This is Clarence Thomas, a chocolate lab given to us when his original adopters backed out (thank the Good Lord!).

Her love for us was enormously enfolding. This was especially true for my late wife. She became Sweetie’s “work”. She was a constant companion. The best dog . . . ever. 🙂
A fond memory. Sweetie died gently while resting comfortably in her favorite place on our porch. I petted her, told her we loved here. And then, very gently, she was gone.
All dogs go to heaven.

My wife and I did visit Norway in 2000. We visited Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen, Balestrand, and Flåm.
Awesome scenery; beautifully maintained cities and country.
We stayed in Kviknes Notel in Balestrand on the Sognefjorden (the longest fjord in Norway). Here is a more recent photo. The village and (now) 120+ year old hotel were not nearly as built-up then as today.

These mountains are our backyard. So many peaceful quiet places up there. Even a few creeks when water is running.
There is a little caveat – mountain lions, bears, and rattlesnakes like the peace too! No actual camping grounds, but hardy souls do find a quiet space for a while.
PS I prefer running water, electricity, and a comfy bed – so just day trips!

It seems to me they started them way too young. All of our Border Collies naturally took to herding after a certain age. As long as they knew where you wanted the animals, they herded them there without a problem–and without any training, too!

American Revolutionary and Founding Father famous for his “Give me liberty or give me death” speech, dies at 63
Biography: Patrick Henry led the opposition to the Stamp Act 1765 and is best remembered for his “Give me liberty, or give me death!” speech.
Along with Samuel Adams and Thomas Paine, he is regarded as one of the most influential champions of Republicanism and an enthusiastic promoter of the American Revolution and its fight for independence.
A Founding Father, he served as the first and sixth post-colonial Governor of Virginia, from 1776 to 1779 and from 1784 to 1786.
After the Revolution, Henry was a leader of the anti-federalists in Virginia. He opposed the United States Constitution, fearing that it endangered the rights of the States as well as the freedoms of individuals; he helped gain adoption of the Bill of Rights.
By 1798 he supported President John Adams and the Federalists. He denounced passage of the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions as he feared the social unrest and widespread executions that had followed the increasing radicalism of the French Revolution.

Swiss auto racer and co-founder of Chevrolet Motor Car Company, dies of a heart attack at 62
Biography: Louis Chevrolet is best known for co-founding the Chevrolet Motor Car Company in 1911, which later became a part of General Motors.
Chevrolet was born in Switzerland in 1878 but developed an interest in mechanics and bicycle racing while living in France. In 1900, he moved to North America, working for various automotive companies.
Chevrolet had a successful racing career. In 1905, he won the first AAA-sanctioned race driving a FIAT. He became friends with William C. Durant, the founder of General Motors, and later raced for Buick. In 1911, Chevrolet co-founded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company with his Durant, his brother Arthur, and other partners. The company was later merged into General Motors.
After leaving the Chevrolet company, Louis and his brothers started the Frontenac Motor Corporation in 1916 to make racing parts for Ford Model Ts. He also became the vice president and chief engineer of American Motors Corporation. Chevrolet continued racing, participating in the Indianapolis 500 four times.
Chevrolet married Suzanne Treyvoux in 1905, with whom he had three children, and became a naturalized American citizen in 1915.
He has been inducted into various automotive and motorsports halls of fame, and a memorial is dedicated to him at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.

Karl Landsteiner
(1868-1943)
Austrian immunologist and pathologist (Nobel 1930 for the discovery of different blood groups), dies at 74
Biography: Karl Landsteiner was an Austrian biologist and physician, best known for his work on blood groups. His work was instrumental in developing modern methods of blood transfusion, which have saved countless lives over the past century.
Landsteiner’s pivotal discovery came in 1901, when he identified the three main blood groups: A, B, and O. This finding resolved the inconsistencies and sometimes fatal outcomes that had previously occurred with blood transfusions. A few years later, in collaboration with Alexander S. Wiener, he discovered the Rh factor, further refining the compatibility of blood transfusions.
The practical applications of Landsteiner’s work are vast. Before his discoveries, blood transfusions were risky and often resulted in the recipient’s death. With his system of blood typing, safe and effective transfusions became possible, dramatically improving medical procedures such as surgery, childbirth, and the treatment of blood diseases.
Landsteiner’s efforts were recognized internationally when he received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1930.

