Stephanie Jones is originally from OZ, although she now resides in Germany where she serves on the faculty of a well-known university (can’t recall which one, alas). While I’ve always enjoyed her playing, tonight I realized I hadn’t seen her performances in awhile. A little digging showed that, for some reason, she wasn’t quite as visible as other similarly important or recognizable Youtube names.
The reasons for this are various and not worth exploring—-a little searching turned up this exquisite concert for the Cleveland Classicval Guitar Society. This is truly great playing. Enjoy, friends . . .

In case your interested in learning what “life On The Road” for a touring classical guitarist is like, I can highly recommend Julian Bream’s excellent “Life On The Road“.
Bream’s book is quite well written (no surprise there) and give’s a well informed view of what on=the-road-performing in places like India and upstate NY can be like. Highly recommended. You’ll find it available for not much much money on Amazon.

Very well said, Bet. Although I intentionally don’t perform, I have addressed large audiences. My professor friend taught classes a big as 600. I sometimes taught classes of 400 or so. I can promise that when you walk out on that stage before that many people . . . it’s showtime. If you aren’t on your toes out there, you can feel the attention slopping.
The genuine virtuosos can hold audiences in the
palms of their hands when they perform. With Segovia you could hear a pin drop. It was the very same with Bream (I think you’d enjoy his book, btw). I got the same feeling with Stephanie. Got to hear her in person . . 🙂

Revelation 6:9-11 “And when He had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: and they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, do You not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said to them, that they should rest yet for a little season; [not] until their fellow-servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.”
Luke 12:4-9 “And I say unto you My friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear. Fear Him, which after He has killed has power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear Him. *Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows. * note: Five sparrows sold for 3 cents, and was about the poorest meal that could be bought. The reason it is mentioned is for calling attention to the fact, that God knows what extreme poverty His children may probably have in this world, for being His elect: and for us to know, that when God knows every sparrow that is taken for a poor man’s dinner; He well knows also how His children are taken as if they were meat to be devoured by the wicked.
In light of the fact, that as the body of Christ, we are with Him made partakers in the fellowship of His sufferings, so that we might also partake in the power of His resurrection and glory; we should take for an example of faithful endurance and true piety, all the myriads of our beloved and most precious brothers and sisters through the ages; which bore up under the wrongs and the cruelties of the wicked done unto them for Jesus’ sake; and take to heart as OUR PORTION IN THIS LIFE, just as our Lord said; Not to be afraid of them who kill the body, but afterwards have no more that they can do.

