Thank you Mel, just noticed CSD’s comment. So, I’ll explain to you rather than to her. I volunteer with mostly young Christian women. We teach Bible lessons to pre and home schoolers. These young ladies are soft spoken, articulate, sweet and very caring of others. I can see Katie apppealing to them.

Several of the ones we know are running the Classical Kids homeschool program housed at our PCA church. They are working, unpaid, to raise up a new generation of kids who will have critical thinking skills and know how to use them.

It was the overly dramatic, tear-filled voice that one expects from a B-level movie of the week actress or a botox’ing suburbanite. One is drawn more to the angst in her voice than the substance of what she’s saying. I wouldn’t call it “cringe” (my bar for being made to cringe is pretty high), but if I were a communications professor I’d give it a ‘D’ grade for being more syrupy performance art than actual substantive communication.
You can tell when people are speaking from the heart and when they’re just performing. One of the reasons Donald Trump so connects with his supporters is that he doesn’t talk down to them, he doesn’t perform for them, he just shoots straight and tells you what he’s really thinking – take it or leave it. It’s so novel in politics that it comes across as abrasive to some, those used to their politicians talking down to them and telling them what they wish to hear in tones calculated to keep them asleep. The Mike Johnsons and Mitch McConnell’s of the world will never connect in this way, even employing surrogates, because they do not mean it, never have.
And that’s what it really boils down to.

I myself am not sure if it’s on purpose or not, although clearly they planned and designed it so it’s intentionally doing something in their minds. I suspect Sundance is partially right but that they’re also working a different agenda somewhere in there. I couldn’t get past the beginning, it’s really hard to watch, yuk.
Appealing to people’s emotions (or imagining that you’re doing that) as opposed to their powers of reason allows you to both distract and to condition the audience into remaining passive.
R’s are almost as dangerous to our freedoms as the D’s, and they must be watched just as hawkishly.
Just speaking to this instance, I really don’t suspect a plot to dish out a weak rebuttal. Rebutting the SOTU of a president from the opposition party is just more of the kabuki theater, so someone was trotted out to do that job, just as any production hires bit players to fill a role. That she wasn’t very good at it wasn’t really the point, from their point of view. Going through the motions of being seen as part of an actual opposition, rather than a wing of the same party, is the point of the whole exercise. If she came across poorly, oh well.
Frankly, I actually suspect that in her delivery she thought she catered well to the caricature of the typical Trump voter as imagined in the Uni-party echo chamber: overly emotional, strident, passionate to a fault, easily demagogued. From their perspective, we should have eaten this up, maybe even have been riled enough to queue up another J6. They do not get us, they have never gotten us, they will never get us. It’s no wonder that in trying to speak to us in what they imagine to be “our language” they so often beclown themselves.
Apparently the continued exposure of the uniparty’s treasonous actions has metastasized into a psychotic response of fear over losing control and power.
