CBS faces uproar after seizing investigative journalist’s files

The timing of Herridge’s termination immediately raised suspicions in Washington. She was pursuing stories that were unwelcomed by the Biden White House and many Democratic powerhouses, including the Hur report on Joe Biden’s diminished mental capacity, the Biden corruption scandal and the Hunter Biden laptop. She continued to pursue these stories despite reports of pushback from CBS executives, including CBS News President Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews.
For many of us who have worked in the media for decades, this action is nothing short of shocking. Journalists are generally allowed to leave with their files. Under the standard contract, including the one at CBS, journalists agree that they will make files available to the network if needed in future litigation. That presupposes that they will retain control of their files. Such files are crucial for reporters, who use past contacts and work in pursuing new stories with other outlets or who cap their careers with personal memoirs.
These files may contain sources who were given confidentiality by Herridge. The company is suggesting that the privilege of confidentiality (and the material) rest ultimately with CBS. As a threshold matter, that cannot be the case with regard to files that were generated during Herridge’s long stint with Fox News. Yet CBS appears to be retaining those files, too.

First. think of all the many people at CBS — without hacking — who would have access to its computer system (assuming most of these “files” are not hard copies).
She just cavalierly uploaded stuff containing super-confidential material to an employer’s system, bad enough, but also including stuff that predated her employment? That’s not exactly protecting confidentiality. (Assuming there really was all that much in the ubiquitous “confidential source” reporting.)
Second, she kept no backups on her personal devices?

If CBS uses any cloud based systems the number of people multiplies. This has always been true. When you join an organization the location of work files is given to you. You do not have a choice. I read that TV programming and commercial breaks have trained people to have very limited attention spans. I can only imagine how much worse it is, now that people have gravitated to ‘smart’ phones for their daily dose of news and entertainment.

Call me stupid but I pay extra to avoid commercials on my streaming services. I got to the point where commercials were so annoying I couldn’t stand them anymore (especially when Biden popped up) and the mute button just wasn’t doing it for me. So it costs a few bucks each month but to me it’s well worth it. BTW I never, ever watch network tv.

Btw the first chapter of Daniel mentions “Israel”, meaning there were no “10 lost tribes” hundreds of years after the Assyrian take down of the northern kingdom.

The four major prophets all lived between the Assyrian captivity of Israel and the Babylonian captivity of Judah.

The hundreds of fufilled prophecies of Messiah, originating from “adverse witnesses” make it a mathematical certainty the the bible as it is constructed today came from outside our space-time domain.

BTW, I find it fascinating that Christians set their scriptural Canon, including the Old Testament, prior to Jews setting theirs. (If we can truly call the competing canons set.)
Christians tended to rely on a translation to Greek made long before Christ.
This translation hints that there already was an unofficial Canon. And it had already made it to the diaspora, where gentiles could read them without knowing Hebrew long before Christians came along and relied on it.
But, there are differences. And the Dead Sea Scrolls have differences too.
I dearly wish we had Scriptures surviving even longer than that.
What was Ezra’s Bible?
What did they have before Ezra? (Ezra was sent to fix the mess that was created after captivity.)
What was the scripture that they “found” in the Temple? (Even before captivity)
What did they have before that?
These open questions go so far back, that we can’t even start to identify what the Bible was, let alone if it is true or not.
That is not accurate. The Torah and the other Old Testament scriptures existed before any “Bible” was ever published.
The Greek translations of the New Testament could not have existed until AFTER Christ due to common sense.
The differences in translations whenever they occurred is due to who was translating, how they were translating and what their motives were/are.
Just because some don’t understand or unstudied in this subject matter doesn’t mean there aren’t others who are.

BTW, There were a lot of gentiles who were called “God fearers”. Believing, worshipping the Jewish God, just not quite willing to make that final cut. This formed a ripe field of possible converts for Paul and other missionaries. (Though Paul had to fight about not requiring that cut.)
I do agree about the “existed before any Bible was published” line. That describes what I am talking about. Not only did they exist, before Christ, their translations existed too. The Dead Sea scrolls existed before Christ. Copies of the Septuagint had spread around the empire long before Christ.
The change from scrolls to books happened after Christ. And the term bible wasn’t applied to the Scriptures until the 4th century. John Chrysostum is reputed to have done that.