Diocletian mounted the imperial throne, A.D. 284; at first he showed great favor to the Christians. In the year 286, he associated Maximian with him in the empire; and some Christians were put to death before any general persecution broke out. Among these were Felician and Primus, two brothers.
Marcus and Marcellianus were twins, natives of Rome, and of noble descent. Their parents were heathens, but the tutors, to whom the education of the children was intrusted, brought them up as Christians. Their constancy at length subdued those who wished them to become pagans, and their parents and whole family became converts to a faith they had before reprobated. They were martyred by being tied to posts, and having their feet pierced with nails. After remaining in this situation for a day and a night, their sufferings were put an end to by thrusting lances through their bodies.
Zoe, the wife of the jailer, who had the care of the before- mentioned martyrs, was also converted by them, and hung upon a tree, with a fire of straw lighted under her. When her body was taken down, it was thrown into a river, with a large stone tied to it, in order to sink it.
In the year of Christ 286, a most remarkable affair occurred; a legion of soldiers, consisting of six thousand six hundred and sixty-six men, contained none but Christians. This legion was called the Theban Legion, because the men had been raised in Thebias: they were quartered in the east until the emperor Maximian ordered them to march to Gaul, to assist him against the rebels of Burgundy. They passed the Alps into Gaul, under the command of Mauritius, Candidus, and Exupernis, their worthy commanders, and at length joined the emperor. Maximian, about this time, ordered a general sacrifice, at which the whole army was to assist; and likewise he commanded that they should take the oath of allegiance and swear, at the same time, to assist in the extirpation of Christianity in Gaul. Alarmed at these orders, each individual of the Theban Legion absolutely refused either to sacrifice or take the oaths prescribed. This so greatly enraged Maximian, that he ordered the legion to be decimated, that is, every tenth man to be selected from the rest, and put to the sword. This bloody order having been put in execution, those who remained alive were still inflexible, when a second decimation took place, and every tenth man of those living was put to death. This second severity made no more impression than the first had done; the soldiers preserved their fortitude and their principles, but by the advice of their officers they drew up a loyal remonstrance to the emperor. This, it might have been presumed, would have softened the emperor, but it had a contrary effect: for, enraged at their perseverance and unanimity, he commanded that the whole legion should be put to death, which was accordingly executed by the other troops, who cut them to pieces with their swords, September 22, 286.
Alban, from whom St. Alban’s, in Hertfordshire, received its name, was the first British martyr. Great Britain had received the Gospel of Christ from Lucius, the first Christian king, but did not suffer from the rage of persecution for many years after. He was originally a pagan, but converted by a Christian ecclesiastic, named Amphibalus, whom he sheltered on account of his religion. The enemies of Amphibalus, having intelligence of the place where he was secreted, came to the house of Alban; in order to facilitate his escape, when the soldiers came, he offered himself up as the person they were seeking for. The deceit being detected, the governor ordered him to be scourged, and then he was sentenced to be beheaded, June 22, A.D. 287.
The venerable Bede assures us, that, upon this occasion, the executioner suddenly became a convert to Christianity, and entreated permission to die for Alban, or with him. Obtaining the latter request, they were beheaded by a soldier, who voluntarily undertook the task of executioner. This happened on the twenty-second of June, A.D. 287, at Verulam, now St. Alban’s, in Hertfordshire, where a magnificent church was erected to his memory about the time of Constantine the Great. The edifice, being destroyed in the Saxon wars, was rebuilt by Offa, king of Mercia, and a monastery erected adjoining to it, some remains of which are still visible, and the church is a noble Gothic structure.
Faith, a Christian female, of Acquitain, in France, was ordered to be broiled upon a gridiron, and then beheaded; A.D. 287. Quintin was a Christian, and a native of Rome, but determined to attempt the propagation of the Gospel in Gaul, with one Lucian, they preached together in Amiens; after which Lucian went to Beaumaris, where he was martyred. Quintin remained in Picardy, and was very zealous in his ministry. Being seized upon as a Christian, he was stretched with pullies until his joints were dislocated; his body was then torn with wire scourges, and boiling oil and pitch poured on his naked flesh; lighted torches were applied to his sides and armpits; and after he had been thus tortured, he was remanded back to prison, and died of the barbarities he had suffered, October 31, A.D. 287. His body was sunk in the Somme.
Hebrews 12:4 “You have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.”
Perhaps the Lord will be angry with me, and most probably I lack the knowledge and understanding of His ways, but I for one am sick of the suffering the Children of God have endured. We without doubt take it upon ourselves to “man up” to things we have done against His wishes and commandments, and to suffer these corrections. However I beg of the creator to at least “ease our pain” – We are not the enemy.
Agreed. Accounts of such horror befalling His precious children indeed make me wonder how Jesus could speak of a Father’s love for His children. What father could stand idly by and let such vicious men abuse the righteous and not intervene when He has the ability and power to do so. At least grant death to those who suffer without prolonged agony.
I’ve resigned myself to try and patiently accept His plan and will above mine. Perhaps what terrifies me more than anything is if I would withstand such abuse and not disown my God and creator. I hope and pray that God grants me the perseverance at such a time.
Thanks for the post Michael. It is important to remember those who so patiently suffered so as to ensure Europe eventually saw Christianity embraced.