The story of one man, a 17-year-old when enlisted, who tried to game the system in order to stay alive

He was assigned to the infantry and sent to North Africa where he saw action in Tunisia and Morroco. He quickly decided that the infantry was a bad proposition and line divisions stayed in combat for months at a time.
He noticed that the Airborne units did not do much fighting and were quickly pulled back to hold in reserve, sending time in large towns with the ladies while the line units fought it out with the Germans. What he didn’t realize was that generals always kept their best units in reserve to throw them in in an emergency at a critical point in a battle. In World War II the American Airborne units were the elite. When they fought it would be at critical points.
Anyway, he decided to volunteer for airborne training and told them he had been a physican’s assistant before the war. So they sent him to England and made him a medic. What he did not realize was that a medic had to rescue the wounded, essentially his life expectancy was dictated by the stupidest man in the unit who was usually wounded first. Dad was sent to the 82nd Airborne Division in England.
When the Normandy Invasion was imminent he found out that his Division was expected to take 80% casualties. They had more medics than TO&E in the 82nd and so asked for volunteers to be detached temporarily to the 1st Infantry Division, his old outfit. So he volunteered and finagled his way into it.
This didn’t work out so well, he was in the third wave at Omaha Beach where most of his unit was killed. He and I walked where he landed and he showed me where he crawled from body to body binding wounds or pulling them to cover for eight hours, never leaving the beach area. In the movie Saving Private Ryan the initial beach scene shows a corpsman at work, Dad’s experience would have been much like that. Somehow he got through that without a scratch, amazing.
He stayed with the 1st ID until the breakout from Normandy in August when he sneaked into the Battalion personnel tent and cut himself orders assigning himself back to the 82nd Airborne Division.
He then took a few guys, stole a truck full of rations, and headed off to the French city of Rennes for a stress break. He went AWOL for a couple weeks trading food for wine and a place to stay at a tavern in the city. He was finally rounded up by the MPs and sent packing to the 82nd. A lot of guys were wigging out periodically and there seemed to be little opprobrium attached. The 82nd was in reserve outside of Paris.
At some point he was promoted to Sergeant and put in charge of a platoon. When the Germans launched a massive counteroffensive in the Ardennes in December 1944 the 82nd Airborne and 101st Airborne were sent to the northern and southern flanks of the breakthrough respectively. In the south, the 101st Airborne was surrounded at Bastogne and fought ferociously for a week against several German decisions before Patton broke through to relieve the siege.

we just lost him last week to Kreutzfeld-Jakob disease, a wasting disease in the brain, took him in a month from first symptom and 3 weeks after diagnosis at Mayo Clinic Phoenix, where they’re experts in it

“Work out your own salvation.” Phil. ii. 12-13
Your will agrees with God, but in your flesh there is a disposition which renders you powerless to do what you know you ought to do. When the Lord is presented to the conscience, the first thing conscience does is to rouse the will, and the will always agrees with God. You say – “But I do not know whether my will is in agreement with God.” Look to Jesus and you will find that your will and your conscience are in agreement with Him every time. The thing in you which makes you say “I shan’t” is something less profound than your will; it is perversity, or obstinacy, and they are never in agreement with God. The profound thing in man is his will, not sin. Will is the essential element in God’s creation of man: sin is a perverse disposition which entered into man. In a regenerated man the source of will is almighty. “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” You have to work out with concentration and care what God works in; not WORK your own salvation, but WORK IT OUT, while you base resolutely in unshaken faith on the complete and perfect Redemption of the Lord. As you do this, you do not bring an opposed will to God’s will, God’s will is your will, and your natural choices are along the line of God’s will, and the life is as natural as breathing. God is the source of your will, therefore you are able to work out His will. Obstinacy is an unintelligent ‘wadge’ that refuses to be enlightened; the only thing is for it to be blown up with dynamite, and the dynamite is obedience to the Holy Spirit.
Do I believe that Almighty God is the source of my will? God not only expects me to do His will, but He is in me to do it.

Will is attached to love, love from God is perfect therefore we see no sin no fault no failure from him. Our love is ignorant. Our love can be of money, it will destroy as any love will unless God is first.
I have an example that is so profound that I cannot comprehend. Angels love God heart mind soul, they were created with all knowledge no learning they know all that God has allowed them to know. They didn’t grow and learn.
Angels are not drawn to serve man that is a choice, as Lucifer shows us. They see us as unworthy and filthy without Christ yet they serve us. A being so magnificent serving us, with power, beauty, knowledge, wisdom beyond our comprehension, they serve us willingly. Because they look beyond “us” and see God, Jesus the Christ. That…is what it looks like to love God heart mind soul all that you are.
Again, I have a different take on this: The flesh is our old ways of coping with life apart from walking by faith in God. The flesh is NOT who I am, but it is an old way of thinking (“stinking thinking” as one preacher calls it). I am holy, righteous (in fact, just as righteous as Jesus Christ is), and acceptable to God.
However, there is a “thing” inside of all of us (probably located in our brains) that the Bible calls “sin,” as seen in various places in Romans 7. This word sin (see Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary) in certain passages of Romans 7 is not a verb (an action word), but rather it is a noun (a person, place, or thing) in the original language. This power of sin entered the human race at the fall of Adam, and it first shows up in scripture in Genesis 4:7.
This power of sin uses personal pronouns (I, me, my, myself) to introduce sinful thoughts into my mind as if it were ME. In other words, it impersonates me. I sin (the verb) when I am deceived and believe this thought is mine, and then act on it (usually by responding in a fleshly way). Take note: This entity of sin only has the power to deceive me, and although it is IN me, it is NOT me!
“In other words, it impersonates me.” Hmmm, I like that, gets to the “Who Am I?”(really) question.

