A couple of years ago I had a conversation with a friend who believed that gen-X and gen-Z would never embrace classical music the way ‘boomers did. His conclusion was that classical music—and, indeed, popular music itself—was doomed. I told him he was quite wrong, that I was well acquainted with young, highly talented musicians (guitar players) who not only loved classical music but who were willing to practice long hours—Cristina probably worked 6-8 hrs per day to develop her chops—to learn to play really well. Just look at the precision of her right hand in those complex passages . . . Getting to where she is ain’t easy. Not at all.
It’s called passion, Garrison. And I think he’s wrong, too. I can’t imagine my world at least without classical music. Something I was steeped in through my mother’s listening to it as I was growing up…though at the time I sort of tuned it out, preferring the pop musicians of the day in the 60s and 70s. But in my midteens and suddenly I became captivated. No rhyme or reason for it, but it developed into a lifelong passion and I am grateful for it.
Everyone’s tastes are different of course. But the enduring beauty of centuries old music hasn’t died out. My soul thrives on it. It’s just so reassuring to see this young lady keeping it alive. Nope, I not only believe your friend was wrong; I believe he was catastrophically wrong. Thank goodness.💕

Good morning all. I hope you all have a blessed Sunday.
The old truck’s brakes are done. The kids are heading home today but leaving the truck. They will be back later this week to get it. The brake lights don’t work but the running lights and turn signals do. Fuses good, so I am betting it is the brake light switch and that damned thing is way up under the dash. I’m going to get that fixed and though they don’t know it, I will also get and exhaust leak fixed for them.
4 years ago I bought my Daughter and her partner a walk behind mower. They used it less than two years and did not take it to Florida with them because they have a lawn service. It has sat in my shed since then, untouched and unused.
I told Jason he could have it for his landscaping/mowing business. We put gas and oil in it. It started first pull! So he will be taking that with him. I’m glad to have it out of my shed. I need the floor space.
If you don’t use it, you lose it!
The long days, lots of walking, lots of standing, and just general physical activity on my feet has resulted in my sciatica backing off some. I can now do a lot more without having to sit down to relieve the burning.
I will continue to stay active and I bet it will continue to get better.

I do happen to have a bit of knowledge in the area of back problems. Had more done in two surgeries that Tiger Woods did in five. That was a few years ago. I’ve been dealing with back issues for 26 years now…
What I’ll say is what you know, but for those who don’t:
1. Walk. A LOT.
2. Stretch. A LOT.
3. Core strength MATTERS.
This one surprised me in its value. You can think you know, but until you get desperate enough to actually do the work, you can’t fully know.
There are safe core exercises, and they help.
After awhile I figured out that as I recovered from the surgeries, and I became more able to push myself, the faster I walked the more it FORCED me to tighten my core as I did it.
The more core exercises I did, it seemed to help at a faster rate.
Do stretches and exercise daily. Take a few days off and you pay for it.
This one came as a surprise:
Sugar and refined carbohydrates cause inflation. Mom told me about that, and she’s rarely wrong. I asked my surgeon, who is only days younger than me, about that. He EMPHATICALLY agreed with her and said that as we age (I ain’t old enough to be old yet!) a huge battle is the control of inflammation. My surgeon, who was a collegiate swimmer and looks like he could still compete, said that he is very careful about what he eats in an effort to control inflammation.
I hope your back lets up. I hope you never hurt again.
Back pain is it’s own special brand of hurt.
Nobody can possibly know what it’s like til they are here, and once “here”, you never really get to leave.
But things can be done to help it.
1. Hurt and hate it, but keep moving.
2. If you keep moving, you can keep moving.
I ain’t wrong.
Truly…..if you don’t use it you lose it.
Amen, brother. I reckon for many like myself diet has a whole bunch to do with inflammation and back pain. Having been in a drought situation for several months the recent intense storms passing through the area gave me a brisk reminder of how changes in the pressure affect the bulging disc in my thoracic region.
I have been relatively pain free for the past few weeks which for me is an eternity. I was getting fired up about several possible job opportunities on the horizon with my changes in diet and exercise starting pay off. The recent storms reminded me of limitations I was hoping for the first time in 30 years had become more manageable.
I no longer have the safety blanket of prescribed opioids, medical cannabis or NSAIDs. I am praying I will be shown a way to be productive and remain self reliant with out detrimental substances to help me block out the occasional debilitating pain.
My heart hurts for you, Greg.
My son had major back surgery ten years ago and still left with pain.
Surgery fixed disc problem, but left him with nerve pain in an area.
He’s been to several specialists/physical therapists. No one has been able to help.
He continues to live his life with Advils. But it breaks my heart and I pray daily for his healing.