You don’t have to thank me for the post. It was not for “a reminder” of how Europe became Christian! It was for whoever might still have a tinge of conscience left, and fear of God, to compare: what did they have, that we don’t have, that so stirred up the devil against them?
How could you “agree” to open your mouth against the Father, to slander Him with accusation against His love and character? What are you thinking who you are, to so flippantly blaspheme and slander God? I hate that kind of wicked mouth against God. I’ve heard so many so-called pastors or teachers use that kind of arrogance and insolence, thinking that they are ministering to those who are in the gall of bitterness; but they are only lending their mouth to the devil.
If you don’t know what taking up your cross, and suffering for the Gospel’s sake, is really about; how the Lord teaches about it; its better to hold your peace and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Remember the word that Jesus said to us, The servant is not greater than his lord, nor the disciple above his master: if they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. And everyone who lives godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Dan, I believe that a person should NOT be afraid to be TOTALLY honest in front of God – in their talks and prayers. If at that moment or any moment we are confronted with “agonies of the heart” and we talk to our Creator about it – in humility and respect of course – we are coming before Him with “our” truth. The Psalm 145:18 ” The LORD is near to all who call on Him, To all who call on Him in truth.” If as in our example, that is exactly how we feel at that time, we should talk to Him about it. How else will we come to our own deep and satisfying answer? The Lord will not let an honest “from the heart” inquiry go unanswered. We may not like the answer, or we may need to “accept” that some things are beyond our current understanding – at least we will have made an honest and open discussion, where nothing is off the table. Our intention is to get closer, to have and understand a deeper relationship. One cannot achieve that if we view Him as tyrannical, and are scared to death of “upsetting” Him. Every religious scholar from every faith will flood a person with verses telling them to “obey” and not to question – I disagree. I do however agree with Michael that in no way should we “slander” God or disrespect His Holy Authority in any way, especially to others or in actions, however I do hold that an honest “question” from an honest (broken) heart will never be offensive to our Creator .
PS – just to clarify “…….and not to question – I disagree” – I don’t disagree with the verses, I do feel however that pounding verses upon a person seeking answers/clarification, firstly doesn’t answer that persons questions, not does it leave the person with that “loving” feeling. Which at the end of the day is what it’s all about – not so.
True, but when we’re listening and waiting for the answer, we also expect that God understands how simple we are, and is likely to give us simple answers: Yes, No, We’ll see, etc. I think that if God is silent about something we ask, and ask, and keep asking over years; it doesn’t necessarily mean a No! Zachariah and Elizabeth asked for a long time, until they were well past any natural hope for a son. But God never told them No; He held His peace and had their prayers kept in remembrance, till He would answer them in the way that He chose.
I believe that there are a lot of reasons, like you say, that we are not given just now to know; which have to do with the things of God in the unseen, and for His long term purposes of judgment, and faith, and reward in the time to come. Still, we have to walk by faith, and make the most of our opportunities, to remember and put in practice what He has told us to do.
I perfectly understand about “an honest “question” from an honest (broken) heart.” I think of a very nice line from the movie, “Aunt Mary” how her good friend and neighbor said to her bitter words, “I recognize pain speaking.” (or something to that effect). And though we would want more than anything to relieve the one we love, and free them from their pain and sadness; we should have compassion on the words of one who is desperate; and rather intercede, than reprove words which they don’t really mean, but don’t know how to express it.
I don’t know how the Lord would be angry at you for not liking sufferings. That’s the part where our faith in Him, and holding our integrity in spite of the trials and contradictions we have in this life. Its not because we are God’s enemies, but because we are His children in His image, and redeemed by the blood of Jesus, that the devil persecutes us. I don’t think that any of us in this country, really have any idea of what it means to be under death threat for being Christians. There may be a number of reasons for that. First, no doubt, is that God has shielded us from trials that would be too tough for us. And next to that, the persecution is part of the fellowship of sufferings, taking up our cross of the world’s hatred and opposition and saying every wicked thing against us falsely for Jesus’ sake.
You are right about “manning up” with regard to the sufferings we caused ourselves by sin and stupidity; and having to deal with health issues, or the consequences of other people’s evil doings, that hurt us along the way. But when we look back at the terms of our probation, which the LORD God pronounced on our species at the beginning; sweat in the face, toil and sorrow, etc. until we return to the dust where we came from; is really a fair and merciful sentence, while we look for His salvation in Christ. We haven’t died in our sins, and we really haven’t paid for all the wrongs we’ve done. That’s not to make light of our poor condition in this life; but we should keep things in perspective.
Jesus spent all His time delivering people from the cruelty and oppression of the devil, and teaching, or at least trying to teach, the things of God to us, who DESPERATELY need all the help and understanding we can get. The goodness and willingness of God has NEVER been the question, no matter how much the devil gets people to think so. The problem is man’s willingness and obedience to the truth, when God tells it to us.
Jesus begged His Father, that if it was possible, to take away this cup from Him. But it was not possible for Jesus; and it is not possible for us, when we belong to Him. I hope that every Christian will start to have a clearer understanding about ALL that Jesus taught us, about faith and love and how where our treasure is, there will our heart be also. If we were of the world, the world would love us. But because we are not of the world, just as Jesus is not of the world; therefore the world hates us. And what is it really about this fading away and decaying sinful world, that we would think that this is all that God wants for us to be happy in? If we find our life in this evil world, we will lose it; because this world passes away. If we lose our life, in every sense of the word, then Jesus says, we will find it unto life eternal.
It is my understanding that the martyrs from the Dark Ages did not suffer when such barbaric cruelty was inflicted upon them. They are reported to have gone to their deaths singing hymns and praying to God like Steven did praising God when stoned to death and said, “I see Jesus standing at the Father’s right hand.”
Actually it is said that Jesus died of a broken heart, not from the crucifixion. The soldier’s sword brought water and blood from Jesus’ body when he stuck a sword into Jesus’ side. That would clearly indicate that Jesus was already dead when the sword pierced Him. It sometimes took a week or so to actually die from crucifixion.

