by them in one way or another.
I thought that the across-the-board higher rates for young men were discriminatory. Some of my co-workers had both sons and daughters. I wondered aloud if we shouldn’t start all new drivers at the same higher rate than more experienced drivers, and then quickly raise rates for individuals who demonstrated a tendency toward reckless driving.
Then I thought it would probably end up looking like young men paying much more than young women anyway.
The fathers of both boys and girls thought so, too.
It’s hard to keep an industry totally on the up-and-up when government is involved. Someone is always going to get the short end of the stick. Just my opinion.

Still, I notice my six plus decades of life experience impart a far more considered and measured approach than the me of youth.

I argue that it most-certainly was worth it because we’re still here 250 years later but the vapid nature of the vast majority of our population today, particularly when it comes to whatever version of “oh its all free and government can just make it appear out of thin air and give it to me” is being run this day or next, along with the rank robbery and racketeering that so many not only support they directly participate in that is at the core of the problem. You need only look at Africa which had a higher per-capital GDP than most of Asia, they got drunk on that, declared “colonialism” bad and threw all the white people who had built all that “stuff” out, often at gunpoint. In the ensuing years, unable to maintain what they had, say much less expand it, they’re now way behind China and other Asian nations and in many cases basic infrastructure such as water and power is now failing or even threatening to collapse entirely.
America can go down that toilet folks. Don’t kid yourselves and if you think not you need only look at the demographics and the clear results of these “gimme” policies among those who must make a productive next generation with the intellectual capacity to maintain and improve said infrastructure or over the next several decades we will follow that path just as have dozens of other nations over the last thousand years.
