And who gave You this authority? And Jesus answered and said to them, I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things. The baptism of John, whence was it? From heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; He will say to us, Why did you not then believe him? But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And He said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. But what think you? A man had two sons; and having come to the first he said, Son, go work today in my vineyard: and he answering said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. Also having come to the second he said likewise: and he answering said, I go, sir: and went not. Which of the two did the will of the father? They say to him, The first. What is the simplest and most obvious message for us in this encounter, and how the Lord responds? We have Jesus sitting and teaching in the temple, and then while He is teaching, a group of very important and powerful religious rulers over the community encircle Jesus, and start bullying Him, as if He had been committing a crime. It was not only the content of what He was teaching, but that He had also “dared” to come into their domain without their having authorized it.

Theirs was an authoritarian system; and they were in their own carefully devised set of rules and laws and indisputable boundaries, which no one could deviate from without risk of being thrown out of the congregation. They had taken what was originally intended as a good thing for God’s people; and usurped the power to themselves, to make it their own kingdom instead.

But Jesus’ kingdom is not of this world; and that also includes the kingdoms of the religions of this world. But tyrants are paranoid by necessity. The authority of the chief priests and elders of Israel was from God; the same God which gave to Israel the Law and the Prophets and the Psalms; to instruct them unto Christ. But while they had devised another religion instead of the faith of their fathers; a religion carefully and specifically crafted to keep the people away from the knowledge of the truth, by demanding unwavering subjection to themselves above all; they had set themselves up to be completely opposed to the LORD, and against His Anointed. (Psalm 2)

Now all these things being said; it is not to single out the Jews; as if they should be convicted by themselves; for they have in fact followed the heathen model, which the nations already do, being “wild by nature.” The fact that they are especially mentioned, is for warning and instruction to all men everywhere. For if God did not spare His own beloved and chosen above all others people, from judgment and just punishment for their sins, and refusal to hear or believe; He will not spare the nations, whom He has put under Israel, when they do the same things.

Jeremiah 25:29 “For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by My Name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.” But everything in its time: today we are His witnesses of the truth; and when God decides, He will send Jesus and all His holy angels to wrap everything up. But back to the lesson.

But Jesus did not take it up with them, to set Himself against their authority; howsoever they did not understand it in regard to God’s purposes for establishing it; and utterly abused their positions for their own benefit and enrichment; His business was to bear witness to the truth, and wait upon His Father’s purposes, as to when His kingdom should come. So the True and Faithful Witness taught them who did not want to be taught; that its not he who says, but he who does what the Father commands, who is the one in God’s will. The controversy from the tyrants place, is that of their power and control. But the power and control does not justify the man; but faith and obedience, regardless of our temporary “status” in this world.

Romans 13:1-2 “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.”

As long as Jesus’ hour had not come, no one could touch Him. But when His hour came, He surrendered His rights that had been wrongly taken away; in obedience of faith. He did not resist the authority of the Priests and Elders of Israel; and upon their judgment that He should be handed over to the Gentiles to be condemned WITHOUT A CAUSE; He submitted to the secular authority likewise, as accepting the judgment of the rulers of the Jews. He trusted His cause in the hands of His Father: plus, He knew all the Scriptures concerning Himself, and all their meaning; and this was the way that God had determined from the foundation of the world, how He was going to separate the good from the bad, and save His people from their sins, and restore what He took not away.

Even while Jesus was teaching and testifying; knowing what He would suffer at their hands in only a few days from then; He told all the people all that the Father wanted Him to tell. That was why He came into the world: the same ministry that had been done in so many parts, and all the various ways, in the past through the prophets; the Son of God in the flesh completely made full. And now has He through the Spirit, laid hands on us and thrown His mantle over us, to continue the same ministry till He returns. We are only here for that reason; to sanctify ourselves and prepare for His appearing, to announce the glad tidings of the kingdom, and teach every one every where to keep and to do all that Jesus has commanded. 

Who has the authority in this world for now, and who is the greatest, are the things the heathen seek after; because they do not know the Lord, and have no understanding why they are living at all. God has set up the world’s systems for their good, for the time that they have now. This is not our time; and we do not seek to take over countries or the whole world for Jesus. Right now it belongs to them; and we are strangers and foreigners in their country. 

When God says its time; and He who has the power to divide the times, says that time shall be no more for this present evil world; then he will send the Lord Jesus Christ, the King of kings and LORD of lords, to take possession, and enact the transition to the everlasting kingdom of God. Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father in glory, waiting for Him who alone has the authority to say when; and so do we also wait, and attend to the things he has given for us to do till His return.

With all the bruhaha about the unidentified identified white powder at 1600…

….about25 years ago, while working at ‘the Charm School in Joliet’….I had the opportunity to view the inside of some inmates nasal cavity while in sick call….it was, on both sides, a very bright, bright red. The fellow had been there for a bit, and it also takes time to get from county, conviction to sentence and transfer to the IL big house….and I remember thinking that it was a sign of recent cocaine use….(the type of redness seemed recent or ‘fresh’)….usually a cold makes the same membranes, pale…so….hmmmm? Now just how did that happen?

In the real world, the employer would have been drug testing everyone at 1600.

…anything is possible I guess…kind of sad…more for those in the real world as opposed to the privileged class with access to better rehab.

For the record, my recreational drug of choice is Folgers Gourmet Supreme.

June had the highest number of sunspots recorded since Sept. of 2002. The sunspot count is the longest continued database in science with sunspot counts being made on a systematic basis since 1750. However, as with so much in science, as technology and technique advance and more institutions began observing, we see more than we did in the past so counts from long ago are not going to be directly comparable to those in more recent times.

We are about 5 years into solar cycle 25 and it has already surpassed the maximum of solar cycle 24.

The effect of solar activity on weather and climate is complex with much yet to be learned/discovered. But it is accepted that sunspot activity effects the path of the jet streams.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.