Really! And what kind of bodies do you think they had then? And what makes you think that Stephen didn’t feel the stones pummeling him, and cracking his skull? Or that when any of those barbaric cruelties were done to real live human flesh, while they were still alive, somehow couldn’t feel it? That is absolutely ridiculous! And an absurd and calloused heart, that would even imagine something like that! The only reason we would not want to believe that someone feels the pain of the violence when they are killed, is because it scares us to death to even imagine it. That’s why they’re always so quick to say, about someone who was violently destroyed, “They didn’t feel it;” because the thought of feeling it is too terrible; and it gives a false sense of relief from having to deal with the wickedness for what it really is. The moment someone slams into the ground from a tall building, they feel it! The moment the spirit leaves the body, they know it! Living people feel until they are dead.
And if they really didn’t feel the cruel tortures and violence done to them; why then do they cry to God for vengeance? And why is the Day of Vengeance in God’s heart? And why will He then burn up the wicked in such a heat as will melt the very elements? So they don’t feel it, what they have done to others, and what God sees they deserve?
I’m not talking about the real hell that will burn like a furnace. Yes, the wicked will have to feel the pain. I’m talking about martyrs who are singing hymns. I don’t think you can sing, say for example, Joy to the World while experiencing bone crushing pain. And Jesus did not cry for vengeance when nailed to the cross. He said, Father forgive them because they know not what they do.
Does not the Bible say:
Romans 12:19-21 The Passion Translation (TPT)
For the Scriptures say: “Vengeance is mine, and I will repay,” says the Lord.
I have not read Foxes Book of Martyrs except for the excerpt posted here. It looks like it is calculated to scare the beejiggers out of you. It’s my belief that one serves God out of love, not out of fear.

Israel Update:
-The US froze a shipment of 20,000 M16 rifles for civilian defense. They say that they need guaranties against Settler’s violence. Note: I have already mentioned previously that this is a false situation. Israel should use Israeli rifles.
-I mentioned yesterday 8 soldiers dead. It was actually 10 and another high Brigade commander. Israel is all into the sorrow and a lot of speculations of why soldiers are going door to door instead of flattening everything. There are arguments for it but there is a general perception that the Biden’s pressures are related. Defense Minister was asked directly and said that : “Those are military decisions and not political”. So I guess I am waiting the Chief of Staff to answer it. I am sure they will learn some lessons. But Israel is mourning and everyone is sad. Those are some of the best people we have that we lost.
-Images of Gazan refugees, children, in the tents and rain are showing up. Note: There was also footage of children cheering when they heard of the Israeli soldiers death.
But I mentioned it before. Palestinians perfected “the art of the victim”, I expect to see many videos to play on the emotions of the West.

She knows them all by name and personally. She was also an Intelligence Officer. Her name is Betty Lahat.

