My Father lived to 91, around 80 or so I had power of attorney. I was out visiting him for a few days and I took it upon myself to check his cd’s at the bank. They had a step up clause so I did it and went back to the house and told him. He went ballistic and said I had no right to do it. I increased his interest .50 but he was mad. He then told me he would be the first one to tell me he was incompetent and if he did not tell me then By God He was sane! Clinging to power seems to be a thing even if you are not a Senator. Funny thing he kept the .50 increase and thanked me the next day.
Could be seizure or maybe small TIA attacks those are a major stroke warning. Sad to see him failing like that.

This one was weird. He was there, but not there. He understood and answered the questions from his aids, but couldn’t engage with the question about reelection. The look in his eyes like he knew something was wrong but couldn’t break out of it.
