Mr Redden has been before this Judge before. NV has a 3 strikes law. He may have flipped out because he could be facing 5 to 20 years mandatory sentencing under the 3 strikes law. Sad he couldn’t “do the math” before his most recent crime.

There cannot be a sentencing hearing without a conviction.

I like the younger guy in the suit (to the left of the judge). At first glance, he didn’t seem like much…. but he sure got with it! He didn’t even hesitate to jump on the attacker to try to defend the judge, and as soon as he got the chance, he started pummeling the guy. If he wasn’t a cop, I mean if he was just a clerk or something, that was pretty impressive.
That would be her judicial clerk. Very interesting to watch his reactions as it all unfolded – especially the horrified look as he shook his head about her condition and told someone to call a doctor.

Felt similarly. Plenty of judges deserve to get this treatment and got worse back in tar and feather days. Don’t know enough about this judge to know if this was warranted (probably not by the thug who did it), but I find myself taking a pause when anything happens to gov people where twenty years ago I would have been the first to jump to their defense.

I am surprised that he was not in restraints. Most of the judges I have ever been in contact with or known were big believers in concealed carry, and always had a handgun either on them or within easy reach. This MF gave fair verbal warning just before he launched himself over the bench. The shock on her face gave her away as not being prepared at all by his behavior upon his sentencing. I bet she never has this type of surprise and lack of awareness again in her courtroom. He is now looking at assault charges against an officer of the law, minimum sentencing will not be applicable and he will occupy a cell for a lengthy period of time now.

maybe this sounds cynical, but maybe, just maybe at least one particular judge that has learned up close and personal that not enforcing reasonable criminal statutes have consequences that are in fact measurable..in physical pain meters.

The marshal was also injured and had to be transported to hospital following the brutal attack.
In the footage he can be heard repeatedly punching Holthus and screaming at her using explicit language, meanwhile security officers attempted to restrain the crazed criminal.
The female judge can be heard pleading with the criminal and begging him to get off her.
Redden was ironically being sentenced for aggravated battery with substantial bodily harm just before he launched his attack.

Of course wrongful convictions could be a deterrent to crime…when I worked in correctional health care, processing the Cook Co inmates who had been sentenced, on Fridays, was a joke…in the mid 90’s, they all wore their convictions as a badge of honor. The first timers were terrified, recidivists, not so much.
