The Congress can keep raising the debt limit, and the Fed can keep “printing more $, but the REAL “issuers of credit” are the countries (Governments) that have continued to buy Treasuries, because of the underlieing collective recognition of the Treasuries as the benchmark; i.e. they have always been considered the “safest” place to park $.
Once that underlieing shared view changes, and the Govts of the World shift the parking of their reserves somewhere else, the $ (value of treasuries) collapses in a heap.
The only thing thats put any restraint on such a move by these “creditors” i.e. holders of treasuries, is that they can’t all instantly shift their assets, and so they would “lose” if there was a run on the dollar.
Much like the FDIC insurance for banks, or the rediculous TSA measures for boarding a plane, the IDEA that treasuries are “safe” is just an illusion; and only “works” so long as everyone believes in it.
Nothing that TSA does, removing shoes, leaving fingernail clippers behind, body searches, etc. would prevent another 9/11 by detirmined individuals, the FDIC can’t prevent runs on banks, if ALL banks were involved, and the U.S. Treasuries are no more “the safest” place to park money; all are just ILLUSIONS.

Good point. They did a lot of cloud seeding in hurricanes when I was a kid with silver iodide, trying to dissipate a portion of the eye wall. I don’t think they were ever able to drop enough the way they were doing it, a better approach might have been dumping tankers the way they fight forest fires. So eventually they gave up on that project. But a lot of the techniques that they figured out might now be used in other more nefarious applications

Whenever I’ve acquired a new farm, because of my proximity to the ocean, it’s always recommended, and I’ve always tested the wells for saltwater intrusion. And you get the results back, whatever parts per million of salt you have in that water. Just don’t ask anybody from those testing companies the pertinent question. What does that mean? I’ve never gotten a straight answer from anyone, at the testing companies, at the University of florida, my local AG guys, nobody in the industry, nobody in government can tell me how many parts per million start to damage the things that I grow. All they can tell me is the parts per million.

No one in those companies or the government agencies that use that information can tell you when the salt becomes a problem.
I will make a good guess that if you ask any real farmer in the area they can tell you what you want to know.
They will tell exactly when the salt begins to effect each and every crop you are going to try and grow on your land.

There was an article in the “Wall Street Journal” in the print edition that my Mom pointed out to me (I think it was Thursday) about Maersk getting out of the mining for battery metals in the sea floor – but companies from the PRC have been doing it and are continuing with it – extracting copper and nickel from rocks in the sea bed –
this is for those batteries for electric cars because goodness, we don’t want to cause global warming by using petroleum resources.

Let’s say you wanted to mine gold off the sea floor. It’s not going to be down there in nuggets. It’s going to be in some sort of compound in some sort of microscopic percentage just the way it’s found in rocks on the surface. So can you justify the cost of trying to retrieve this stuff off the seabed and transporting it to a place where you can refine it? The answer is almost always no. So that’s why we don’t do it. You remember when they said all the mineral wealth that Afghanistan had? I believe it’s there, just like they said. The problem is how do you get the energy in there to extract it, and how do you remove it in a profitable manner. Absolutely impossible

Maybe the time immemorial way of teaching children how to behave would help you and your son. You can tell him he is a boy and that the costume is unacceptable to wear all the time and even more so to church. It also could help to explain to him what the real choices in life are and that to be a spider is not one of them. The same goes, needless to say, for the “turtle”.
Do not be deceived by the current culture. You are in control and you will not harm your children by teaching them what is real and what is not.

From a quarter to half of Earth’s vegetated lands has shown significant greening over the last 35 years largely due to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Climate Change on April 25.
An international team of 32 authors from 24 institutions in eight countries led the effort, which involved using satellite data from NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer instruments to help determine the leaf area index, or amount of leaf cover, over the planet’s vegetated regions.
The greening represents an increase in leaves on plants and trees equivalent in area to two times the continental United States.
But here it comes:
While rising carbon dioxide concentrations in the air can be beneficial for plants, it is also the chief culprit of climate change.
Did they forget about photo-synthesis. I’m an old toot now but. Seem to remember that plants at different times of the day, change carbon dioxide to oxygen and then the reverse.
Agreed, and yet the greenies keep trying to call CO2 a ” greenhouse poison gas”.

