The bodycam video is intense and will make you hold your breath. It shows the Allen PD police officer talking to kids about wearing seatbelts just as the mall shooter begins his rampage in the distance.
Without hesitation the cop assesses the scene, grabs his rifle and charges on foot toward the suspect. The officer tracks and engages the shooter, shots are exchanged, and the suspect is neutralized. The intensity of the video is quite dramatic, as you can hear and sense the situation as it unfolds. WATCH:
TEXAS – […] “This video shows how quickly a routine interaction with the public turned into a life-and-death situation,” Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey said in a statement. “The officer recognized the danger, ran toward the gunfire and neutralized the threat — and for his actions, the Allen community is forever grateful.”
The footage, released after a grand jury Tuesday cleared the officer of any wrongdoing, showed he was by his car in the mall parking lot chatting with children and a woman when gunshots suddenly rang out.
“Make sure you wear your seatbelts when mommy’s driving … you be good,” the officer said moments before gunshots could be heard.
He spotted customers fleeing before grabbing his rifle and sprinting toward the sound of shots. (read more)
A real HERO!
WOW!
Kudos to other cop in calming our hero down at the end. You can tell he just wanted an excuse to take the son of a bitch out. Great shot by that officer
Criminal should have stopped firing his weapon and stopped moving after the police announced presence. Instead, the criminal continued to injure victims with intent to kill.
Wow.. God Bless our Peace Officers
God Bless Him!
What a man. What a mighty fine man.
Which makes him totally unexceptionable to join the FBI.
Oh, the sights I’ve seen at the range…you don’t want to know.
I think you mean unsuitable…
Times ten
I saw this and it appears that it was good gun against a bad gun.
Or long gun wins on the run. Like a good old western.
not to quibble, but there were men behind each of those guns
“guns” doing the shooting is kind of a leftist paradigm
Good guy with a gun.
We need many millions more such.
Oldie (36 months) but goldie!
Dang…
I bet they are there, Maquis. Biding their time…
Good man against bad man
A law abiding citizen versus a criminal.
I sure hope the “suspect” wasn’t black, or LGBTQ LMNOP XYZ all over pie squared, or the office will be prosecuted.
Apparently one of them “white hispanics”.
From the article:
The footage, released after a grand jury Tuesday cleared the officer of any wrongdoing,
Awesome!
Amen
This is what it is all about! Thank Gid for courageous Police that are there to really protect the public! This was so inspiring!
Show this to the ACAB crowd. God bless that man
Only thing I can say is I wished he had driven around to that side. He must have run several hundred yards. That’s a big place and I imagine it was hard to pinpoint where shooter was. Great job, no arrest pics or trial reports. I feel for the innocents that lost their lives.
He probably didn’t know the distance to the shots being fired but, you’re right, taking the fully equipped police SUV would have saved time and possibly lives!
Gee, Joe, I hope the officer doesn’t see your comment. There’s no way for us to sit at our keyboards and know how the man could have done something differently and “saved time and possibly lives!”
If he does read here . . .
Well done, officer! Be assured you handled the situation correctly.
Within earshot of a gun the last thing you would want to do is be a target in the driver seat. He acted properly by engaging on foot. When you watch you can see how tactical he was in seeking, identifying and then firing upon the shooter. He took on serious personal risk if a second shooter was involved.
As the officer got closer to the shooting he was also smartly positioning himself outside the row of large support columns under the facade, using them as potential shields in case the shooter spotted him approaching and opened fire. Good tactical training.
He took extreme personal risk by continuing to pursue with no backup. Less then 5 minutes and without deterrence the criminal would have killed more. A True American.
Considering how many cars were in the aisles and pulling out, he could have been boxed in.
Retired Magistrate here: As a former police officer, you have no idea what it is like when the adrenaline kicks in and you are just trying to save lives. It is easy to make “woulda-shoulda” comments after the incident.
This police officer did a great job.
Marcia, you were a police officer before a Judge? Very cool. Thank you for your service.
God bless you too.
Retired Magistrate here: Yes, I was the first woman hired as a police officer in the town I served. After several years I resigned so I could go to college, worked my way through, then was a fraud investigator, then worked my way through law school, then headed up a State Insurance Fraud Department, then a Health Insurance Fraud Department, then my own law firm (I was the attorney, secretary, etc.) and finally a Magistrate.
