When I first heard of this, I thought it was a stupid spoof. It is not. It is real.
Keep in mind, in order for this to be in the print version of the Senate bill, the Senate Armed Services Committee had to vote to approve it. Repeat that sentence if needed. The Senate Armed Service Committee, meaning every member on that committee, had to support the change to make women register for the draft.

Comparing our situation to Israel’s in this instance is comparing apples to oranges. Israel is a very small country. Their army was established to truly protect their borders and country. Because they have a small population they have to use both men and women. But they are not sent out of country to fight. Our military in its current state is mainly to fight foreign wars not protect our borders, unfortunately. “We the People” in this country are slowly coming to realize that this is the military’s mission. We don’t want our children to fight and die in a foreign country for government elites and their need for power and money, not for our freedom.

I’m all for it. Either everyone registers for the draft or no one does. There are many noncombat positions and no women will be forced to fight on the frontlines. But here’s why I am for it. Young adults in this age group need to pay attention to what our government is doing. Maybe they will wise up about Ukraine and Hamas if faced with military service.

It’s a miserable waste of time and money. Moreover, it’s unfair to men to give women only the non-combat jobs. If you want to train young people, then advocate for civics in high school, and a bootcamp-like few weeks as a requirement to graduate.

Note that Israel does have compulsory military service for women …and I’d think most here would consider it a “serious” country. The record of their successful service in the Israeli frontlines is longstanding.
While the US has been slow to move women into combat roles, I believe all MOS’ are now open if they can meet the physical qualifications. The records of female pilots during the Iraq invasion were not significantly different from the male pilots.
Whether you like the draft or not is moot. Every major war we have fought up through Vietnam, a draft was always implemented. In any major future conflict will almost certainly bring one back out of necessity. The Iraqi and Afgan actions were fought with volunteers but, imnsho, that isn’t going to work with the current gen of 18-26 yos.
So vote Trump if you don’t want the left to draft your sons and daughters.

Draftees aren’t going to be pilots.
In Vietnam, only 15% of draftees were able to actually shoot at the enemy. Men in the field had plenty of hygiene problems with the humidity and dirt — multiply by a hundred if you add women (ditto the shin splints). Numerous studies have shown that women can be good shots and okay in defensive action, but are crap at forward aggression.
USSR in extremis in WWII sent some of those tough Russian women out as snipers; only 1/5 came back alive.
Anyone with any doubts about how women perform need only look at what happens to our best women athletes (and draftees are not!) when they have to compete against mediocre trannies.

There is a lot more to this in my opinion. Warfare has changed a lot. Women can load artillery, site it, fly planes, collect intelligence, drive trucks and do many other jobs so I don’t think it is nuts. Women wanted equality, now they’ve got it. You cannot discriminate.
However the military is not getting their recruiting numbers, the midwestern and southern boys aren’t volunteering as much. Perhaps a ploy like drafting females is to get their machismo up so they go in the military and keep the women home.
