I call BS…yes there are some that over eat but I know many that do not consume that much in calories but are over weight. There is something in the food (additives) or the way it is grown (GMO). This may affect some people more negatively than others. I have a good friend that has fought weight her whole life. Does not consume alcohol regularly and very little calories consumed daily. Also was always active in daily activities. Can not lose weight but remains same weight over the 20 years I have known her.

Food choices make the person. You eat good fruits veggies and protein, cooked at home and you will be fine. Throw in a daily walk even better. Get off the computers tvs and phones and mental health improves. Yes, it is a series of choices. Don’t eat processed foods and try to drink filtered water. Move everyday as much as possible. Avoid meds you don’t really need by trying to be healthier in lifestyle. Grow fresh foods if you have the space. Get your kids on these healthy foods from day one and they will learn to like them and they will pass healthy habits on to their kids.
Sunlight, air, water, enough sleep and healthy food go a long way towards keeping weight normal and health good. We all can do that even if we are not wealthy. We just have to want to do it.

While I’m not doubting your points, not really talking about those. I admire the national attitude of the Russian people as well as their work. Most large countries have varied regional cultures as well as metropolitan vs rural lifestyles. I simply do not believe that their overall “middle class” prosperity is anywhere close to ours, especially when it comes to self made, independent business opportunties. I know many Russians who have immigrated here to enjoy the benefits of capitalism .Of course, we aren’t looking too good in that area nowadays either.

They quietly retired that commander , dumped him , and he ended up keeping a low profile running an antique shop in Cape Cod… moral of the story perhaps – there are men like PDJT and Lt Col ( later General ) Hal Moore and there are men like Milley and Barr ….? His name is Gen. James McConville. He is now recently retired.
When he was getting approved by Congress and sworn in, there were articles about him and his family. A picture of his testimony in Congress showed members of his family in the background all in uniform as they were all serving in the military. The concern was those who serve come from families who also served and therefore represent such a small slice of society. Too few giving too much.
I think when President Trump was talking about some of these officers looking like they came right out of central casting because they look like the chiseled officers we’d see in the movies, he was talking about officers like Gen McConville.

Experience has taught me that is practically useless, in normal circumstances, to contact ‘legislators’ at the state or federal level (with 3 exceptions in 5 decades) for anything, particularly, policy.
Maybe this time is an exception.

In addition to seeing my parents and my childhood home, I was able to visit some favorite places, the Clark Art Institute, Mount Greylock, Chesterfield Gorge, Fitzwillie’s Restaurant in Northampton (an American outpost in la la Ville) and the Quabbin Reservoir, all in 48 hours.

Not sure if our host SD has time for this naive question, but watching DJT and Kudlow discuss the prospect of king dollar losing its reserve status made me wonder, once again, if a partial solution (I know, I know, fiat currency sucks) might be to gradually raise the fractional reserve requirement for all US financial institutions as dollars that are deemed less valuable abroad come home. A huge part of the ever-growing risk of collapse, as I understand it, is the matter of fractional reserve lending, which blows so much air into the system that bank runs can quickly and easily destroy everything. But raising the fraction, with a stated goal of one-to-one, dollar-for-dollar, for every institution that wants to stay in business—would this not provide a counterweight to balance that risk? Very open to correction here, but it seems obvious to me. Sure, we might end up with a purely national currency that — in the most extreme case — no one would want to use abroad. That will never happen, of course, but even if it did, how would that not be inconsistent with economic nationalism?
There is one very-obvious solution: “Make America Great Again.” And no, this time it’s not just an acronym on a red hat.
Eighty(!) years ago, the USA possessed an industrial powerhouse which could literally create bombers, weapons, and ships from bauxite and iron ore that it had mined. And it did. That industrial prowess could actually(!) be re-created. If we wanted to, badly enough.
There is exactly one place on earth where “a US Dollar is worth a Dollar,” and that place is: right here.

My parents lived through that period of powerhouse….Middle class was booming college or no college. By the time I came of age and got married it quickly started to decline .This is when hiring by race started to kick in. By the time we were 50’s working for the man was no longer viable. Had to strike out and buy our own jobs and became part of the 1099ers. Even then the restriction and taxes make it very hard to be successful. Trump gave big corporate huge tax breaks in the hopes of building that powerhouse so I get that part but still there is much to be done for small business and the 1099ers. We are taxed too much.
i am not an economist… but my impression is that there is ultimately very little you can do to gloss over decades of poor management by everyone… other than rip the band-aid off and try to re-domesticate (is that a word?) our ability to grow and extract materials and commodities; and produce things that people want and need.
this is the heart of what Trump proposes to do, but IMO even then, we are in for difficult times that are a loooong time coming.
Totally agree we need the full benefit of Trump MAGA economic policies put back in place ASAP and reasserted with anti-globalist tailoring. Plan A, to my mind, is (with Kari Lake) to decertify 2020, but I’ll be voting DJT, for sure. My question was only, much more narrowly, whether or not requiring financial institutions to actually house all (or at least more) of the dollars they supposedly have “on deposit” (which they don’t and which by current law they do not have to) would not have a revaluing effect on the dollar to offset the devaluing effect that would result from the loss of the dollar’s reserve status.

Agree-I have family members in medicine who are ardent covid/vaccine adherents. They look at me/treat me like I am nuts. I had a appointment w a doc who insisted that I wear a mask (I asked if I could take it off while I was explaining my symptoms etc-she said “no you may not”) even though I was a good 15 feet from her in her office. I got up and walked out. She didn’t help anyway-just kept prescribing meds. Except for surgery, modern “medicine” sucks. I feel bad for those who are caught in it due to illness. I had 2 years on their treadmill. I came to the point where I’d rather be dead than do what they were telling me-which did not help my problem a bit and made be feel worse in other ways. I researched and sought alternatives (no meds) and in a year changed outcomes. Stay far away if you can.