It has been a very interesting life by far; all the glory goes to GOD.
Marcia, Do I sense a book waiting to come out of you?!😁
Amazing career, Marcia! Please know that I always appreciate your astute comments and posts.
I always stop to smell the flowers (read) when RM posts.
Proud to have you on here and get your wisdom! All the best, Marcia!
Absolutely!!! Amazing!!!
Congratulations!!! And Thank you!!!
Marcia -I agree!
That adrenaline kicks in big time.
After he finished doing all the massive paperwork required after the incident, and then the “adrenaline crash” …he probably slept for 12 hours straight.
Proud of this Officer!
You absolutely get into a zone and a piercing focus… nothing else matters at the moment.
Thank you God for adrenaline.
Absolutely. I get a little bothered by some of the things arm chair Hero’s tend to say. But I do have the ability to step back and think about how I used to think prior to being in one of those situations.
I survived a car jacking by a gang of Haitian immigrants In the outskirts of Miami when I was 22. To this day I can still see the scratch mark on the one attackers tiny ring he had on his had when he dove through the car windows. Everything went into slow motion as soon as the attack happened. Your body and mind goes in to a transient state that unless you’ve been through it, you’ll never be able to grasp. From that moment on it was all about survival. But the things I rememebr from the attack are very strange. One thing I do believe was God was 100% on our side. As one of the attackers ran up to the side of the car I was on to smash a 40 Oz bottle in my face, by the grace of God alone, he somehow hit the door frame just below the window and strangely all glass and most liquid exploded above and around the care. Absolutely miraculous.
But to your point, when the adrenaline is pumping you aren’t thinking like someone that’s watching an episode of 24. Life gets so real you can’t explain it.
This cop did a phenomenal job and deserves a medal not grand jury. Disgusting it had to get to that point.
Wow, I’m glad for your protection! Were the car jackers ever arrested?
They were not. We reported them to police but I was never contacted by them after the fact. So I’m guessing they went on to do more crime. That part of Miami is not good. And all we did was make a wrong turn and nearly paid with our lives.
Everything went into slow motion as soon as the attack happened. Your body and mind goes in to a transient state that unless you’ve been through it, you’ll never be able to grasp.
Amen. Wish I had a mental switch and could turn that on at will.
Only time I get it is when the feces hit the rotating device.
“You have no idea what it is like when the adrenaline kicks in and you are just trying to save lives.”….this is pisses me off too Magistrate. Especially when the lefties sound off about it. You can’t judge anyone, no pun intended, unless you have been in a similar situation. I have seen cops be shitheads when they had the upper hand. They even did this to poor little old me once. Hard to believe I know lol 😉
Seriously this guy was a saint.
Retired Cop here chirping in…truly incredible both mental and physical fitness this officer displayed.
I have been involved in a police officer shooting..( suicide by cop) the deceased had stabbed a fellow officer.
I did very little and was close to shooting a plain clothes officer that had had his back to me.
There were no innocents in danger, or traffic and none of us had to run, yet my adrenaline pumped for hours, and then internal affairs wanted statements.😖
This officer is IMO a extremely rare individual. Truly magnificent!
Cheers!
On foot was best, needs to be doing more cardio though. That run even with adrenaline kicking should not have had him that winded.
Retired Army here.
That is why it is so important to do “stress-shoot” live fire ranges. Do a bunch of PT including a good long run in full battle rattle, then go immediately into a walking live shoot multi-engagement range. It has to be run as lanes with VERY tight range safety controls and multiple well qualified range staff. But the training experience is worth it. Real life or death shootouts don’t seem to happen when you are well rested and comfortable and know the target sequencing beforehand.
Cop obviously had lots of gear and got gassed quickly.
One thing people don’t get is that if you dont warm up, you “blow up” quickly. Meaning that you get winded and lose your endurance capacity.
Go sprint 100 yards from a cold start, no warm up, and tell me how you feel.
Done it. In my prime. Just think he could be in better shape.
He ran a tremendous distance in full gear carrying a rifle.
Shouting commands all the way, as well as remaining calm and his radio procedure was excellent.