The Airborne operations. Then and now:
Just a little noted fact. The British 6th Airborne Division jumped into Normandy on D-day reinforced by a Brigade of Canadian Airborne troops. The last elements of that Division was not withdrawn from combat until August 27th, nearly 6 weeks after the US 101st and 82nd Abn had returned to England.
Why? Because, 5 years of war, despite reinforcements from the Canada and other Commonwealth countries, and Free French, Poland, and others, the Brits had hit the bottom of the manpower barrel. After Normandy during the drive to and into Germany, Britain had to deactivate Divisions to replace the losses in other Divisions. And because they lost their Aussie and Kiwi units that had fought with them in N. Africa as they returned home to fight the Japanese in the Pacific.

Back in 1999 when I was just a 77 year old whipper snapper and the oldest caddy at Carnoustie, I had the wonderful pleasure of caddying for a 99 year old D Day hero named Steve Melnkoff.
Now 5 years later he is is Normandy and by all accounts is to come back here to play a round again. So as I have been asked to serve him again, our combined ages will be 186 years. (104 + 82) I am not anticipating breaking any course records but the Guinness book of records may be interested.

My mother’s first husband was a part of that night time drop. He was in the 501st PIR of the 101st Airborne. He made it through Normandy, Market Garden and Bastogne. Was KIA on 12Jan45 when his foxhole took a German tank round near the town of Foy.
There is a 3 volume chronicle of the 101st Airborne campaigns beginning with D-Day written by George E. Koskimaki. It was in the book covering Bastogne that I learned how and where he was killed.
Anyone paying even a little bit of attention the last few years knew this was coming and know it is contrived.

There are many more details to this story not told in this video. But still an excellent effort. If you learn anything from this, it should be that contrary to the impression given in the movie The Longest Day the battle to take Omaha beach, was not won by Generals or other high ranking officers. It was won by those who ranked from Captain down to private. The remnants of most platoons were lead by NCO’s because their officers were KIA or wounded.

I want to recommend again: soaking in Magnesium for 20 minutes (or more) at a time.
We need so much more when we are stressed and our bowels cannot tolerate as much as we need when taken orally only.
For some reason (thank you, God 😊 ), our bowels are not so sensitive when we allow our bodies to ABSORB it through our skin.
My favorite is Dr Teals Epsom Salts (UNscented), which is sold in Israel.
I use 3 pounds each time.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

I had a friend, Sam, who went in on D-Day on Omaha Beach.
He recalled that the only reason he made it across the first kill zone was because he was short. The nazis’ machine guns were registered at a higher level.
Many other friends and relatives were spread across the WWII battlefields in the Atlantic and Pacific…. some were KIA and never made it back.
Thank God for Sam and all the other WWII vets.

After high school I worked with a welder in a steel fabrication shop in the Pittsburgh area. One day this man, Roy, did not come to work. I asked him the following day, as we began our work day, if he was sick yesterday. No he said, I never work on June 6th. Being the dumbazz 19 year old who I was at that time, I asked him why was that. He shook his head and told me that he was on Omaha Beach on June 6th, 1944 and he took that day off to remember his mates who did not return home that day. I will never forget the look in his eyes as he relived moments of that day in his mind as we talked on June 7th, 1972. I still remember talking with him on that day here on June 6th, 2024.

Loving Lord, as the day is coming to an end, I want to thank You for being with me in all that has taken place today. I also want to lay the whole day before You, asking that you would show me if there is anything that I have done to hurt or harm another person unknowingly, or if I have done anything that is displeasing in Your sight, or quenched the work of the Spirit in me, so that I may turn away from such things in the days that lie ahead.
Lord, I desire to do Your will in all things. I pray that You would cleanse me of any wrong thoughts or attitudes that may have surfaced in my heart today. Wash me in Your cleansing flood, I pray.