You said that you know Sinwar? I knew him and all the other scumbags who were released in his exchange deal and those who stayed which he promised them that he will release them. I hope it will not happen. That we will release our hostages in another way. I hope we will not release the others who have the same ideology and thinking like him. They are not much different than him. He simply seemed like having megalomania and we see it today too. Also in the prison he never stood upfront. He always sent others. Beyond what we know that he slaughtered people that he suspected as collaborators he usually sent others to murder those he thought were collaborators because he didn’t like to get punished.
He never stood at the front. Always behind others and he does the same now this coward.
He always knew how to protect his butt. He almost died. He had a kind of a violent cancer. And the State of Israel saved his life. And he was not up to saying “Thank you”. I asked him “now that we saved your life do you have a good word to say?” He said “It’s your job”.
This is how we educated them all those years. That it’s our jobs to save their lives.
Let me tell you something emotional. I read yesterday that in Gaza yesterday they find Israeli medical documents of a child who got Cancer treatment in Israel.
My daughter was in a Hospital, years ago and it’s hard for me to talk about it.
There were two children who were taken care of (from Gaza) who everybody loved and there were Liberal people from humanitarian groups and gave them gifts and took care of their parents, and gave them hotels to live in so they don’t have to go to Gaza back and forth and they had drivers who took them back and forth and we were all full of compassion.
And, I met them in the arrival area of the prison, terrorists! And when you talk with them they don’t get it “why are you so surprised to see them arriving to prison?” So yesterday they find in Gaza documents of a child who got a cancer treatment in Israel among all the explosives and weapons.
So I want to say that I don’t believe there are uninvolved there. I know their families.
I served 5 years in Gaza too. I know them. Same people who we felt mercy for them when they were small and now we have all the killers who entered Israel and slaughtered women and children. Those are the same people who we called “uninvolved” from 20 years ago.
With your knowledge of Sinwar, what shakes him the most? The bodies of Arabs or the Hanukkah lamps in Gaza ? Obviously the Lamps and the Israeli flags in Gaza.
He has no value for human life of others. Piles of bodies don’t do him anything, it’s absolutely nothing for him. I can reconstruct his facial expression and motions, the Hanukah lamps and the Israeli flags and the Israeli soldiers at his strongholds is what ruins his health.
Everyone can die there, it’s nothing for him. And he will surrender, he is a coward.
He will not want to die. He will rather get back to prison and hope for another exchange.
He is the one who prepared the lists to be released at the exchange years ago.
There were 41 prisoners who were responsible for the murder of some 570 Israelis and we continue to take care of those scumbags. Now Marwan Barghuty is next (An Arch terrorist and leader who leads popularity poles in the West Bank to lead the Palestinian Authority).
You know him too? Yes. I had a confrontation with him and I had to be under security protection after I didn’t give him the privileges he thought he deserves. I hear Israeli leaders think he can lead the Palestinian Authority. He is ideologically a terrorist more than Sinwar. But he knows to talk “sweet” and some Israeli ministers like him and visited him to prepare his release even before 10/7.
I don’t have an agenda. I am not political. I am talking through 35 years of experience.
I had the female terrorists who kidnapped the Sabena airplane and those who put bombs in university and in Zion cinema and in buses. I am telling you, “friends wake up, I love you but look”.
Why no one listened to you? Who am I to be listened to? I remember when we did searches in cells. A prisoner who murdered Nachshon Vacsman. He went to a court and said “the wardens broke his glasses and stole from his cell when they searched.” The Judge said “you will compensate him and from now on a prisoner will inspect every search that is done in the cells.” I am telling the people of Israel. There is interference of politicians and therefore we arrive at the situation of vacation camps in jails.
Note: The Israeli prisons were like vacation camps. With academic education and their own kitchen that they can bake etc… The new Interior Security Minister who is over it is aggressively cutting it off to bare minimum. It tells me one thing. The war is on the minds more than on land. Most Israelis would be happy to give them a State of this meant peace. But is doesn’t. Its alright, brother; you do what you can, and trust in the Lord. And you can only take so much! Do take heart though; for the Lord is still on the throne, and EVERYTHING is under control! We keep praying for God to defend the righteous and innocent; and to cause Israel to once and for all really know that the LORD is their God; and that He has not forgotten them, or His covenants with their ancestors. Yes there are thoughts. Egypt and Jordan don’t want those places back. For three reasons : 1. The Palestinians are no known to be peaceful and caused problems in the past in Jordan, Lebanon, etc…. Egypt also afraid of their Muslim Brotherhood inclination. 2. The Palestinian issue is a thorn in the neck of Israel and they are still hateful to Israel. 3. Economy, to be responsible for Palestinians is expensive. They don’t produce enough to be self supporting.
I will going as long as there is daily news. If there is no daily news I will lower the frequency but will keep going until I feel it’s not needed because there is nothing new to tell.

It’s better than you think. I just went through some videos of high command people. Just the one guy in Kahan Yunis said his group killed about 100 terrorists in one week. I also got from other reposts that many battalions are getting results and many terrorists dead. The stress and strain on the every day lives of these wonderful people must be huge.