Geesh!
Also what was the temperature on such a sunny day during a heat wave?
Soros brought a war to our streets, cops need regular boot camp cardio training to survive out there now.
I suspect it may have been much more difficult to localize the gunfire and find the target in that case, as well as navigate with all the traffic.
He made the right call to pursuit on foot. Did you see the cars backed up in the parking lot? He needed to follow the criminal closely, and his police car would have been blocked by scared citizens.
Wow. That was intense. God bless that officer.
Steady ran toward every shot he heard.
It pains me to think whose life was ending with every shot he heard. And but for the grace of God, one of those lives could easily have been that hero cop.
A true patriot – march to the sound of the guns
This was TEXAS and no one ELSE in the entire ginormous shopping center had a firearm except the shooter and one brave police officer!?!?!
You need to take some concealed carry classes. The ONLY time you fire as a citizen is when you are in direct threat of your life. the law is no longer on your side… even in Texas.
Agree though that everyone should carry.
Not entirely true. Recent concealed carry class taker. “I feared for A life.” Doesn’t have to be yours.
Even at war, it’s damn tough to decide to take a human life! You realize that once you take it, there is no giving it back! That’s where PTSD comes into play! There is why many soldiers will rarely talk about their service! Coming home and being greeted as a baby killer never works out! When you look death square in the face and you come out a winner, your life is altered forever!
Glad you made it back, Pa Hermit, and thank you for your service.
Bullshit. Crystal clear that you don’t know what you’re talking about.
I’m an FFL dealer/NFA manufacturer for 30 years. Serviced subguns and pistols for half the state PD’s here. Dealt with BATF here and at their regional HQ. Dealt with firearms law for those 30 years. Deadly force to save lives other than your own is lawful in all 50 states, even “shall retreat” states.
The news is full of such deadly force use by armed individuals to stop mass shootings, when the armed individual was in no danger from the shooter.
Think how stupid what you said is: one may only fire if THEIR life’s in danger? You’re not gonna save your children or wife from armed intruders or armed mall gunmen, but gonna fire only if YOUR life’s in danger?
Better talk to some top defense lawyers about use of deadly force. Knowledge is power. Get some knowledge before you go off half cocked again..
Wyoming Treeper has offered some outstanding analysis over the past few months, particularly when the SVBank debacle hit.
Perhaps he could have worded his comment better, and perhaps he would offer a clarification if you merely pointed out the facts rather than take a .50cal to him.
Thanks for the shout out. I am speaking out of turn for Texas and simply going off the information recently shared via one of the CCL associations regarding this very scenario.
In the end it is truly a personal decision on how to engage but their advice based upon recent legal precedents was unless you have no other avenue for escape and unless you have 100% probability of success you should not engage.
A conceal 9mm is no match against a rifle. Your probability is low on success.
Now if everyone is carrying, as I stated, different story.
One of the videos
Stay in Wyoming son, Texas is a stand your ground state. Talking out of turn
Tell that to George Zimmerman
George Zimmerman is innnocent. He acted in self defense.
I disagree. There is the “extended self” law you’re forgetting. That can apply to any innocent people around. The important thing about being a citizen that’s going to draw on another citizen is, you better be damn sure they are the guilty party. That’s it. And I would venture to guess if you see an adult shoot a child with a gun of any size make or model, you absolutely KNOW that person is bad, and you need to end them, whether fatally or situationally. Put them down.
The law absolutely allows for that. But to your point, you can definitely find yourself in a legal battle today that would NEVER have arisen 20 years ago. But at the end of the day, ALWAYS do what’s right in God’s eyes, not man.
Amen.
Hello.. Texans don’t shop there.. we can’t afford it
I agree the cop deserved citizen backup.
HERO!
May the Creator bless and protect our law enforcement officers that are still loyal to the Republic and rule of law.
Here’s looking at you Mr Wray and other FBI scoundrels undermining the will of The People.
He needed one of those Paul Blart Segways
I am literally in tears watching this video…when everyone else is running away, this HERO runs straight into the fight! As the mother of a police officer I KNOW the physical and mental toll this incident took on him but he went TOWARD the sound of danger, because that is who he is and what he has trained to do!
