When I first heard of this, I thought it was a stupid spoof. It is not. It is real.
Keep in mind, in order for this to be in the print version of the Senate bill, the Senate Armed Services Committee had to vote to approve it. Repeat that sentence if needed. The Senate Armed Service Committee, meaning every member on that committee, had to support the change to make women register for the draft.

If you have entire categories of troops who are never supposed to be “in the trenches” that is exactly the kinds of troops a clever enemy is going to try to attack by surprise. Russian Spetsnatz used to specialize in that sort of thing. I am sure Chinese commandos do the same.

All that will mean (drafting women) is that women will be at far greater risk of death, rape and crippling injury. And that MEN will also be at far greater risk of death and crippling injury.
Take a look at the Hamas GoPro videos from Israel on 10/7 to see how they were tormenting and abusing an entire IDF military intelligence unit made up of female IDF soldiers. Hamas raped them all, murdered most of them and kidnapped the rest. The exact same sort of thing also happened to female Ukrainian soldiers but the Russians were not wearing GoPros so there is no video… only some recovered corpses. The same thing will happen to female US draftees. They will be unlikely to get the special all-out recovery efforts expended for Jessica Lynch or Shoshana Johnson. They were not supposed to be “in the trenches” but the enemy gets a vote too.
Drafting women will substantially increase risks for male soldiers also. During peacetime Women insist on gaining entry to every military career specialty, because otherwise they will be at a disadvantage in promotion and career advancement. But when the SHTF military units are forced to pull women out of many highly dangerous jobs and backfill those shortfalls with men, even men who may not be trained in that job or who have not done that job for a long time.
I have personal experience seeing this happen in the US Army. My unit was assigned to ’embed’ with and train Iraqi military. But Iraqi arabs will NOT listen to or respect females, US or Iraqi or any females. So all those positions that were ordinarily filled by women had to be backfilled by men grabbed from other units. It doesn’t matter if tolerance, equality, DEI and such nonsense are the rules in the US military. Unless the US is going it entirely on its own without allies, the US will have to structure its military in ways allies can accept. So except for developed western countries almost every country the US partners with is going to reject allowing women to play an equal role. Which means more US men are going to get shoved into the dirtiest, most dangerous, most sensitive jobs once bullets start to fly whether they are trained for it or not. That will get more men killed than if all those roles were filled by men to begin with, were filled by men who were trained and prepared.

After the news of this hit the wire so to speak, the responses I’ve seen, here in the South is, “Hell no, we won’t go.” No one wants to serve under an unstable Administration. Must be passed every year, though also needs the Defense Appropriations Act (and separate act for miliary construction/VA) for the spending aspect. The House version has a number of good things, like no time off/travel expense to leave post for abortions, no gender surgeries, elimination of all DEI positions.

My Dad was 8 years in the Navy and a veteran of Pearl Harbor, and many of the battles fought in the south Pacific. I know what war and battle scars he carried his entire life. While I strongly agree with both your reasons and Maquis’ thoughts related to them not being in any combat related roles, I’m a little surprised based on the entirety of your response that you aren’t for their inclusion in selective service so that should the need arise they could fill all the positions you feel they should be able to man.
My own view is one more restrictive, yet still open to the possibility of them signing up for selective service for whatever roles they do fill in the advent of need. Then again, my view is that actual call up should be restricted to repelling invasion and defending our soil only – most definitely not for being corporate and political strong arms. If the latter are their game, let them hire mercenaries.

20 years ago, when my sons were applying for college aid, they had to register in order to be eligible. As a woman, and a mom, I thought it a bit unfair young men had to register, while young women did not. I don’t know what the answer to that is. I always felt there should be some kind of balance there.

I have to respectfully disagree on this point. As pointed out above, Israel drafts women into combat roles, and the IDF is a formidable foe. I know I would never want to see them on the wrong end of a gun. If you’re clinging onto the America that used to be, your viewpoint makes sense, but that America no longer exists. Things are different now. I can foresee scores of Liberal men pretending to be women just to get out of military service, and the only ones being sent to the meat grinder would be the ones America needs most…real men.
Also, people would be less likely to vote for war if they knew their daughters would be on the front line.
America is at a point where it needs real men inside her borders, not outside her borders.

Have you seen the Hamas GoPro helmet-cam video of the all-female IDF military intelligence unit they captured on 10/7 ? This was an all female unit located close to the Gaza border. Hamas terrorists surprised them and captured the entire base.

It is one thing to serve your country, and quite another to serve your government. Anyone with common sense knows by looking at the last 60 years, that our criminal government politicians will conduct wars wherever they please to further their ambitions and portfolios. How many poor men were drafted into Viet Nam to lose their futures for NO legitimate cause? This corrupt, illigitimate government that has taken over Washington DC should NEVER be served.
When and if the time comes that our country is in danger from a foreign enemy, good men will not have to be drafted; …they will come to fight on their own accord. Brave women will step up to support them as they have so valiently in the past. But, never should a woman face the harshest killing fields of the front battle lines. That arena is the province of men.
For now, standing to serve the corrupt executive, legislative, judicial, and Intel branches as they play their global war games is NOT patriotic. It is a foolish waste of our blood and treasure. We should be smarter than to allow it.