I offered this a few days ago in a slightly different form: Joseph Campbell was a mythographer who became famous for a 4-volume analysis of the world’s myths and religions, which he at times distilled into shorter books.
He found a basic pattern throughout the world’s myths and religions about heroes and their lives. For Campbell, the stories were not “myths” in the sense that they were impossible stories with no truth.
In fact, it was just the opposite: myths and religious stories carried certain truths about Life, and so…
Joseph Campbell’s analysis of heroic myths rings true because heroic myths are based upon the reality of human behavior!
The brave person must first resolve that s/he has the bravery, persistence, confidence, introspection, and creativity needed for the quest.
Persistence is the first key: it may be unconsciously instinctive to be brave one time, but can you be brave again and again and again? Persistence, because Evil is persistent, Evil never dies, and the brave person must stay brave throughout the quest.
And the hero or heroine, who must go on a quest will have doubts, will be opposed, will be defeated, but the quest must continue, and Confidence becomes important after those doubts, after those defeats, so that success is attained.
Confidence depends upon the quality of introspection, of self-examination, so that the gears of the personality are working together, for if the gear of bravery falters, so does everything else. But that gear is linked inextricably to all the others.
And to rise from the dust after a defeat, to return from exile after a defeat, the heroic person must be Creative, must have the ability to learn why the defeat occurred, and to fashion new ideas to find a new path toward success.
I have left out the most important quality of the hero/heroine for the end: Love. The heroic person loves other people, loves them so much that s/he will sacrifice everything, will forfeit his/her own life for the sake of the quest, for the sake of a duty which must be done.
It has not been sufficiently appreciated that, every time President TRUMP appears in public, he is literally putting his life on the line. We Conservatives perhaps realize it, but dislike thinking about it. Yet it is the truth.
And so, “The Myth of the Hero” is no myth, a term often misused to mean unreality: in fact, heroes and heroines indeed follow a pattern based upon real people who have been heroic, especially over a long period of time.
We still have years to go in order to Make America Great Again: wrecking something can take a fraction of a second these days. Building or re-building needs much more time!
Because there is a last thing necessary for the quest of the hero to be successful: support of friends and believers in the quest!
WE are that support and must remain supportive and must have all those qualities listed above in our own daily quests!
Ulysses/Odysseus had his sailors, Joan of Arc had an army, and Jesus had his disciples and believers.
We have President TRUMP and obviously his quest is doomed without us! He will succeed, only if we succeed in spreading his true message and stopping those who would stop him through election fraud.
The future of America, and the heroic quest of President TRUMP, depends on the answer to a simple question: Will we allow another fraudulent election?
Remarkable people/heroes are sometimes made by circumstance.
While other people see the perilous road ahead, but still step onto the field while making their own circumstance along the way, this is our President Trump. This is a truly remarkable to witness and participate in, a true Heroes Journey by any measure.

Last night I was out with close friends of 45 years they were both talking about how much they like President Trump’s policies but think his mean tweets, now just his rhetoric about other people, are childish and he is a bully. There is so much I could have said but just didn’t. The number one thing is, the reason for his so-called “mean tweets” is to get the truth out there and the fact that he is relentlessly attacked 24/7. I chose not to engage because I hadn’t seen my good friends in a year and chose to just move the conversation along. I also know they will be voting for him.
Too bad you didn’t take the opportunity. Your friends are the ones that opened that door. Aren’t we bound to speak truth in the wake of all the lies we face. “Mean tweets”? We are living in the most evil times under evil control…..Your friends are in the dark.
I recall an incident from my high school years.
In the boys locker room, a bully was harrassing his victim, while the other boys shied away, just grateful the bully hadn’t chosen to pick on them.
Then, one boy stepped forward, and tapped the bully on the shoulder.
When the bully turned around, the boy grabbed his shirt front, slammed the bully against the wall, holding him up on his tip toes and wedged against the wall, and making it clear the bullys behavior was unacceptable and what would happen to the bully if he ever tried it again.
The point is, if someone were to walk in at just that point, they may very well confuse the boys behavior with bullying, not understanding that you can not talk a bully out of bullying, in essence you have to respond to bullying by bullying, cause its the only thing a bully respects.
The vast majority, unfortunately do NOT learn that the ONLY way to respond to a bully, is to confront them.

One of those lessons occurred in high school: the little brother (a Freshman) of a friend (we were Seniors) was being terrorized by two Seniors in the rest room.