The cowards in Uvalde should be forced to watch this video every day for the rest of their lives…
May the LORD bless and protect this man and his family, both Blue and blood, now and always!
Same here, Aggie.
Took awhile to be able to see clear enough to read or type.
Unbelievable!!!!!!!
-Give that MAN a raise and some vacation time.
Give that man a raise and more vacation time.
I know that toll as well.
Hubby is retired police officer, over 30 yrs service.
The Uvalde police officers are “all hat and no cattle”
Not to take anything from this officer, but no one can outrun a bullet.
Point being, all of those people are doing just what the shooter WANTS them to do; run away from him.
Because he knows his gun is going to need to be reloaded, and ehen it does he doesn’t want anyone within 30′-40′ of him, because that is when he is vulnerable.
Good tactical observation Dutch.
Well….what in the world do you expect them to do? Run towards the shooter unarmed?
In a perfect situation the police officer would have been in better shape, not out of breath and not required multiple shots.
Bottom line he did the job!
Anyone who says they wouldn’t run in the opposite direction when faced with a shooter and unarmed is in a different world than mine. Period dot.
Officer pursued alone, with no eyes on target. Huge risk to officer. Criminal could have easily hid and killed the officer and then continuing killing innocent victims. Officer did a remarkable job.
Running towards gunfire. He doesn’t know where the shooter is, could be behind cover sniping or there could be others. Training or not when the time comes who steps up. We’ve seen others who hid, made no effort, Uvalde, Stoneman Douglas school.
He was pretty aware. New instantly to note the folks running away, which confirmed general direction along with sound. It’s pretty obvious why so many officers are in such good shape. Keeping your head and training clear with live fire while running a couple football fields in crappy shoes in a black uniform in the TX heat… that alone will mentally stress most folks.
Display of excellence and courage. Awesome.
And all the while herding civilians out of danger and keeping dispatch updated.
“To Serve and Protect” in its greatest form.
“The footage, released after a grand jury Tuesday cleared the officer of any wrongdoing.”
How long did the brave officer have to wait to be cleared by a “grand jury” that only hears one side of an issue and could have had anti police jurors even in Texas.” I was wondering how many of the shooters loud gunshots were contacting an innocent person as the officer rushed to stop him.
The full article states:
“The dead victims were Kyu Song Cho, 37; Cindy Cho, 35; James Cho, 3; Aishwarya Thatikonda, 27; Daniela Mendoza, 11; Sofia Mendoza, 8; Christian LaCour, 20; Elio Cumana-Rivas, 32.” (Despicable madness and cruelty)
“The killer, 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia, was forced out of the military 15 years ago because of mental health concerns…”
Having actually spent time on a grand jury I can tell you they do not hear just one side in a case like this.. They will hear from several people that were on the scene and others that were not
Thanks for the info. I believe only the USA has “Grand Juries” and I think if a prosecutor is corrupted or dishonest then prosecutorial “injustice” is likely similar to the corrupt DC Grand Juries that will indict a ham sandwich as Dershowitz said. What Texas County are you referring to. It seems like the prosecutor in your case provided a fair process but others in the USA might not.
“Proceedings are secret and take place behind closed doors. Prosecutors present evidence by reciting facts or providing witness testimony or exhibits. The prosecutor may choose to recommend a True Bill, a No Bill, or make no recommendation at all…In Texas, a grand jury is made up of 12 people who determine whether or not there is probable cause to believe that a felony offense occurred…According to Article 19.40 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, a quorum of nine jurors must be present to carry out the function of the grand jury..”
“The process is not an adversarial process. The defendant is not present, and the defense attorney does not have a right to be in the room. However, there are some cases in which an experienced defense attorney is able to make a presentation to the jury. If you or someone you know is under investigation or charged with a felony, it is critically important that you talk to a defense attorney who is not only familiar with the process, but also has experience making presentations…” The prosecutor has too much discretion in this system.
Independent inquiries that always present all the evidence and testimony from the prosecution and the defense is better IMO.
https://versustexas.com/blog/what-is-a-grand-jury/
My gut is the grand jury process leads to prosectorial abuse.
