That song was used in the 2007 Rom-Com “I Could Never be Your Woman” with Paul Rudd and Michelle Pfeiffer. In the movie, Pfeiffer’s character had a daughter played by 13-yr old Saoirse Ronan (in her film debut).
Ronan screams out this song, while accompanying herself with the chords on a guitar, in an outdoor talent show. Both my wife and I thought it was horrid and detracted from the movie’ otherwise humorous script way back when we first saw the movie 15 years ago. The tune was obviously meant as some sort of attempt to poetically address tragedy / death / failure in a pop song. Nothing about it is uplifting at all., especially the harsh refrain.
I can’t disagree, I survive this song as so many peeps sing the dang thing @ karaoke, otherwise I’m not a fan of her voice.
There are quite a few artists that fall in the same category, which I will not list here.

Considering I have worsened my normal “zombie” status of the morning by getting up before the clock, and getting a large cup of coffee in me before realizing I got up at around 1:45am as opposed to 2:50am, that might help me sorta wake up a bit.

What struck me strongly is that Johnson’s style was very much a strumming and slapping style, not at all like the Piedmont-style alternating dead-thumb and fingerpicking style like Rev Gary Davis and all the “blinds” (Blind Blake, Blind Lemon Jefferson, etc) that I was more familiar with. That fingerpicking style “rolls” along. Johnson’s style is more percussive and slappy.
The difference is very striking, and it’s clear that both Eric and Doyle had studied Johnson’s style thoroughly

One could argue they’re playing got better with age. BTW … if you’ve never seen it … you have to watch “Beware Mr. Baker”. A close look at a nutty, nutty, guy … but I was still left with great admiration. It wasn’t too complimentary of Clapton taking ALL of the Royalties of Cream music … when Ginger insisted he was massively influential in changing the beat and pace of many of their hits … uncredited and uncompensated for his contributions to the writing.

The day they announced Elvis’ death, I was crossing the Intracoastal Waterway bridge in or on the border with Pompano/Fort Lauderdale…a sad day indeed.
I was packing grapes for Giumara Vineyards just east of Bakersfield, CA, earning $ to go back to college. They shut down the entire packing place for half an hour, paid, in honor of his passing.
I heard about his passing while I was on the toilet. Too soon?
My family was “vacationing” visiting grandpa in Tennessee, near Gainesboro.
I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was secretary to the VP of Marketing and Advertising at the CMC Corporation in west St. Louis county so had a radio near me to monitor our radio advertising. I thought one of my friends was really something because she had a copy of a PHOTO that someone she knew had taken when they were at the same hotel as Elvis in Hawaii. I wish I had seen him in person but it never happened. I feel blessed to have been alive and experienced his music.
In the top 10 of my favorite vocals of all time. And what should really blow your mind is how she manages a Deep South southern blues voicing for a girl from a Hampstead Nursery outside London

My dad was meticulous about Tue cars he owned. Insisted it was a mark of civility and good breeding to keep it clean and detailed. He also grew up poor, on a farm in Illinois. So he valued what he had worked for and kept them immaculate.
And this was one lesson I drilled and drilled and drilled into the heads of my grandsons. They have older model cars which they both keep shining on the outside and in perfect non cluttered condition on the inside.

Betsy: Back around 1972, my father bought my sister, then, about 14 years old, her first “Hi-Fi,” for her bedroom. Before that, all we had was the family Victrola, in cabinet, in our living room (Herb Albert, the 5th Generation, The Supremes, etc.). My sister loaded up her new turntable with Deep Purple, Edgar Winters Group, David Bowie, Zeppelin, etc. and that’s when the trouble started!
My sister also played James Taylor, Cat Stevens and Loggins and Messina, but, that’s not what caused all the the trouble. The rock caused the trouble. All of that stuff is now some of my favorite music, along with later 1970s stuff, and early 80s new wave.
What’s old is new again, bill. I wonder if today’s generation will revisit their music when they are older as we do.
I mentioned memories above which flow immediately for me when I hear songs of yesteryear.
This is why I was never ever a fan of music videos. I prefer the visual recollections of where I was when I listened to a particular song to be mine. And not those of someone who compiled a video.

Made a mistake in my last post yesterday. Thought about it this morning. Haven’t gone back to see if anyone caught it but will correct it now.
Invest in the Eastern Pacific is going to become a Tropical Storm or possibly a hurricane according to the models. The models indicate it will track right up the Baja and run up the border between S. CA and AZ to the tip of Nevada.
Yesterday I wrote it would run up the CA and NM border. Duh!
Anyway, this is a good thing for that area because it will bring lots of rain to the Colorado River basin.
About time too, we call it “monsoon season”, has been dry here all summer unlike last summer that in darn near rained everyday, then miraculously downstream the “river dried up for the first time”….. right.
We did have near record snowfall (175% of normal) on the mountain which did not melt off completely til mid to late July, so lack of water was not a problem.
Kept hearing on the radio that river flow records were being obliterated on a daily basis, so climate change is definitely real! /s
Basically it means the forest fire fighters that are staying in multiple hotels around town will be leaving soon and government money can go back to being earmarked to Ukraine.
Still one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac tunes, written and performed by Danny Kirwin who is a tragically under appreciated guitarist for Fleetwood Mac. In reality … much of what is credited to Peter Green … is actually Danny Kirwin. He was a phenomenal blues guitarist, but also had a melancholy sweet side to his playing … such as the almost psychedelic blues licks he plays in Sands of Time.
But perhaps it’s because I can STILL remember this tune playing on the phonograph at the Freshman house party during one of my FIRST make out sessions with a girl in 1971. What a sweet track to make out to. Hey … it was a house party … with people everywhere … nobody got too naked.
RIP Danny Kirwin. I’m so glad your talent can still be enjoyed.

