Today is the 2-year anniversary of the world economies changing forever after. CBS, by seizing Herridge’s files, has just owned all liability in source protection. The custom is that confidential sources are not revealed, regardless the pressure and consequences.
They have now made their corporation ownership the responsible party for lawsuits wherein the journalist normally goes to jail for refusal, the only means available to coerce the company is to go after its assets. For comparison, to compel a journalist, prison is the sanction, and there is no greater punishment except loss of life. Since prison means nothing to a corporation, asset seizure just short of corporate dissolution would be the equivalent.
Given those stakes, if the company declaims such ownership, it then has harmed the journalist by piercing the confidentiality and security of all files and contents therein, essentially revealing all confidence to other parties, violating the source agreements of all those the journalist encountered. That harms all sources. The punishment should justly be a crippling of the company to a shell of its former self.
On the other hand,…in any other line of work, such materials would be considered “work product” and it would not be controversial, at all that the material stays with the company when the employee leaves.
I suspect the conflict you project will never happen.
Companies will simply give info to the Government, and like the way the so called “whistleblower protections” system is actually abused to encourage WB’s to stick their head up so they can get it chopped off, this will further stifle free speech, and insure only officially sanctioned and ordered “leaks” to journalists occur.

Fingers crossed! To elaborate on previous post. we have lots of good podcast options with a talk show type format. Many different options with different opinions. Our hard news options are more limited and fragmented.
Point being, an outed source can now go after the Company’s assets rather than the journalist, as the Company has established de facto liability, voluntarily.
This isn’t about political stakes, this is about civil reach within the law. The company made its political decision and rests comfortably not realizing that it has opened itself to practically unlimited liability.
In the case of a Company journalist going the full distance in a contest between the State and the Source, the Company now has a choice to either seize the journalist’s papers and out the Source or the Company “goes to jail” until it complies. The journalist is no longer the fulcrum in the contest. What’s the equivalent pressure applied to a company in a prison confinement scenario?
I have no doubt this confiscation occurred at the behest of the government, just as the MSM engaged in widespread censorship to assist the government in skirting the First Amendment.

During the early 90s, Sen Trent Lott (R-MS) as the Senate Leader arranged for USDA loans to be made to Russia so they could buy frozen chickens grown in MS, LA, etc.
Of course the US farmers benefited, but more importantly, the deal was done to help feed the Russian people stuck in a collapsing RU economy and thereby prevent panic and a new destructive revolution from occurring in Russia.

In November, soon after the Hamas terror attack of Oct.7 in southern Israel, mysterious graffiti appeared in the capital of France and in surrounding Paris suburbs. (Not the billion African Muslims who live there?)
More than 60 Jewish stars had been spray-painted, which began being observed in late October. They were all identical, and seemed connected to the ongoing war in Gaza, given some of them were accompanies by written slogans including, “From the [Mediterranean] Sea to the [Jordan] River, Palestine will be free.”
It was widely interpreted as a threat to Jewish people. Subsequently, a Moldovan couple was arrested and they were alleged to have ties to a “pro-Russian” Moldovan intermediary.

But contradictions abounded, seen in the fact that many news articles of the time include statements like the following buried deep within them: “Investigators have said they aren’t convinced the graffiti can be classed as antisemitic, but they are concerned about possible Russian meddling at such a sensitive time.”

If those “voting machines” are like the ones we use in Collin County, TX … they are “technically NOT hooked to the internet” … BUT … after one casts their votes … the print-out, bar coded ballot IS FED INTO A LAPTOP COMPUTER.
Nobody ever see’s what the laptop does as it reads the BAR CODE and NOT the printed out vote selections. I have complained and asked the questions … but have yet to get an answer but I did get allot of ugly looks.