Cudos to the officer who followed his training, giving directions to bystanders, communicating on the net in real time for routine communication to cease in favor of ongoing response, advising control of his location and sitrep. By the book. Been there but didn’t have to use deadly force. Training reps save lives.
People assume that they will “rise to the occasion” if a dangerous situation arises, but the truth of the matter is that most people actually “fall to the lowest level of their training”…
This officer clearly took his training seriously and thus was well prepared when “that day” (which no one actually wants to come) did!
May the Uvalde cowards see this and burn with eternal shame.
Hell yeah! A real law man!
Dirt Drop these POS assets every time they surface. No negotiations, no delay and no mercy! EVER!
with extreme prejudice
It looks like he keeps doing something early on…That EOTech brightness should have been set up better…beforehand…for the brightness conditions…it looks like he keeps punching those reflex sight controls on the panel as he’s closing to engage. It just takes your eyes off of the potential target for milliseconds.
And, those are hard/relatively long shots he made with the 4 MOA Lake City ammo (M193) they probably are using at his agency.
Good takedown tho, commendable as hell, and it’s a damn good thing there were not more stupid pedestrians milling around as backstops in the breezeways.
later in the same video, it appears that the Titan submersible observation porthole blew out
dockside footage shows the end cap being lowered to the dock with a hoisting strap thru the porthole
wrong thread Nimrod!
Whoops!
So the porthole plastic failed, water rushed in, and essentially though their was an implosion, the vessel was effectively exploded outwards.
The entering pressure would eventually equalize internal and external pressure, so the failed port would reduce the likelihood of an external pressure induced implosion of the pressure vessel itself, so I can only surmise that it popped like a balloon when all that water went in through the port.
Thanks for the find, Nim!
This guy hasn’t been sitting around eating donuts. And he sure wasn’t going to wait around to see how the situation developed and/or seek higher guidance. Kudos.
He was pretty breathless for that short a “run” needs some cardio training. But a hero still!!
Breathing hard yes. But he does not lose situational awareness. It doesn’t look like his vision tunneled out. He was able to get off some aimed shots at 100yds or so. He kept it together enough to get the job done.
Exactly. Exactly. Lethal shots 100 yds. “Short run” “Needs cardio” SMH
Watch these on Youtube. Good shooting. You can hear him scream “watch your fire”. Many time cops get caught in the crossfire.
Civilians get caught also.
So, after the DA empaneled the grand jury, how many counts of reckless endangerment and 2nd degree homicide did they charge the cop with?
The victim’s family is suing the PD for how much? I mean, for crying out loud, he could have aimed to shoot the gun out of his hand or even try to make nice first, right?
Greater love hath no man than one who shoots a mass shooter to smithereens.
Shoot the gun out of his hand?
Make nice first?
🤔 Seriously?
The shooter was actively murdering innocent people!! One does not “Make Nice”.
In this situation one DEMANDS the shooter drop the weapon. If they fail to do so (IMMEDIATELY) one aims for the “Center of Available Mass” and fires.
P E R I O D
This is not Hollywood or Netflix. People are being murdered in cold blood. They are not returning on the next episode, nor showing up at the Oscar’s.
THEY ARE DEAD
You forgot to add the ” /s ” at the end of your satire.
We can tell “geokstr” is being satirical. Adding that “S” takes some edge off the humor. Don’t you agree?
Yes… but far too many’s sarc discriminator circuit is out of alignment.
I’ve been thrashed here for what I posted when to my mind was over the top sarc.
IMO better to add the /s and not have these exchanges.
More people would have been killed. He didn’t hide behind a concrete column and wait for the swat team.
God bless this HERO!
good shooting for being out of breath
My adrenaline was high, just from watching this! If I were there, I would have passed out. What a great police officer!
BLM= Blue Lives Matter!!!
Thats a hell of a shot in perfect circumstances, no less with adrenaline pumping, heart pounding, lungs burning, and a real and imminent threat present, unkown ancillary threats.
What a shame fate didn’t put the officer closer to the scene at the outset.
This officer deserves a Presdiential citation – if only we had an actual President to award him one.
To be certain, the body cam distorted the view and made things seem farther away than they actually were. He seemed within ~100 ft at first shot. Not knowing what kind of sights (iron, red dot, optical scope) his weapon had, it still appeared that he is an excellent shot while under stress and fatigue.