Woke up one morning and could not walk!
Stunned and helpless; as there was nothing to hold onto and no one to call on for help, it took over 30 minutes ( I swear) to get 10’ across the room to the bathroom.
The commode seat felt like fire and ice and being stabbed at the same time!
I could not sit or lie down without excruciating… tortuous pain when I stood up for 5 days and nights.
I literally never sat or laid down.
-Ever try to sleep standing?🙀
After a week of Motrin
and then two rounds (10 days each time ; with 2 weeks in between)
of prednisone …
In disbelief , I got a lumbar pillow.
I walked (hobbled) around with a lumbar pillow strapped on so I could readily sit or lay down.
It must be placed at the small of the back , with buttocks pressed to the back of the seat, back and neck straight and tall.
It took a while to get used to it, but, man oh man it helped a lot!
Still have some neuropathy in the foot, although, it doesn’t feel like rocks are in my shoes – even when barefooted, or like there’s a metal rod under foot.
Stretching back leg muscle
helps also.
Since getting down on the floor was almost impossible, the lower stairs helped.
Keep feet flat on floor
Keep lower back straight
Bend down and place both hands fly on the 2nd or 3rd bottom stair (depending on your height); like doing a push-up,
Inhale
Then during exhale
arch small of back (belly forward) .
I am quite familiar with the feeling of not being able to stand, sit, lay down, hang up side down or wallow on the floor in a fetal position moaning in severe pain. Where do you go when you can’t escape that pain demon?
THE SPONTANEITY OF LOVE
“Love suffereth long, and is kind…” 1 Cor. xiii. 4-8
Love is not premeditated, it is spontaneous, i.e., it bursts up in extraordinary ways. There is nothing of mathematical certainty in Paul’s category of love. We cannot say – “Now I am going to think no evil; I am going to believe all things.” The characteristic of love is spontaneity. We do not set the statements of Jesus in front of us as a standard; but when His Spirit is having His way with us, we live according to His standard without knowing it, and on looking back we are amazed at the disinterestedness of a particular emotion, which is the evidence that the spontaneity of real love was there. In everything to do with the life of God in us, its nature is only discerned when it is past.
The springs of love are in God, not in us. It is absurd to look for the love of God in our hearts naturally, it is only there when it has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
If we try to prove to God how much we love Him, it is a sure sign that we do not love him. The evidence of our love for Him is the absolute spontaneity of our love, it comes naturally. In looking back we cannot tell why we did certain things, we did them according to the spontaneous nature of His love in us. The life of God manifests itself in this spontaneous way because the springs of love are in the Holy Ghost. (Romans v. 5.)