Look at that marble work – of a civilization too advanced to fail by today’s standards. Joe Rogan speaks of a theory that there is some catastrophic event that occurs that causes our civilization to start over with our technology and that this scenario happens repeatedly over the ages.
For instance, the skill and expertise to build the Great Pyramids. Or buildings of the past like the one depicted here – with huge stones skillfully cut and fashioned and then moved into place without the use of modern equipment. They had technology. They had craftsmanship. Why did it stop and what happened to it?
Then something catastrophic happens to wipe the slate clean and cause the remnant left behind to start again with technology.
Einstein said “I know not what weapons will be used to fight World War III, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”
I for one would be most happy to see the earth purged of computers. Can you imagine if children learned from tactile books again? No more phishing scams? No more identity theft? Wealth would be measured in hard currency and not a digitized perception of grandeur? Neighbors would talk to each other to communicate contractor quality referrals? Criminals would be paraded in town so the locals would know who the charlatans of the day are so they would have no hint of anonymity when their prison sentence were served? Might cut down recidivism, or even committing the crime in the first place, if a criminal knew they had nowhere to hide from their brethren.
I think I should have been born 150 years ago.
Imagine falling apart and being rebuilt as often as Egypt did after the pyramids were built. But be careful what you wish for. Because there were often times when Egypt was ruled by outsiders. Nubians, Hyksos, Libyans, Neo Assyrians, Persians, Greeks and Romans.
A 3000 year long history will always be a messy thing.
So, Jim in TN, I guess the question remains: will the rebuild of the USA be from insiders or outsiders?

Especially like how low maintenance these gardens are.
Today’s landscapes are not gardens. They are commodified to put on contract, mow-blow-go, prune, irrigation system, annuals replaced 2x/year, spray chemicals, spread fertilizer. Using plant materials of dubious use to local pollinators. Worse they are designed to be viewed from the street.
Historically the best garden design, begins inside the house, looking out for views on axis. Views to be walked into, in addition to all the other good stuff with pollinators.
Not as much money in Historic, Godly garden design.

It was our approach when we designed our lovely, peaceful, full Welsh garden. Years of course for it to mature, and we were always adding. But it took its own path, and we never sculpted anything.
We had an old what was called a pigsty small stone building viewable from the house. We planted small leafed climbing hydrangea and in short order it grew to cover the whole building. Lost leaves in the winter but came back in resplendent glory every spring.
The view from the open topped Dutch door of our 1869 built house was spectacular. But equally wonderful was the view at the top of the garden (about a fourth of an acre) toward the house.
I miss my garden every single day.
Heavenly Father, thankyou for yet another chance to do the right thing. Please see fit to send your servants north of Tampa some desperately needed rain as my grasses crunch underfoot, Amen.

We spent time with our stylist yesterday. We love her like family. She’s originally from Iran and has a harrowing story. She was given at 13 yo in marriage to her cousin in an arranged marriage. Her cousin was a pilot in the Iranian military and ended up jailed by the government there. He came out of that experience a changed person having undergone torturing in prison.

She told me, too, of stories of lawlessness there. Laws that are in place but simply disregarded. She told me how she, herself, was a victim of being the owner of land there and it sold right out from under her without her approval or permission.
They are praying for TRUMP to return to the White House. Our rightful President is loved by the WORLD because he is just and fair and when Trump is in the White House – the entire world is safer.
I personally pray this morning for 1,000’s of Trumps to STAND UP and be COUNTED among our nation’s leadership and that we be led back to a united nation UNDER GOD and that we would return to a nation of just and righteous laws and order.

So my thought is by taking a cue from Pritzker and his open invitation to anyone residing in a state that has banned abortions to come to Illinois and one will be made available.
Some conservative state should make available any type of ammunition or whatever else is banned in Illinois to any citizen legally requesting access to purchase firearms or ammunition which is their constitutional right.

God’s Word, and often in the Book of Proverbs, tells you that it is important to be attentive and listen in living a life of faith. When you understand, you have comprehended what is said, grasped the central concept, and developed a keen awareness. Wisdom is utilizing that knowledge to make good judgments, applying what you have learned. An obedient child heeds what his parents say. A Christ follower is attentive to the Word of God, applying it rightly.
Have you floundered after making a wrong turn in your spiritual life? When it comes to understanding what God seeks from you, do you still have strong “reception“ to hear Him? The Lord has the ability to turn you the right way regardless of the wrong direction you have been going. Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. I find myself thinking about Jesus weeping in the garden and always wonder if He was seeing all the sin that he was to die for. And I mean all through the years before He comes again.
Because I find myself becoming so aware of the ungodliness, the distress, the falling further away from God that we see today in our time. And those who are suffering so badly as a consequence of it, especially the horrors inflicted on innocent victims by those whose souls have been clearly appropriated by evil.

I don’t have a garden anymore, but I loved gardening, and did it as naturally as possible.
At one time I had a large rhododendron that had scented blossoms, and it attracted masses of butterflies. It was an amazing sight. I also had a large Horse Chestnut tree that would, when covered in hanging blossoms, literally hum from the happy bees covering it.
I read that ‘milkweed’ should be in every garden that appreciates butterflies. I did not know much about the subject of helping beneficial insects, I just used to plant as many bushes and flowers as I could, that I thought would help them survive, and provide a source of water, and hoped maybe they would flourish.
