For more than half a century, certainly since the Kennedy assassination, anyone who notices patterns and missing pieces in public life, and attempts a possible explanation that suggests cover-ups or other nefarious dealing, is denounced as a “conspiracy theorist” and hence self-evidently wrong and probably crazy.
The trouble is that it is very difficult to make sense of public life today without some degree of speculation based on morsels of evidence. That’s because so much of the truth of things is hidden behind security walls.
Anyone who thinks the public has not been hoodwinked by some very powerful people is hopelessly naïve or not paying any attention. The sheer number of once-trusted institutions and individuals who have betrayed us is beyond belief. And this is true for a vast range of issues from war to economics to public health to academia and medicine generally.
In the case of COVID—by which I mean not the virus but the “whole-of-society” response—the rule-making power was transferred from public health to the intelligence community on March 13, 2020, with the emergency declaration. This is not a speculation. We have all the documents. Upon release, they were marked confidential.
It was a remarkable shift in the American system, away from representative democracy and toward rule by administrative bureaucracies. Those are the people who closed your churches and schools. They did it without a vote or polls. They somehow gained the power to do it while bypassing every institution of consent.
theory or not, the thing i observe about those who use the term as an epithet… really do not know much about the events with which they speak. The tell is when you ask them to expound upon it or if they know certain things about it, they take that as some sort of gotcha moment and get defensive.
I try to be cautious about buying into half-constructed theories and ideas, but i also try to know as much about a topic as possible before i am willing to accept ANY version of events.

IMHO, the last truly “public debate” we had on a major policy initiative was the debate on “school vouchers” 30+ years ago.
WE “won” the debate, and then were betrayed by the RINOS that went behind closed doors, and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, negotiating a “compromise” of “Charter schools”.
Soon thereafter, Presidential debates were taken away from “the League of Woman voters”, and given to “the Presidential commission on debates” and constructed to avoid any real debate.
Even with that, AS a political jumkie, I was frankly shocked to see, in 2022, both RINO and Dem candidates, largely REFUSING to debate MAGA Candidates.
The idea a candidate would be running for office and refuse to stand before voters and defend their policie positions and record, just seems unthinkable, and in previoys times would have been seen as an election concession; it just wouldn’t have been done.
All a part of this “extreme leftist” turn; they do NOT want a debate, because they KNOW they can not win a debate on the merits.

These days most spam calls have a person’s name and number but those aren’t the actual person that is calling, their ID is spoofed by spammers. Can’t count the number of times caller ID now says it’s a call from the name of a town or city in another State – and those are always spam calls.

I saw what I think was a Bald Eagle in a tree on our land the other day. Which is very strange, because they are fishing birds and we live far from any body of water. Maybe it was an omen …

We see eagles over trees next to a river just behind our house on a regular basis. We’re pretty sure they are a mating pair of bald eagles. Unfortunately, our redwing blackbirds dogfight with and harass them all the time. It’s strange, but the eagles don’t seem to get the better of these exchanges.
I’m told that the raptors can’t get the othe birds as long as they stay above them.
That fits with my observation. The blackbirds stay above and slightly behind and drop down periodically to inflict damage. They’re a menace for everyone. A few years back, one of them raked my scalp while I was walking by their nest and drew blood.

There was a bald eagle in our field the other day and it was eating a dead racoon. So they must not eat fish exclusively.
I aw a young blue heron that appeared to be hunting rodents in a field. I was so surprised I looked it up, and found out that yes, they will do that at times.
I have seen bald eagles kill ducks several times. I have also seen ospreys take muskrats. I live on a river bank.
That is correct! I just started watching an Eagle nest in Florida. They have live cams up at the nest. So every year when mating season starts, you can watch. The last baby eaglet just left the nest for good the other week. It is an amazing thing to watch. Although, I must warn that it is possible to see some very sad situations happen. Sometimes an Eaglet doesn’t make it. Sometimes a parent will disappear leaving only one Eagle to care for the eaglets and keep intruders away. Owls will attack them at night as well. I saw turtles, rabbits, snakes, birds among other things brought into the nest to feed the eaglets.