This reminds me of a discussion I had with my husband recently. I was thinking about my own baptism – it was actually a christening when I was a baby, so I have no memory of the event. I asked my husband how old he was when he was baptized ( in the Baptist church) and he said he was 12 yrs. old. I then asked him if he felt different or changed afterwards, and he replied, “ No, I felt that earlier when I answered the call and went down to the altar.” That reminded me of a time when I was 7 or 8 and i went to a week long Baptist vacation bible school with a friend. I remember “the call” part of the service and how it affected me – I went down 3 days in a row, until they told me to stop. I went joyfully, filled with expectation and love for God. I had forgotten that. I think we should all remind ourselves how we felt when we were younger, and innocently and joyfully went to meet our Lord, and try to live like that again.
Isn’t amazing how we remember our love for God…that first precious touch! 🤗
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. – 1 Peter 3:8
Within decades of Christ’s resurrection, believers underwent persecution and were driven from their homeland to places in Asia Minor. Peter wrote to them to encourage them to persevere in their faith, for God the Father “has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading” (1 Peter 1:3-4).
He also instructed them to conduct themselves accordingly, not reverting back to their previous lifestyles, but adhering to the conduct of holiness. They were to “put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander” and honor everyone (2:1, 17). This included those in positions of authority and servants toward their masters. and he provided specifics to husbands and wives.
Peter then lists godly virtues that believers were called to exemplify. Unity of mind, mentioned in today’s verse, does not necessarily mean uniformity, but rather working together with cooperation in the midst of adversity. Methods of accomplishing the same goal can be different. Believers need to have compassion for one another, share trials and joys, and stay attentive toward each other with open hearts. The love of God will be revealed to others by the believer’s efforts to comfort those in need.
A humble heart considers others ahead of self.
Take Peter’s words to heart as you observe the culture’s antagonism toward faith in Jesus. Be unified with other believers, and depend on prayer and God’s power to provide strength in times of need. Ask the Lord to help you stay true to His Word. Pray for this nation and its governing officials, who need godly guidance and the love of God in their hearts.

It’s going to be a while before things are back to normal again. Lot of structural damage; some stores and other businesses might be closed for a few months.
Not that I know of. I didn’t see the golf course; went to the Firelake grocery store the other day. No sign of damage in that part of town, so I’m assuming the golf course wasn’t hit.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Earlier I offered an essay on the bravery and example of an Austrian farmer named Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to serve in the Nazi Army in any way. For daring to oppose the Nazis and continuing his resistance against them he was beheaded.He is now on his way to canonization, i.e. sainthood, in the Catholic Church.

Of interest to me were the many reactions with religious sentiments.
On that basis, I wondered if any prayers existed concerning Blessed Franz Jägerstätter (“Blessed” is the stage before Sainthood), which could be used to focus our thoughts on steeling ourselves and securing a positive future for America.
In English I could find nothing.
An Austrian website in German, however, offered this salient prayer: (my translation).
Lord God,
You filled the Blessed Martyr and Father of a Family
Franz Jägerstätter
With great Love for You,
For his family,
And for all people.
In a time when politicians despised their own people,
In a time of Violence,
He came to a clear and incorruptible judgment:
You granted him the Grace to stand against Evil.
In union with Your Son,
And in faithfulness to his conscience,

It struck me, after writing the essay mentioned above, that if we really believe in the power of prayer, it is time to enlist the aid – however such things work – of Blessed Franz Jägerstätter, whose example of Courage is an example for us today, as we see Evil spreading across the land, and an example for all times.
Every day we see the Evil of The Deep State on the march, sometimes in small ways, sometimes in large ones, a bulldozer of Evil claiming to be for us, claiming to be Christian (take your pick of lying politicians), claiming to be “building” America, when in fact they are wrecking everything from our virtues, to our schools, to our economy, to our heritage, and on and on!
Resisting this bulldozer can be wearing, as much of it is psychological and spiritual: a simple prayer like the above may have more power in it than we can know.

This morning I was out back with the dog, enjoying my best life, when I was almost beaned by this turtle carapice falling 20 feet from a red cedar tree.

I had been listening to a strange sawing sound previously, but no-one was around. After matching the sound to the tree, there was a snap and then it rained sticks and turtle shell. The shell bounced and a squirrel who was heading down saw me and reversed course.
OK analysts….what was a squirrel doing with a turtle shell high in the trees? Sharpening his teeth? Was he waiting for me hoping to hit me? They do this to me with hickory nuts in the fall.

For him to be up the tree with it tells me he wanted it to himself. They usually aren’t meat eaters (if there was dead turtle still in the shell), so maybe for nesting, or some other scavenging of the shell for food purpose.

Very quickly I realized that the attitudes differ depending on which part of Russia the person came from. This reminded me Vietnam and the difference of attitudes in far left New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles and the heartland of the country. Far left protested, the heartland did not. . .
