Troublemaker10: I noticed on a long distance road trip last month that our GPS navigation screen was displaying “extreme heat alerts” along our route from Oregon down through Northern CA. The weather was, indeed, quite hot (up to 109 degrees), but temps above 100 are not unusual at all during mid-summer along Interstate 5, to the east and north of San Francisco. Same with the interior parts of Southern California, which, of course, are mostly desert.
The climate tyrants are most definitely eager to enact Covid-like “emergency powers.” We’ll experience “stay at home” orders; “no drive” mandates, grid cutbacks and other such tyranical measures.

I have read The Hyperion Cantos thru 3 times now, over the years, and the Ilium books. Dan Simmons is probably my favorite living author at this point in life.
I will add my recommendation for two psuedo-historical novels of his, The Terror and The Abominable. Stunning, awe inspiring reading.
He is a many faceted writer of the first degree.
He reminds me of Peter Mathiessen. If you are a Cracker or a Floridian, read “Killing Mr. Watson”.

Simmons also wrote The Terror: A Novel about the lost Franklin polar expedition.

However, Bongino’s main topic today is not really Biden. It’s Obama…and the press. He first points out that the person the media are protecting is not Biden. He stresses that they are shielding Obama (and Clinton and Kerry too.)
Because we all know that Obama knew what Biden was doing and because we know that Hunter was the bagman for Joe Biden, the major question becomes, “Was/IS Joe Biden the bagman for Obama?”

I have even thought of buying a few acres for a community garden with divided expenses and duties. That was my job for many years growing things, landscaping, now it has caused my mobility problems .

Last week I posted a couple articles about the group Jack Smith worked with when he was tasked to the UN Tribunal on Kosovo war crimes. In 2008 -2010 he led the investigation which was started by Sweden’s head of tourism Dick Marty. In 2018-2020 Smith returned as lead prosecutor.
Here is something that popped up in an internet Window I left open from last weeks readings. The UN Special Prosecutor’s office made an arrest yesterday from a war that happened 24 years ago. I dont know the detail of this person but the whole thing looks so shaky. And now one of this group ex-employees has PDJT in his sights.

China dominates the world’s wind, solar and battery technologies, their raw material supply chains and their manufacturing. U.S. politicians may be ramping up talk about reducing dependence on China for critical items related to American economic and national security, they are demanding and pursuing policies that make the USA and West ever more dependent on so-called “clean renewable” energy from wind, solar, battery and fossil powerhouse China.
Does that account for the wind not blowing and the sun not shining?
does it account for the additional energy required to build, design, manufacture, transport, maintain, repair these “green machines”?
one of the engineering issues related to wind and solar is the ability to STORE EXCESS energy…batteries will be necessary to provide a means to store energy…and then to use that stored energy to meet demand when wind and solar energy is not possible. These battery stores will have to be massive in scale and will require constant maintenance, repair, recycle and all of the extraordinary environmental and safety safeguards.
to put this into perspective..the typical tesla model 3 car battery (li-ion design) stores about 50-80 Kilowatt Hours of energy …50 for the base model and 80 for the “long range”. The typical house (average) in the US uses about 20-30 kilowatt hours of energy each 24 hours. So if it was possible to connect a tesla car to the average house on a full charge, it might be able to supply power for about 2 days. and note: this is just average house….we are not including in this discussion…office buildings…commercial facilities…street lights…manufacturing plants…refineries…processors…boats and ships, rail and train..aircraft and airports…fuel stations and stores and shopping centers…trucks and shipping…hospitals..military facilities and military assets…for this illustration we are just talking about residential homes…one average. One tesla car on a full charge can supply the power to the average home for about 2 days.
there is an estimated 88 Million tonnes of lithium on planet earth…only about 40 percent of that is readily and practically available for mining.
the same model 3 tesla car requires about half a million pounds of earth to be mined in order to process the lithium and refine it. How much energy is required to mine half a million pounds of earth…end to end? about 4000 Kilowatt hours of energy…
for ONE car..that “maybe” on a full charge can supply power to the average house for 2 days..maybe.
there are about 280 million cars in america…
so, just for cars…if we expect to replace all cars with model 3 equivalent electric cars…
how much energy and how much earth will be necessary to process and refine…to just make the battery…just to make the battery.
4000 Kilowatt hours of energy multiplied by 280 million !
And again..what form of energy will be required to mine that earth and refine that lithium? oil..natural gas.
how long does the model 3 tesla electric battery last?
about 9 years…on a daily use of just 50 miles…the battery will degrade over that time until state of charge potential diminishes to about 60 percent. And that point, the battery becomes more resistive to charging and requires EVEN MORE ENERGY TO CHARGE IT TO 60 percent than it would require to charge a NEW battery to 100 percent!
and we are not even talking about what kind of energy can be used to charge 290 million cars in america and do it reliably. Because obviously, the example above are just for thought…no one is going to be supplying tesla cars to power homes. But it’s an easy way to make a larger point.
electric vehicles look good on paper…they ARE more efficient…But when you look at the energy required (often never discussed) to build and maintain them…the picture of reality changes…and exposes the silent lies.
now imagine if technology develops a new type of battery that does not require mining half a million pounds of earth? let’s say, the energy is reduced to just half…2,000 kilowatt hours of energy? does this change the big picture?
see, gas and natural gas have an incredible high energy density..and the mining and extraction and processing is very efficient…far far less than that of any type of battery.
in order for NEW GREEN MACHINE to happen, technology will have to develop a new store of energy that surpaces that of oil and natural gas..
it’s just simple economics.