Yes that’s correct. Desperate times call for desperate measures. We may get to that situation in this country but we’re not there yet. p.s. women can be awesome when needing to protect home and children (ie mama bears) but men are better at it – more effective – truthfully. (speaking as a woman)
Women in combat has a demoralizing effect on male soldiers when they see their fellow female comrades getting blown to pieces by bullets and bombs.
Plus they risk being gang-raped and worse if they’re ever captured by the enemy.

I agree. To win a war it takes everyone involved doing what their abilities dictate. Women in WWII were essential for doing the jobs that men couldn’t do because men were needed in combat. Without supply lines with food weaponry, medical care and paper work being handled properly the soldiers could not fight any battle before them. It’s all a coordinated effort towards a goal. Every job was essential for the war effort and all did it willingly.
Women are being told they are less of a person because they can’t do some jobs only a man can do so are now insisting on being hired to do jobs only men can do. It’s ridiculous. A person man or woman is not less of a person because they are not equipped with all of the same abilities as another person.
The word co-operation for the greater good of the whole, has left the American thought process in favor of me, me, me, done purposely by the leftist indoctrination. Everyone is a victim now.

No need, my comment wasn’t a vote for women in combat (see my conversation with BK) – it was about the reality that both nations are indeed living with, and within the shadow of, their numerous enemies who would like nothing better than to see them cease to exist. If you don’t understand that, you aren’t fully aware of the situation we are currently in.
Of course it was. They were a very small country surrounded by enemies. Every citizen was needed to even constitute and army. It’s to bad they didn’t keep it that way. If every Israeli had still been armed like it used to be, Hamas would have never attacked them this time.
If 10/7 wasn’t as useful as 9/11 it never would have happened.

Being of draft age, just last week I decided to declare as a transgender women to get out of being drafted. I’ll have to rethink that.
Funny, when I was young and all my brothers when they ‘came of age’ registered for the draft (Vietnam going on) I realized that I had it comparatively easy. Felt guilty but not guilty enough to want it to change! I knew obviously that we girls (women) could never match the guys physically (I grew up with 3 brothers) but I also knew that we could easily contribute to support structure in the military. Not combat! But other roles. So I’m actually a bit conflicted about this.
OF COURSE I would never trust the current administration nor the woke perspective nowadays to have any shred of good sense to know this. Just offering my perspective. So with that said I’m completely against registering women for military service.

Here is a very serious thought, although it may seem to be a sarcastic comment … the Uni-Party is not so “transgender friendly” and this is also a catch all to ensure “boys do not claim to be girls” to avoid service.

The truth is that it is no longer in our best interest for the U.S. to have a powerful global military any longer. No matter how it is comprised, it will never be used to actually defend America. They are now attempting to start World Wars with Russia and China and probably Iran as well.
So in reality neither men nor women should desire being in the military to serve clown world. This is setting aside the fact that the U.S. and its’ Western allies are at the end of their run as the dominate world empire. The U.S. could not win a war against China or Russia and probably not against Iran. Note that if you go to war against Iran, thanks to neocon stupidity, that probably means war with Russia as well.

How about this. Not eligible for combat, not eligible to vote. All women, and men who are past combat age AND did not serve IN COMBAT may not vote.

What is quite evident in this thread is that most intent on seeing a very very different America aren’t Americans.

And it did produce a very different society from what we have now.
I’ve read many, but certainly not all, of the responses above. I’m a female (sex-wise; not familiar with anything else), way too old to be drafted, but I would support women being registered for the defense of our country, and would have registered, if required in 1968 (yes, Vietman era). I worked for the Army (DoD) as a civilian (1975-2006); and retired as a Department of Army Civilian (and yes, I’m one of those, according to some of you, who sat on my ass for 30+ years and am drawing a great pension…So, don’t bother going there…I love being rich, but I could have been so much richer if I’d gone to work for an international conglomerate, but they wanted me to move to Japan…but instead, I followed in my Dad’s footsteps, and he also sat on his ass for 35 years and drew a government pension…if you can’t tell, those kinds of comments really p*ss me off…and I’m really tired of them). One of my earliest jobs (77-79) was creating a simulator/simulations and training Army military troops (both men and women) how to shoot the enemy down with the Patriot missile system (a Raytheon “mess” at that time) (and I was in to research, development, test and evaluation of air defense systems). I’m sorry to say, but the men shot at everything that “blipped” on their screens. The women held back and watched and watched and watched and then shot. Bottom line, every woman outperformed every man in our hours and hours of training. So many of you (in your heads) have women packing 70 lbs. of gear/in the trenches/etc. like that’s the next conflict. I’m not saying that won’t be a part of it, but I’d rather have a woman controlling the radars, drones (full-/sub-scale and “other”), etc. than almost any man (it’ll save a hell of a lot of men and womens lives who are on the front lines). The men almost saw it (and this was the 70’s, when there wasn’t video games to teach them) as a game and they shot at everything and would have wasted millions of dollars of air defense weaponry (they didn’t do much better in the field, but Raytheon failed worse…). The women realized it was fake out, after fake out, after fake out…and then they shot. In this 70s-2000’s and future positions, I met many women (enlisted and officers) and I would trust them in any future battle. Republicans, which I am not (dropped them in 2004), have a hard time with women voters. Maybe it’s time to throw them in the defense mix and still see if they vote D and war after war after war. Many of the younger women I know probably need a good slap across the back of their head. Most of the older women (my neighbors, etc.) already have and carry rifles, even when they walk the loop I live on. They’re taking care of the coyote problem… For the men out there, you’re sounding way too protective… I know, I don’t need your help, but there are times I’d love your help.