And rather than trying to radically and suddenly end fossil fuel use, something he points out will inevitably be catastrophic, count on a market driven (monetary savings driven) increases in the efficiency of their use as well as a natural increases in their price with time making alternative energy more economically practical WITHOUT subsidies.

Papers in leading psychology, economic and science journals that fail to replicate and therefore are less likely to be true are often the most cited papers in academic research, according to a new study by the University of California San Diego’s Rady School of Management.
In psychology, only 39 percent of the 100 experiments successfully replicated. In economics, 61 percent of the 18 studies replicated as did 62 percent of the 21 studies published in Nature/Science.

The more I thought about it, the more something else occurred to me. While it sounds almost sacrilegious for a political party to essentially rig the nomination, that’s exactly what they should be doing. Finally, someone said it!
Political parties are private clubs. As such, the party decides (or at least, it used to). Whether this vetting was done in a smoke-filled back room, or some less carcinogenic location, we were better off when strong political parties (elites and bosses) served this vital gatekeeping function.
Whereas the elites in the Republican Party simply rolled over for Trump and the mob to seize control of the party apparatus, modern Democrats are, ironically, less democratic than Republicans. This is a feature, not a bug.
Meanwhile, the left’s populist insurgents have generally become team players. Most recently, AOC announced she would not challenge New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in a primary. If only the Republican establishment had been this tough and this canny.

My wife used to be a flight attendant back in the day.
A good friend of hers was a gay male flight attendant she would work together with on flights over the years. He died of aids several years back, but before he did, he started listening to a famous preacher on the radio and began living a celibate lifestyle.
This morning she thought of her friend. She couldn’t remember the preacher’s name that he listened to. She asked me if I remembered. I thought a few minutes and asked if it was Adrian Rogers. She said yes, that’s him.
Then I googled his name, and this video showed up:
I don’t know the date this message was delivered, but it had to be sometime before 2005 when Adrian Rogers died.
After you watch/listen, I think the bible believers here will agree of its timelessness.

Yesterday’s attack on the shopping mall plays into my considerations….The shopping mall was in Allen Texas, The shooter was Hispanic. Allen Texas is 13 miles away from Garland Texas which houses a huge population of Islamics. The Allen Discount Mall would have seen Garland Islamic shoppers on a regular basis.
Also, I saw one photo of the driver being arrested today in Brownsville, and my immediate impression was that the man was of Middle-Eastern descent.
Could be a coincidence, but I’ll place my bet…..

There’s a photo online that shows the shooter had a cross tattoo on the back of his hand; pretty sure we won’t find too many Muslims with tattoos, much less ones of a Christian significance; gang members, on the other hand, yes.
The shooter was hispanic as well but the WaPo still said unknown sources said he, the shooter, had white suprematist ties. Of course.

The gunman who killed eight people and injured seven others before being shot dead by police at a Texas outlet mall has been identified as Mauricio Garcia, 33, several news outlets reported Sunday.
A Dallas home linked to Garcia’s parents was searched by police Saturday night following the massacre outside the Allen Premium Outlets, and officials also probed a motel where the suspected shooter had booked an extended stay, law enforcement sources told local outlet WFAA-TV.
Garcia did not have a serious criminal history and was working as a security guard, though its unclear where, CBS News reported.
Officials are also investigating any possible ties between the suspect and radical beliefs after he was found wearing a patch on his chest that suggested white supremacist or neo-Nazi leanings, according to the Washington Post.
The FBI branch in Dallas, which is helping lead the case with the Texas Department of Public Safety, confirmed officials were searching two locations related to the suspect, but did not provide.