That was handled all wrong! Social workers should have been sent to talk the murdering POS down. /sarc!
Now I want to see the perp! I wanted to see his stinking carcass.
Glad the officer had a black rifle and knew how to use it! Excellent!
It is hard to understand how high the physical and mental stress level goes if you haven’t ever done anything like that. After running a good distance towards the sound of the shots that officer still was able to control his breathing to put accurate rounds down range. His heart rate was probably higher than 110 bpm. That kind of physical control does not come without training or experience. I would be surprised if that cop has not been there and done that before or possibly was SWAT or had some kind of advanced tactical training.
Good to hear from you rah!
Someone dropped a video here a week or two back of a social worker paying a visit to the ‘hood.
Gang of kids had him beat and pantsed in a heartbeat.
The FBI/CIA sure keep busy with their terrorist attacks.
MK Ultra is not a Conspiracy theory.
100%
This guy is a stud. Didn’t hesitate at all. And I mean that 2 fold…one second he’s being a fantastic community role model chatting with kids telling them to mind their mother and then the next second he switches gears and neutralizes the threat. I grew up in nearby Plano when Allen was a spec on the map and I hope this policeman gets some kind of commendation or medal for his actions. Unfortunately lives were lost but because of his heroics many were saved.
THAT is a HERO! Kudos to the officer!
Thank God for those among us that run to the fire.
Prayers for the officer & for the victims and their families. None of them will ever be the same.
My wife and I shop at that mall on a regular basis.
That officer had to run a very long way, as in nearly 1/4 to 1/2 mile, to get to the shooter. Quite a shot after that amount of exertion.
Even though it may be “procedure” … the fact a Grand Jury even heard this case is BS. Collin County, Tx really does have some very iffy County DA’s and other local peace officers have been subject to some very questionable inquiries by the County.
It angers me too that he was ever put to a GJ.
Persecutorial Discretion has gone too far.
Even though it may be “procedure” … the fact a Grand Jury even heard this case is BS.
ABSOLUTELY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blessings from an Israeli friend. Good Job! I also watched the officers in Tennessee a couple of months ago. You have something to be proud of. Heroes!
Yeah, those two dudes were badass too
Nice to hear from you! Hope all is well.
Thank You. I am well.
My wife is a retired Allen, Tx school teacher. This lines up 100% with all she told me about the drills and briefs she received from the Allen PD at school … this is not a 1 off act as the Allen PD takes this stuff and their duty to heart.
That cop covered a lot of ground on foot – WOW! Not once did he think to do anything but go forward and stop the shooter.
HERO – we should all be proud of him!!
I feel these Officers should have .308 caliber rifles with fragmentary rounds. I would not be surprised if this particular Officer has a brown wallet with “Bad Motherf&^%%$” stamped into it like Sam Jackson’s character “Jules Winfield” in “Pulp Fiction”..
God bless and reward this American HERO!!!
A courageous man who put his life on the life.
He makes this admin look like the pieces of garbage that they are.
Wow, that was intense. And runo’s.ning towards the gunfire.
God bless our Le
fat fingers.
We’ll never tell!
This cop didn’t wait around for the perp to stop shooting, as we have seen before, but instead charged the shooter and took him down…Bravo! He deserves the love and gratitude of everyone…
Don’t ask me why I carry a gun. It’s my first line of defense. I would not even think about shooting a person unless it was a life threatening situation. My government would love to disarm me to protect these killers. Ask me why?
taking guns from law abiding citizens just encourages criminals to commit more violent crime.
GOD BLESS THIS OFFICER!
Today, the grand jury returned a “no bill”.
“Police released body camera video from a responding officer on Wednesday after a grand jury ruled that the use of force was justified under Texas state law.”
Allen, Texas, police officer seen neutralizing mass shooter in dramatic bodycam video: ‘Got him down’ | Fox News
God bless that officer.
Glad it worked out but I do remember Micah Johnson, also in Texas and what a professional soldier can do against cops when on a mission. He took out five if memory serves.
If/when hostilities ramp up, expect to see more missions and news like this. War is never pleasant. Here, the perp is dead. That’s how threats are neutralized permanently. Uncomfortable truth.