Just how vicious was the naval war in the Pacific during WW II?
Everyone has heard of the Dolittle Raid. Sixteen B-25 bombers launched from the USS Hornet that bombed Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, and Yokosuka. The raid came at a time when the forces of Imperial Japan had carried all before them. Not a single seasoned Battleship in condition to sail to war left to the US Navy in the Pacific. Wake Island lost. Bataan, Manila, all lost. Over 380,000 allied personnel Killed, wounded, or captured at a cost of 16,000 Japanese.
The raid changed the course of the war. It weighed heavily in the decision by Yamamoto to invade Midway and in doing so draw the US Navy out for a final battle that would destroy the American Carriers and leave Japan the uncontested master in the Pacific. It was in fact a heavy application of makeup in an attempt to cover up the face that had been lost when contrary to all promises to the Emperor and people, the Japanese mainland had been attacked. Yamamoto threatened to resign if his Midway operation was not carried out. That was how deep the raid had cut him.
But that is not what this little essay is about. This essay is about the ships of Task Force 16 that delivered Dolittle’s raiders. Those ships and their fates. There were 18 vessels in TF 16. They were:

USS Hornet CV-8: Sunk at the Battle of Santa Cruz. The burning hulk was abandoned and Japanese surface ships sank it 27 Oct, 1942. This battle left the damaged Enterprise as the only US fleet carrier in the Pacific at the time. Hornet was the last US Fleet carrier sunk by enemy action during WW II.
USS Northampton CA-26: Sunk by two Japanese Long Lance Torpedoes in the Battle of Tassafaronga. A night action fought late at night Nov 30 and into the early morning hours of Dec 1st, 1942. A US Navy cruiser and destroyer force met a Japanese destroyer force tasked with landing reinforcements for the Japanese on Guadalcanal. The battle was a tactical defeat for the US Navy but stopped the Japanese from carrying out their reinforcement mission.
USS Vincennes CA-44: Sunk in the battle of Savo Island 9 August, 1942. The first of several of the night actions fought during the Guadalcanal campaign. It was the worst surface action defeat in US naval history. As a result of this battle US Naval forces departed Guadalcanal with 1/2 of the supplies intended to be landed for the Marines still onboard the ships.
USS Benham DD-397: During the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, another night action, Beham took a Long Lance torpedo that blew off her bow shortly after midnight Nov. 15, 1942 She sank in the afternoon.
USS Gwin DD-433: Damaged in the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal she was dry docked at Mare Island and then returned to action in the Solomons campaign. She was sunk by a Long Lance Torpedoes 13, July 1943 during the Battle of Kolombangara in another night action fought during the Solomons campaign.
USS Meredith DD-434: Sunk by Japanese carrier aircraft while attempting to deliver aviation gas to the Marines on Guadalcanal, 15 Oct, 1942.
USS Monessen DD-436: Another casualty of the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. Reduced to a burning hulk after having put two torpedoes in the Japanese Battleship Hiei she finally rolled over an sank early the afternoon of 13 Nov, 1942.
USS Trout SS-202: Sunk with all hands in the East China Sea during her 11th war patrol. Possibly sunk by a circular run of one of her own torpedoes on 29 Feb, 1944.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

A healthy 30 something has a some arthritis and gets talked into a surgical fix. That is not somebody who needs a surgical replacement.
Arthritis is a problem. And it only gets more painful over time. But major surgery, cutting away good bones, implanting large devices into bones, seems more like a cure for a serious auto accident than for arthritic pain.
Our medical industry is out of control.
And as pt 2 obliquely points out, we aren’t even really choosing. Just accepting options that doctors push on us. How many patients are told of the many failures their devices had before the doctor starts cutting in to them? Pt 2 points out that most don’t even know what device was implanted.
And before anyone starts criticizing me, yes, I suffer from arthritis. It was first diagnosed in ’87. So I know what it is like. And no, I don’t have the answer. But major bone surgery sounds like a way of guaranteeing even more pain in the long run.

Yeast, another word for leaven, is used to make bread rise and become light and airy instead of dense as an unleavened loaf would be. Once leaven has been introduced to a dough, a small portion of the dough can be set aside before baking to provide the leavening (the “starter”) for the next day’s bread.
When Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven was “like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour,” the fact that it all was leavened was understood. If the emphasis is on the way yeast works, you realize that this process is present, though unseen, until the mixture is ready for the oven. You cannot interrupt or reverse it.
The Pharisee Nicodemus came to Jesus by night to try to understand what this teacher from God was proclaiming. Christ’s answer to him was clear, “Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:2-3). Only those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior from sin will enter the kingdom of heaven. Once you believe, it is irreversible, like the process of yeast in bread dough.
The Holy Spirit works to convict hearts, and the believer becomes a light in a world of darkness as he cooperates with and embraces God’s life-transforming work and tells others about his new life in Christ.
The New Testament Church began with a handful of disciples telling the Good News to anyone who would listen. Soon the known world had heard the story. Be persevering today. There are still many who need to hear and realize that Jesus Christ is their Savior. There is work to be done.