Most educated people know that a British historian named Edward Gibbon published The Decline and Fall of The Roman Empire in the 1700’s.
Two-thirds of his analysis is actually Byzantine History, as it details the c. 1,000 years of the eastern half of what had been the Roman Empire. The western half was gone by the late 400’s, conquered by assorted Germanic tribes.
In his analysis, Gibbon blames both the barbarians and the deleterious aspects of Christianity for Rome’s, and 1000 years later, Constantinople’s, disintegration. He thought Christian in-fighting and its theology of peace allowed the barbarians to dominate.
Most historians today reject Gibbon’s analysis as too narrow. The greater importance of Gibbon is that his analysis became the basis for studying the rise and fall of all states.
Another historian, hardly known at all today, published a more subtle history of Rome’s collapse in the 1880’s: his name was Thomas Hodgkin.
Hodgkin’s book (in 8 volumes) was called Italy and Her Invaders and is perhaps more valuable to us today than Gibbon
In Volume II, Hodgkin looks at The Huns and especially the effect of Attila, and wonders whether modern states could weather a similar storm.
He was a supporter of Democracy in both England and America, but saw a danger in the burgeoning prosperity in both sides of the Atlantic at the end of the 19th century.
Such great success could mark the beginning of a new cycle of decline and fall. He worried that despots both British and American could rise up and manipulate their nations for their own aggrandizement and thereby lead their nations into corruption and ruin.
Rome’s incompetent and corrupt leaders -amid the adulation of paid politicians – had allowed the empire to fall prey to barbarians like Attila and many others. Defeats were spun into victories to keep the urban populations calm, until the ruination became too obvious to deny, by which time it was too late to stop total ruin.
Democracies, Hodgkin feared, were not immune to the possibility of a similar cycle of decline and fall.
Rome and later the Byzantine successors had several opportunities for re-invigoration…but they were all lost.
We know that President Trump is our opportunity to reverse an obvious decline: will America fail in supporting this great opportunity?

Your concern is mine also: if you observe early Medieval History, you will see that local “government,” such as it was, would establish itself and prevent any kind of central authority from domination.
It would take nearly a thousand years for central governments (i.e. kings/queens and later Parliaments or Congresses) to rise again.
Post-Civil-War America is a good example, but it was thwarted from being completed, and we still suffer from the rebirth of institutional racism (i.e. Jim Crow laws and its attendant culture) and from the growth and continual fertilization of the central government, which began sprouting in the later 1800’s.
My point has been: given the speed of modern communications and everything else in Modern Life, the cycles of History will necessarily accelerate.
It will not take centuries for a decline and fall to happen, nor will the next rise of whatever kind of future need centuries to establish itself.

Justinian was the last emperor whose native language was Latin, or what passed for Latin in that century. He tried to reconquer the West, and acquired parts of it due to the talent of his general Belisarius.
Procopius did not like the Empress Theodora, and his “secret history” contains all kinds of salacious and turpitudinous tales about her and others. As a result, it is not necessarily to be trusted.
On the other hand, any skepticism was warranted. The resources needed for the reconquest of Italy and North Africa etc. should have been saved for the defense and strengthening of the eastern half, as barbarians and the Sasanians/Persians were still a constant threat. After Justinian died, the Byzantines were forced to relinquish almost everything they had conquered in the West.
Later, the Emperor Heraclius will exhaust these resources in his wars against the Sasanians/Persians, and both sides will then be easy prey for Islamic Arabs bursting out of Arabia in the 630’s.
The Byzantines were divided in various ways at that time, often because of Christian heresies arising and melding with a kind of nationalism (e.g. Coptic Christianity held for Monophysitism (q.v.) in Egypt ) against the orthodoxy of Constantinople.
Because early Islam was often misunderstood as another version of Christianity, areas unhappy with the Byzantines in Constantinople were not necessarily unwilling to accept the Arabs at that time: this ws parallel with the earlier, partial acceptance of barbarian chieftains in the West in late 300’s and into the 400’s.
At least barbarians did not tax you out of existence!
