Ukraine Is the Latest Neocon Disaster | Jeffrey Sachs

The war in Ukraine is the culmination of a 30-year project of the American neoconservative movement. The Biden Administration is packed with the same neocons who championed the US wars of choice in Serbia (1999), Afghanistan (2001), Iraq (2003), Syria (2011), Libya (2011), and who did so much to provoke Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The neocon track record is one of unmitigated disaster, yet Biden has staffed his team with neocons. As a result, Biden is steering Ukraine, the US, and the European Union towards yet another geopolitical debacle. If Europe has any insight, it will separate itself from these US foreign policy debacles.

The neocon movement emerged in the 1970s around a group of public intellectuals, several of whom were influenced by University of Chicago political scientist Leo Strauss and Yale University classicist Donald Kagan. Neocon leaders included Norman Podhoretz, Irving Kristol, Paul Wolfowitz, Robert Kagan (son of Donald), Frederick Kagan (son of Donald), Victoria Nuland (wife of Robert), Elliott Abrams, and Kimberley Allen Kagan (wife of Frederick).

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a neocon think-tank led by Kimberley Allen Kagan (and backed by a who’s who of defense contractors such as General Dynamics and Raytheon), continues to promise a Ukrainian victory. Regarding Russia’s advances, the ISW offered a typical comment: “[R]egardless of which side holds the city [of Sievierodonetsk], the Russian offensive at the operational and strategic levels will probably have culminated, giving Ukraine the chance to restart its operational-level counteroffensives to push Russian forces back.”

The facts on the ground, however, suggest otherwise. The West’s economic sanctions have had little adverse impact on Russia, while their “boomerang” effect on the rest of the world has been large. Moreover, the US capacity to resupply Ukraine with ammunition and weaponry is seriously hamstrung by America’s limited production capacity and broken supply chains. Russia’s industrial capacity of course dwarfs that of Ukraine’s. Russia’s GDP was roughly 10X that of Ukraine before war, and Ukraine has now lost much of its industrial capacity in the war.

The most likely outcome of the current fighting is that Russia will conquer a large swath of Ukraine, perhaps leaving Ukraine landlocked or nearly so.

At this point, I’m predicting that the judge disqualifies Fani Willis; the ethics violations and perjury have gotten too much. I have two more articles about it all coming out shortly. However, don’t get too excited, I bet the judge will allow them to replace her on the case with another partisan prosecutor, and won’t actually throw the whole case out, because it’s the safest decision for him. While he’s been far better than I expected so far on the RICO prosecution, it’s just too rare to find a judge who has the guts to do the right thing; they all have families, their job security and retirement to worry about.

OK now, this did not need to happen – period. The technology is complicated but the solution is quite simple. The ship was hit by two missiles fired by some ragtag militia, while in the middle of the sea traveling at around 9-knots.

The ship was hit in EXACTLY in the spot (the aft castle) to do the most damage. This is not regular missile guidance, this is land based guidance, including visual (camera) guidance of a missile/drone to the last second -similar to our Mavericks. We the USA have been doing this with drones for decades.

For anyone aware of our capabilities as a nation you know that WE KNOW how to block that guidance. We detect a launch and we block ALL guidance frequencies, or even ALL frequencies, for the duration of the event. We can do that with small ships (destroyers and frigates) or Hawkeye aircraft. Why aren’t we doing that?

My conclusion? There are higher powers, maybe outside, but with deep ties to our government that DO NOT want us to fix this easy to fix problem. Why? And, who are They?

Those are my questions….

In the meantime, Maritime insurance is going insane, ships are more and more traveling around southern Africa to get here and who pays for all those shipping costs? Of course WE Americans do, through higher prices on everything.

The new recipe is in striking accord with a theoretical paper published in 2022 that predicted the SARS2 virus had been generated in exactly this way. Three researchers-Valentin Bruttel, Alex Washburne, and Antonius VanDongen-noted that the virus could be cut into six sections if treated with a pair of agents known as restriction enzymes and so had probably been synthesized and assembled in this way.

Bruttel and his colleagues guessed that a commonly used pair of restriction enzymes, known as BsaI and BsmBI, might have been used to assemble the SARS2 virus´s genome. When they examined the structure of SARS2, they found that the regognition sites used by these enzymes were indeed evenly spaced across the genome, marking it into six sections. “Our findings strongly suggest a synthetic origin of SARS-CoV-2,” they wrote.

The DEFUSE proposal was authored by Peter Daszak, head of the EcoHealth Alliance in New York, with partners including Shi Zhengli [“Bat Lady”] of the Wuhan Institute of Virology and Ralph Baric of the University of North Carolina.The grant proposed to “introduce appropriate human-specific cleavage sites” into SARS-related viruses, a procedure that could have led to the creation of SARS2, with its distinctive furin cleavage site, depending on the starting virus used for the manipulation.

When SARS2 first appeared in the world, it had all the unique properties that would be expected of a virus made according to the DEFUSE recipe. Instead of slowly evolving the ability to attack human cells, as natural viruses must do when they jump from animals to humans, SARS2 was immediately infectious to people, possibly because it had already been adapted in humanized laboratory mice to the human cell receptor.

Has anyone been following what’s happening with the bonds/cash that President Trump has to post to appeal these two ridiculous judgments? I know Republicans like to say that it’s “not an issue,” but as far as I can tell, it’s a huge issue.

That whole situation is very concerning. First and foremost, I think it should be unconstitutional that you have to post collateral to appeal a judgment. How punitive and undemocratic. Everyone should be entitled to an appeal, and there shouldn’t be a monetary element to it. I think what’s concerning is that he likely doesn’t have enough liquidity to post cash. That means he has two secure at least one bond, possibly two. And then you run into the issue of not being able to get a bond due to the amount, political climate, circumstances, etc. Although it could be quite lucrative for the bonding company, there is significant risk.

My hope was that some rich millionaires/billionaires would come together and provide some assistance. No strings attached, no sleazy business, just a desire to do good for the country. Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be likely. I believe the first bond is due on Monday (for that habitual liar Carroll). The other one has a couple more weeks. I’m praying that it all works out okay.
