There is a distinction between a Protest and a Riot.
If the police are there and have to do nothing, that is a Protest.
If the police have to start arresting people in order to protect people or property, that is a Riot.
With all due respect, leon, it remains unclear to me whether the police were protecting people or property, in this instance.
The “protests” at Columbia were clearly interfering with the rights and safety of others, so much so that they closed the place down.
In Austin LEO’s were there to stop an attempted occupation, which is why the students and paid agitators were carrying tents, we are not going to allow that at the tax payer funded University of Texas. The students were given advance notice if they tried to do it they would be arrested, LEO’s showed up and issued a warning to disperse, they chose not to and so were arrested, those who chose to resist arrest were treated accordingly and taken to jail.
They were warned not to try it, they were given a chance to leave, they resisted arrest
Also as I stated above out of the 56 arrested 21 had no ties to the University so how many more in the crowd were non affiliated? Its not difficult to figure out what happened here and who is really to blame. Paid Soros agitators..

Do the protestors carry signs declaring their support of Hamas? What do their signs and chants say? Do they come to protest marches and sit-ins armed with clubs and bricks, ready to attack and physically fight?
I think they come to protest Israel’s war on an entire population. Israel has ruthlessly attacked and persecuted non-Hamas Palestinians for years. Israel also attacks and kills humanitarian aid workers, who have come to help civilians living in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.
I know that Hamas lives and hides in these areas.
We have had terrorists live and hide anong us here in the USA.

Unfortunately, the law enforcement actions is where it will end. The Travis County attorney is responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor crimes (felonies are the responsibility of Soros District Attorney Garza). Delia Garza is no different than him. Of the plus 50 persons arrested on Wednesday (all misdemeanors) all have been released and almost all of the charges dismissed. Doubtful any protestor will be charged. You can bet Garza will be looking at charging the DPS and police officers for made up crimes, and the protestors will file civil suits for “injuries”, and the City of Austin will settle. This is the same pattern as during the George Floyd riots.
Forgot to mention. Almost half of the persons arrested on the UT campus were not students. This is a replay of the George Floyd riots and outside instigators.

But the payoffs can be huge: fame, fortune, celebrity, scholarships, endowed chairs, tenure, Pulitzers Prizes, instant street cred, magazine covers, grants, federal laws bearing your name, famous people fawning over you, actors portraying you in Hollywood blockbusters, book sales, movie rights, rock stars singing your song, the moral high ground, trips to DC, get-out-of-jail free cards to riot and burn down your town, the ability to discredit, silence or even jail your opponents–and that’s just a partial list.
When you think about that way, you’d be kinda’ crazy not to.
I don’t like “hate crimes” because no one has ever explained to me what a love crime is. Besides the entire Clinton Administration, I mean. My experience as a juror in a mid size town says otherwise. I served on a jury that unanimously voted to acquit within 5 minutes of deliberations because of the absolute lack of any evidence.
The prosecutor came to ask the jury about it after. I let him have it for bringing a case against a young man with no evidence. He wasted our time, his time, and the young man spent a couple years with a potential criminal conviction hanging over him as well as lawyer fees. It came out in the trial that the person accusing the defendant (with no other witnesses), was buddies with local law enforcement.
Happens all the time and has been for years.
I was called for jury duty for a case where the only “evidence” was from a juvenile living in a detention facility.
Fortunately the kid doing the lying ‘fessed up during a break when he saw the jury selection starting.
I’ve no idea why a prosecutor even bothered with such a case.
When I had read about the so-called crime in the paper months before, I was already thinking it made no sense.

There’s an even bigger flaw with Kagan’s premise that should have been addressed in court. The president couldn’t order a coup as an official act, he is currently president and wouldn’t overthrow himself. He could order a coup as a private act because the instant he is no longer president he is also no longer Commander in Chief and can’t order a private to do pushups let alone the entire DoD to stage a coup. Any acts the military took to delay or violate the peaceful transition of power post election but pre-transition would only be under “orders’ from Nov to Jan, at which point the military would legally be under different command and be violating the law themselves, not under order.

Trump Florida Judge Cannon has a spine of steel. Besides wanting to do what is right with all these unsealing and unredactions, she probably realized Smith et al meant business when threatening to have her refused and get the case above her immediately. She put the pedal to the metal and started moving without the, “I’m going to do this in 2 weeks, etc.”
If the judge won’t recuse herself, it is difficult to get them removed. The chief judge of SDFL could probably do it, but she is a Bush43 appointee, and if Cannon has not shown any outright bias or inability to handle the case, there is not reason to do it. The Eleventh Circuit would be unlikely to do it, too.
If Smith wants to appeal something to the Eleventh Circuit, he needs to ask permission of the Circuit. Appeals are to be taken at the end of a case, and to appeal during an ongoing case (it’s called an interlocutory appeal) requires the circuit to weigh in on some controlling issue of law or some emergency situation. Smith has neither.

An armed Secret Service agent assigned to Kamala Harris got into a physical fight with other agents at Joint Base Andrews on Monday morning.
According to reports, the problem agent began acting aggressively, speaking gibberish and shouting incoherently at other agents while they were near the lounge at JBA.
The problem agent had to be physically restrained and his firearm was taken away from him. He was handcuffed and taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
One other agent was also hospitalized.
Kamala Harris was at the Naval Observatory at the time of the fight.

China also has a population of +/- 1.4 billion people compared to the US population of +/- 340 million people so sure, they can build more, and faster, but quality control issues most likely remain China’s weak spot.

Yes; I still don’t think it’s an apt comparison, the video, besides being a pro-China propaganda piece styled to encourage investors to invest in Chinese manufacturing, is still an apples vs oranges comparison.
Note – the continued reference to Evergreen. Recent stories all over the internet about how that company is, well, bankrupt and so, my question is – was that video a paid advertisement that the WSJ put out to lure money into investing in China, because that is what it sounded like to me.

Biden Campaign To Remain On TikTok Even After Signing Bill To Ban App
Despite the fact that Joe Biden signed into law a bill that will ban the Chinese social media app TikTok if its parent company does not sell it, his campaign will continue to use the app in the meantime.
The law requires ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, to sell the app within nine months or else the app will be banned from use in the United States.
The law banning TikTok had been in the works on Capitol Hill for some time, with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle expressing national security concerns over TikTok’s close ties to the Chinese government, as well as privacy concerns regarding users’ personal data.
The provision to ban TikTok was included in the broader $95 billion foreign aid bill, which included money for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.
A standalone bill on TikTok had stalled in the Senate, so Republicans simply worked the legislation into the overall aid package in order to guarantee its passage. The bill passed both houses with overwhelming support.
